  • There's an island way out in the sea
Where babies grow up on the trees
And it's, oh, so much fun, to swing up in the sun
You have to watch out if you sneeze

Oh and she would just start singing “This is the day they give babies away with a half a pound of Tea”🤣

Great song ... popularized when covered by Paul Kantner on the debut Jefferson Starship album in 1970.

It’s funny I am 49 now and my mom took me to a concert at the EMU in Eugene at about 7 years old. I turned to my mom and said everyone would want a baby. Many years later I saw Rosalie at the Kate Wolf festival and wanted to tell her that story.

Long time favorite LP still in my collection somewhere.... The "free with tea" song is one my own mother sang frequently, including when I was much older. She may have said "I'd rock you to sleep if I could find a big enough rock." Great to find this here where I can share it with far-away friends... But a question just came to me -- Is that Lyn Hardy singing harmony, or Rosalie over-dubbed, or both?

Too funny- my Mum used to sing this song but not the Chorus - in a different tune - I was curious what the whole song was-I’m now 70 and the song will just come to Me in my thoughts so I know she’s watching over Me. I’ve never heard anyone else sing it. 🙏💜😇

I once saw her perform with Utah Philips....both legends.

Thanks so much for uploading this. It's probably been 40 years since I've heard it.

My wife and I used to sing this to our kids when they were little. They're between 11 and 18 now.

Isn’t funny how someone creates something and it sits with people the rest of their lives, like the memory of a loved family member or place you lived. I loved that song when I was but a young spud and here I am, as old now as Rosalie probably was then, maybe older.
The song is as great now as the first time I heard it.
