Welding The 1932 Ford "DeLorean" Roadster Body Onto The New Floors!!

- In the last two episodes Matt has gotten the new floors and subrails together, and he cut out all of the remaining stock floor. Today Matt and the crew work on mating the two pieces together. First Matt uses his spot blaster to sand blast the spots on the car that he will be welding to the floors. Once the metal is all clean it's time to carefully line up the two pieces and set the body onto the floors. Now that the body is set down, Matt gets to work welding the A and B pillars into place, replacing the lower portions with tubing as needed. After locking those in, Matt installs a gas tank to verify the rear of the body is at the correct height. Now that the body is welded on to the subrails, Matt can now work on the rust repair that is needed on the body and get the front and rear suspension ready to roll under the frame!

Boy she is rough Matt. Look forward to seeing you turn this around and saving a classic.
Back when this was found, I wonder how many would have thought this Roadster was salvageable? Nice going Matt.
Fantastic progress Matt! It looked good for being so rusty, so can't wait to see it finished!
That was an amazing video!! The assembly is so detailed that I understand better than ever. Thank you, Matt!
Nice job, fellas. That localised blaster looks pretty handy. I was surprised at how rough the body is around the bottom edge. You have a good foundation to build on though so I look forward to see this one progressing. All the best, Mart in England.
Man, that’s rougher than I thought, good work getting it back in one piece
Just proves, nothing is beyond salvageable, with determination, hard dirty work..if you want it bad enough, it's doable...great work gang.....Rob. uk
Matt, I have to congratulate you for your efforts to save America classics, alot of guys are on utube doing the same thing but I don't think anyone can keep up with the number of cars you save, we love the video's but I especially appreciate the time and effort you put into keeping the greats alive, keep up the great work and we'll keep watching
DD Speed shop, DD Speed shop, DD Speed.
Thanks for watching!
I thought it was in better shape than that when you originally pulled it out of Detroit. She's gonna look great when you're done!
Glad to see Moon again I love how you guys use all metal it's going to be great time to work a little on Mike's car
Thanks Matt, always educational and entertaining.
Central California watching
Love seeing this old treasure come back to life!!
that is a huge amount of work, but luckily the roadster is in the right hands. Awesome work Matt
Thanks Sven!
Excellent Video. Thank you for sharing.
Looks like all the commenters above have been shortlisted for a prize! I'm stayin' offa that list!
The prize is annoyance and heartburn!
Every step makes that roadster a little better, Matt! Keep plugging away!
I had no idea that there was that much “Swiss cheese” in the lower body in that car. I know that you will be fabricating most of the replacement panels rather than buying them adding to the enjoyment of watching this build. It is very satisfying watching your metal craftsmanship give new life to the old classic Fords. Great job on the floor.
Prior to welding in the floors seems like the perfect time to get rid of the remaining tar and feathers and strip much of the rust away; I am sure you have a reason for not stripping the whole body.
I love the island choice of the videographer/shop muscle, well done!
I am sure this is going to be a nice looking hot rod again. This is going to be a fun winter of watching the progress.
Great work! Reminds me of my crusty one. Mine was stored in a junk pile on a farm upside-down. I had repairs to do on the top and bottom. Crusty paint for the win!!!😁
Very Nice work Matt you are bringing it out of the grave !!
It's starting to look good !
How long ago was it that this car had a waterfall running through the middle of it?
Watching those videos, I thought it was damn near hopeless to think that it would ever get to this point, much less a finished, driving hot rod.
I am totally invested in seeing the Delorian come back from the grave.
Thanks guys!
Thanks Jerry! We’re starting to gain on this one!
After watching the Sweet Heart Roadster videos, I know this one will be a piece if cake for Matt.
Hard core Matt 😂 no fear 😎 I have to get one of those blasters.
Nice to see someone saving these old cars 🇺🇸💯
Perfict timing for me , I'm doing the same on my 1955 Willys CJ5! Thanks Matt. (wash your Face)
You guys are inspirational. Can't wait to get back to the shop. 🤘😎
Hi Matt. When repairing the lower parts of a deuce body on a good original frame, I have found it helpful to bolt down the firewall to locate the cowl and to bolt on the rear fenders and frame horn covers to locate the rear half, since they attach to both the body and the frame. Cheers.
Yep that is definitely helpful!
A true craftsman at work, thanks for the video
Who didn’t think it was salvageable? It’s a 32 roadster, people have built cars from less. It’s going to be awesome!
Morning Matt, wow, you are moving right along!!
Do you have some sort of air dryer or air/water separator due to your air compressor running non-stop to keep up with the sand blaster....you are fortunate you have help...be safe!!
God Bless!!!
That is a big job..you guys made it seem light weight..great job
That is really rusty you got a bunch of work to fix that you are just the man to fix it.
Hey guys, looking good...Ralph
Unfreakin believable. Big thumbs up.
I saw a model A 5-window sitting on deuce rails today. It was nice, but nowhere near as nice as I'd have thought after seeing the work y'all do! But maybe I'm jaded, I watched the Sweet T build..
Great attention to detail!!!👍🏼
Great video always love to see how they come together been watching for awhile now. 😀 ty Steve
Yikes! I can't believe how toasty that body is. Is Brookville on speed dial?
Great progress!
Another GREAT vid!!!!! 👍🙂🍻
Coming along very Nice Matt
Matt, any issues welding through the epoxy primer? Looks like it worked out pretty well. Really diggin' the projects sir!
great work Matt
Awesome
Looking truly awesome!
A question: I noticed you are welding thru the coat of the red paint; is it a red weld through primer?
Awesome. 👍
Great music !
what is that music ? I love it.
Weld up a rotisserie. You build cars that have the same dimensions. Thank you.
Love your videos, Matt... kind of a roadmap for the average Joe. Do you sell any of these projects once they run and drive?
We do occasionally sell cars; but this one is a keeper for me.
In this video you used a mig welder. In most of your videos you use a tig welder. What was the advantage in the repair of this car?
Can’t really weld through primer with a tig and easier to get into the hard to reach areas with a mig.
Do you plan on painting it the way Jack had it?
It had weathered black paint when Jack had it.. was already a used and abused hot rod..
I appreciate your work but is it worth the hassle brookvilke original works well
I’ll take every rusty original 32 roadster over a repro body any day. Not everyone gets it.. but original beats repro every time for me.
Looking Good.

Gee, it would be nice if you had a frame table. Oh...
I don’t need a frame table here… the bottom of the car is bolted to the frame..
how much of this rust do you think was already there when it was hot-rodded the first Time? Seems like a lot of rust for a survivor rod that was stored inside?
this was the car that was on top of your antique lift?
This car was stored in a building with a giant hole in the roof.. might as well have been outside. Poor storage sadly caused this damage
@@IronTrapGarage something to think about when choosing storage-I've seen cars stored in dirt floor "dry" building come out worse than when they went in
0:35 What type of medium are you using to blast the metal?
Is that gun from Harbor Freight? If so. did you do the modification to the hopper and shut off valve?
I believe he still works for Eastwood tools
@@jcerullo5015 No he doesn't but he gets stuff from them. He use to do metal fab video's for them.
Speed Blaster from Eastwood. No modifications needed. Used aluminum Oxide blasting media. Usually steal it out of my blast cabinet! Link here: www.eastwood.com/speed-blast-gravity-feed-blaster.html
Rusted junk to rare jewel, using time and talent compression !
Matt is the red rust encapsulator weld thru?
Sure is.
@@IronTrapGarage i had no clue. I always used the black and just sanded where the welds were gonna be. Mind blown
For what seemed to be a half decent car it has no bottom!! I wish you luck trying to reinvent a Ford,
