    I always found the only LED light worth fitting on my defender was rear number plate light, changing anything else always resulted in LED failure due to poor quality, given the fact that these lights are silly money and replacement of these can be costly, I just love the old ones due to being simple to replace due to age😆

    Great video, I'm in the process of changing to led's from Bearmach. The relay that comes with it isn't a Wipac adjustable. Would I need to change to one? Thank you

    I’ve just installed new LED lights in my Defender. When the lights are turned on both low-beams work as advertised but my driver side hi-beam comes on as well. When I turn on the hi-beams the driver side hi-beam goes out and the passenger side hi-beam comes on. Any ideas on the the problem/solution could be?

    Hi,
    Thanks for a nice, clear video.
    But I have a question-- I've gone and installed a set of Wipac LEDs on my '86 110 and I've got the adjustable flasher relay as pictured here.
    Things aren't working all well out of the box-- my left indicators work fine, but the rights also flash the brake lights a little bit-- I understand that I may need ballast resistors. Did you have the lights that already had resistors built in? I have checked that mine do not have any resistors built in.
    Thanks for any insight!

      Ridwan Ahmed you have an earth issue with the lamps on the the side that are flashing together. Perhaps the earth to bodywork is loose or there are dirty contacts in either the lamp and or contacts. When the brake light is flashing it means the power from the indicator is trying to seek earth passage back to the battery the easiest way possible IE: through the brake light circuit.

      Thank you for the suggestion! Found the loose connection, and needed one 3ohm resistor on L and R indicator. Good to go now. Cheers!

    Great video as ever. I never noticed the spacer for the fusebox on any of my Land Rovers (85, 86 & 94), is it on all MY? Thanks

    • @trailerfitter2
      @trailerfitter2  Před 7 lety

      good question. If the spacers are not there the relays are crushed so it needs to be fitted.

    Great video series! All very clear and informative. Is the adjustment on the relay not for controlling trailer indicator warning? i.e fit all four LED indicators then adjust the relay so your trailer indicator dash warning light goes out, hence retain the functionality of letting you know trailer indicators are on?

    • @xCiRE007x
      @xCiRE007x Před 7 lety

      The adjustment on the Wipac relais is for the trailer light. I've installed all LED lamps on my '14 Defender and everything works perfect

    • @trailerfitter2
      @trailerfitter2  Před 7 lety

      Of course because you are changing the voltage demand when adding extra lights onto the relay. BUT the standard relay does not register the LED lamps because the demand for voltage is so low.

    I have fitted a set of these to my 02 Def 90.. all work great but the Trailer warning light stays on after starting, even without any lights on.... whereas before it only illuminated when I plugged a trailer socket in and used the indicators.. the relay made no difference at all when making adjustments using the adjuster knob, luckily it worked at the right rate out of the box.... and may I just say, changing the relay on my car involved removing the steering wheel, column covers and dash !!! screws every where.
    All bulbs were changed but the kit did not include a high level brake light for the rear door glass.. so it looks very dim compared to the others... are they available anywhere...

      Hi. I have just fitted LEDs and I have the same issue all the lights are working correctly but my trailer warining light is on CONSTANTLY. Where as before it only flashed when indicating...... is this a problem or just something that I can ignore ? I don’t tow at the moment but do plan on getting a tow bar fitted at some stage.

    Hi
    I have defender 90 2005
    Today I fit new Led head light .
    One small problem that in first swich(click 1) and Secound(click2) high beam on.
    I know some Landrover made some defenders with swich low light when you change for the Secound swich becomes brighter.
    Led read low and hight same.
    How we can solve the problem please?

    Random question but on some defender the turn signal is on the top and some other have them on the bottom (like this video). Which one is the correct one?

    I have a 2003 110 and it sounds like my flasher relay is behind the speedo, is that right?

    • @jackmartin9008
      @jackmartin9008 Před 6 lety +1

      Thanks to your comment I looked behind the speedo haha. All the videos iv looked say fuse box. But my 2004 defender 90 the indicator relay is also behind the Speedo.

    I really like the idea but it just feels a bit wrong. I wish someone would do a slow start LED to emulate a bulb. Instant on just reminds me of German cars who can only test there indicators occasionally when they are not required.

    And now your vehicle is ILLEGAL for UK road use and you've INVALIDATED YOUR INSURANCE.
    You're OK for off-road use, but would need to transport your Defender on a trailer, as it cannot be used on UK roads.
    It's a shame, because LEDs a better, but the UK regulations haven't caught up yet.

    • @lmatt1234
      @lmatt1234 Před 4 lety +1

      I think if they are 'e' marked they are legal for UK road use, also many new cars leave the factory with led lights these days.
      I may be wrong though, but that must make all new cars illegal too?

    • @gilbert7794
      @gilbert7794 Před rokem

      Wrong you cannot fit led bulbs in conventional headlights but you can upgrade the whole light to led

    • @rickbear7249
      @rickbear7249 Před rokem

      It's all to do with the focus point of the reflector. Simply inserting an LED bulb into the vehicle's standard reflector will produce an incorrectly focused beam; consequently, it's illegal. However, if you change the whole headlamp unit (LED bulb and LED reflector) then you're perfectly legal so long as the new headlamp unit has the appropriate type conformity markings.
      My original reply was 3 years ago when the UK regulations were somewhat different. So be careful to check posting dates when searching legality questions on the Internet. Enjoy your new LED headlamps 👍
