  • I didn't like the locking pin that came with my Grizzly G0838 wood lathe, and my friend John has a similar machine with the same pin that he dislikes. So I made new ones that work better.

Guy, this little tool is being used many times during the day. Needless to say, I really like it. Thanks! John

I saw Nova written on the chuck in your thumbnail so I took a look at the video as I am a new woodturner. Great job on the spindle locking tool. I'm sure that will make things easier for you and your friend. All the best from NZ.

Thanks. As a new woodturner you might enjoy seeing some of my wood turning videos, here's my playlist:

Not sure if it will help because these motors are all the same size with different gear ratios in the box. But:
      Motor diam. 30mm X 57mm long
      Gear box: 58 X 40 X 30mm

This is an interesting project. You should design a spindle lock for your mini metal lathe and the mini mill.

Thanks. Yes, I did do a spindle lock for my HF mini mill: czcams.com/video/-xFohCGA_l8/video.html
My mini lathe does not have a provision for a spindle lock and I don't really need it there.

@@GuyMarsdenMakesStuff oh yes now I remember watching that video I did something similar on my LMS3990. I guess I was thinking of something of a more elaborate design.

Maybe a minor process order changes, make the steel rod , trim it to just clean up but not to size. flip it around, cut hole for bolt, tap it. the brass part is same as what you did, attach the steel to brass handle, then finally clean up steel to size and add magnet so its all nicely coaxial. though now that I think about it, would cutting it that way make it stay on or unscrew? HMM

Oh yes, it's easy to see this kind of thing in hindsight. But I just tend to fumble through things. If this was a high(er) precision item, I would definitely have planned out the order of operations more carefully. And yes, it would have screwed on tighter.

@@GuyMarsdenMakesStuff Yeah, not too important on this one,. :D
