    Thank you for all these videos! I bought a house that I think they drywalled drunk, every seam and corner is a new nightmare, drywall hung horizontal and vertical with angles and ceilings all done bad and then some weird minimal texture to boot! After 3 renovations I thought I could handle it, but drywall is a true science and an art. You're an amazing teacher and I hope you're feeling well these days!

    As a diy, I wish they offered All Purpose or Plus 3 in powder form. Buying a bucket or box, I feel I am just throwing money away as I would never use that much on my jobs and feel it will be too dry a year later when I have a need to use it again. Powder that you can mix as needed on the other hand I feel will keep longer assuming it is not stored in a humid location.

    • @ThatKiltedGuyDIY
      @ThatKiltedGuyDIY  Před 8 měsíci +1

      I used to think that until I tested my powdered all purpose in a CZcams video against other forms and it stuck poorly. I contacted USG and they said it actually only has a shelflife of six months once you open it and mine was about a year old.

    Imo...midweight(purple lid) is the best mud to use period!!! Taping, bedding, skimming, bead sticking and coating. Green lid is great for Taping and that's it!! If you use for anything else it shrinks too much and you'll be spotting screws 4, 5,6, times, a waste of time. Blue lid shouldn't be used for Taping or sticking bead because of it's lack of vinyls and won't adhere properly or at all. Purple purple purple 1 product on the job site please.

    I don't understand why when i finish a joint and its ready to paint you can see where i mudded by the slick cover. The painted walls over the drywall is orange peel and my joints are smooth. What can be done to make it all the same texture?

    I just used dap dry dex over the fixed screw pops and had alot of them. I put the spackle in a mud pan, long story shirt, it didnt spread to well. What did i do wrong? Should i used the blue bucket?

      Dry Dex feels like bubble gum to me. I recommend only using all purpose regular drywall joint compound

      @ThatKiltedGuyDIY I am assuming that's the green top. Isnt that hard to sand?

    • @ThatKiltedGuyDIY
      @ThatKiltedGuyDIY  Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@cpaul57 compared to +3 the differences minor but yes it’s harder to sand. I prefer to tell people to use all purpose or all purpose lightweight instead of the lid colors because it’s not always green and blue depending on the brand you buy. I will teach all of this stuff in depth in my courses at drywallacademy.com

    So I hear the regular all purpose for taping, then plus 3 lightweight for the rest. Does that mean you goop on the regular on then put your tape in then switch to lightweight to go over the tape? Also, I've seen some people suggest just use the lightweight but add glue to it?

    Just thought of a question. I have houses in Illinois and Florida. Working on my house in Illinois is easy because everything is smooth but in Florida everything is textured. I've tried knock down texturing and did ok but really could use a video on how to do different knock down textures. Any chance you could show us how it's done?

    Is everything water soluble except for the quick set or the fast set compound? If everything's water soluble except for the fast setting compound then everything else should be pretty easy to clean up right? But how do you clean tools that you're using with a fast set mud? You can't just clean them off in the shower or dump them in the toilet since they'll form hard clumps that can clog drains... So how do you handle that?

    • @ThatKiltedGuyDIY
      @ThatKiltedGuyDIY  Před rokem +1

      Scrape with a mud knife and scrub with a green scrubber sponge. Even hot mouth is slightly water soluble when it’s wet. It’s not easy though

      I’ve been in construction over 40 years and out of that I have over 35 years of just Drywall so I didn’t go to it, I’ve been in it most of my career. That’s why I’m so good at it. Plus I analyze and test everything to get the fastest and best quality I can.

    I have heard or read that 90min easysand mixes differently than 45 (not for the better). Any truth to this and is 45 better for this reason (unless you really needed the extra time)?

    • @ThatKiltedGuyDIY
      @ThatKiltedGuyDIY  Před 8 měsíci +1

      The main disadvantage to 90 minute is that the slower it sets up, the more it shrinks. Otherwise I can’t tell any difference

    I removed old popcorn off the ceiling and has a rough texture left with some old mud. I plan to smooth it out before texturing. I was thinking maybe 20 min mud with some wood glue mixed in it as my first coat, followed by plus3, instead of two coats of plus3. What do you think?

    • @richardjeun
      @richardjeun Před 9 měsíci

      @@ThatKiltedGuyDIY I want to use hot mud because I want to fill large holes, get it set quicker, and strong bond. Addition of wood glue would make it stick better and cause less problems down the road; any wood or PVA glue gives good adhesion to old paint and repairs.
