finally! a remaster that actually sounds like the original reincarnation.
If you load up a new Touhou game and Marisa isn't playable, chances are Mima's back. Other than that, I wouldn't get your hopes up unless the new title is a Phantasmagoria game.

This is the first Reincarnation remix that actually sounds GOOD.
What I love about this mix is that it wouldn't be out of place in a modern touhou game

This is just an absolutely awesome remastering.
Words fail to express how awesome this version of Reincarnation is.
ZUN's remastering was pretty awesome, but it was more dramatic - like it should be used for a cutscene. THIS is Mima's boss fight!

@AlchemyFan101 As stated before: Zun likes to troll occasionally out of boredom - getting everyone's hopes up for one thing (teasing about Mima returning - then doing something else entirely, getting everyone to love Sakuya as a playable character and then removing it, Making Yuyuko a stage 1 boss, Giving Byakuran a spell card with Shinki's attack pattern while in Makai, and a few other things here and there.). But he's still a good person at what he does in making games we all love.
We need a version of this with only Touhou instruments.

Amusement Makers are still around and still most likely own Mima.

ZUN did music for one of the Seihou games, and Touhou characters have shown up in Seihou games before, so he probably developed them on his own, with them helping with funding or something.

Even then he was a one man army? I could only solidly find that he developed them with Amusement makers, and the touhou wiki doesn't provide credits (or im stupidly blind.) so couldn't cross reference. Sorry if i provided mistaken info.
Only theory i can go with with that info, is they came up with the characters, and im not a fan of wild guessing so consider that bonk.

I will admit that Zun did make the game himself, but he did it as a member of Amusment Makers. They do seem to have copyrighted some of their games in the last couple years at least as well as the name of their group.
Weither or not they have the rights to Toujou characters like Mima is not something I have been able to determine.
Still, I will keep hopeing that I am wrong and she will return in TD or another game.

There were 4 Whole number games and 1 half game from TH5 and TH9, counting the latter, the most recent PC-98 Reintroduction(Yuka). The game you're on about is 13.5.

I fell like amusement makers doesn't realise that EVERYONE actually thinks mima rightfully belongs to ZUN, and why shouldn't they? ZUN is behind every single touhou game, therefore mima as well.
I really wish they'd make more remixes of the ORIGINAL Reincarnation like this one. Yeah, the other version ZUN made is great and all...but I like the original better. Mainly because of the part after the first...uh...what do you call it? I dunno, but I like how it gets more powerful. The remixed Reincarnation isn't like that...

He got those much later. He worked with Amusement makers during touhou 1-5 as the composer for the music and developer (I believe thats so, its smart to assume as that is where he shines most), and then split off to continue working on the games without AM (They constantly change what they are doing with the group) under the name Shanghai Alice. He got to keep Reimu and Marisa for EoSD (2002), Alice for PCB (2002-2003) and Yuka for PoFW (2005).
i wish Mima comes in the next Touhou game... but it's a f*cking fighting game v.v

Haven't you guys herd? Out of all PC-98 characters, ZUN only managed to retain the rights for four of them; Reimu, Marisa, Alice, and Yuuka. Apparently he didn't claim the copyrights until later on, by which point it proved to be more difficult to prove that the rest of the cast were his creations.
This resulted in him creating Yukari, who then took the position he'd otherwise given to Yuuka. For you see, it was only after PCB that he managed to confirm that Yuuka was - in fact - his creation. This is interesting, given how Alice had to problem to make an appearance in the said game, and even refer her earlier encounters with the heroines.
i'm sorry but this story is absolute horseshit. zun holds the absolute copyright over pc-98 touhou games, including the characters. after all, otherwise he wouldn't be able to add mima to the cover of akyu's untouched score vol 4 (en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/File:AUSv4Mima.png)
Slashed Out I said more difficult, not impossible. The said album was released two years after PoFV, so for all we know, he might've gotten rights back to Mima, or - at the very least - her design.
This whole theory would lead to two important question, though:
- why was any of that difficult to prove in the first place?
- why hasn't he used Mima elsewhere for the last decade?
I believe the first answer lies around Japanese copyright laws of the time, as well as context in which the original Touhou games were released in.
As for the latter, Marisa has changed as a character from the PC-98 era. I can't imagine the current Marisa having anyone she would refer, and treat as her master (but maybe that's just me).
if zun created pc-98 games, then why wouldn't he have copyright on them? amusement makers are just a simple student group that also distributed some games later on. they did the same with 2hu 1-5 on a cd (the touhou project cd as it was called) but in 2002 zun stopped the distibution of it - because he owns the copyrights on all of it

Although, I must ask; does Touhou series really have such a tight plotline, that missing a certain character/-s appearance would cause a hazzle? Isn't there already inconsistence between the first five games, and the rest?
touhou series didn't have much in terms of plotline until the manga stuff started coming out. that said, a lot of characters appeared a lot in the first 5 games (such as mima - she debuted all the way in the first game, was only absent from the 4th game, and was marisa's master) that it would make some sense to at least let them appear as background character (or in some manga!). we likely won't see a pc-98 character reappear in a main series game because zun likes to introduce new characters and plots (unless it's midboss or first stage - think yuyuko in first stage of td)
will we see something more about pc-98 characters? well zun does know that there's some interest in the older games, so it's always possible. he also could just add some references (like how byakuren stole a spell card from shinki in ufo)
