Yumemi cheats more than Shikieiki does, but regardless has one of the best final boss themes in the series.

In Japan, the cross just doesn't have the religious gravitas that it does in the west. The fact that she uses crosses is actually more style than substance.

8 years later, Sumireko came second for a Touhou shooter final boss that is a human.

Does anybody remember that yumemi and chiyuri went back to gensokyo?

Having accepted the sins of her past, and owning up to the mistakes she made, Yumemi’s heart has grown alot lighter. No longer does she seek approval and validation. No longer does she wish for someone to recognize her genius. For she has friends that are willing to help her fulfill her dreams. She has a home, a family. Something far more valuable than validation or approval. The shackles that once held her back have been loosed, and her spirit is now free. Free to fly to the stars, uniting science, religion, and magic under one banner.
Shine on Yumemi. Your light will be a guiding beacon for those who follow your teachings.

Yumemi's from a time period where all physics and forces are described perfectly by the "Unified World Theory". She, however, being a professor at age 16, objected and presented a modified theory that also added the idea of magic. However, this was, of course, rejected, and Okazaki was kicked out. She then traveled to Gensokyou to gather more data for her theory and to get revenge.

This could be a reference to how magic was rejected by the Church, and later, assimilated. The use of these symbols in the Strawberry Cross may be Yumemi's subtle opinion of her theory of magic, and her goal to unify science, magic, and religion.

I am beyond explanation by science. Not even Yumemi, Gensokyo’s brightest mind, can explain me.

Though gone forever to the rest of the alternative Gensokyos, mine still has Yumemi, and her mind is one of our most valuable weapons. Just don’t piss her off.

The cross and hexagram hold a bit of double meaning. The Cross and Hexagram are both religious symbols and resemble the Star of David and Cross. This could mean that Yumemi is implying the existence of God and that his powers cannot be covered by a simple "Unified Theory".
Both the Cross and the hexagram, however, are used in what Christians would call unholy. The Cross was originally a Pagan item of worship. The Hexagram with the circle is used in witchcraft.

@Bowserian might be due to in her world, she was trying to prove that magic exists... i believe that the people didn't believe her so she searched for magic herself and ended up in gensokyo. although this is all coming from what i think i read..
