    Dude, one more thing to do if you really want to round the bases on this badass machine: go grab that Wacom pen. Open Settings, select System, and then Display. Scroll down to Orientation and select Lanscape (flipped). Carefully set the machine laying back on its lid, with the keyboard sticking up into the air. Make sure it’s a clean surface, maybe even put a cloth down to protect the surface of the lid. Could also brace the keyboard somehow. But then... do some drawing. I bet if you can get past the initial awkwardness, you’ll discover an amazing art, drafting, and design experience there. ;)

    Since the main factor, the AERO15X has over the XPS15 is the GPU, could you make a side by side comparison editing Cineform?
    Cineform is graphically accelerated so it takes advantage of the GPU for video encoding giving back the upper hand the AERO looses with the i7 instead of the i9.

I get my XPS 15 Wednesday, but what's crazy is that I sold my MacBook pro 15 for $2400 and was able to pick up the highest end i7 with 16 gb ram and 512 gb along with PC I'm gonna build with a i7 8700k with a 1070ti and it all only cost a little over what the MacBook cost me lol. Doing the plunge, just bought the 9570 4k 16gb ram 512SSD I7. Got it for 2199CAD. +tx. on microsoft store. Dell.ca would not match the price, they brought it down from 2750$ to 2549$ so they lost the sale. Hope its the right choice after all those confusing reviews. Since many talked about issues with it I took a protection plan for 2 yrs for 120$ I thought it was worth it in case it does crap out. I will let you know in a few months if I regretted my purchase or not. Had it not been on sale I would have went with the Zenbook pro 15 but at that price it was hard to pass and if there is a better deal on boxing day they will price match until Jan 31.

    hi mate, I had some free time, and I was playing with my Asus ZenBook Pro (16gb, 7700hq, 1050ti), and I downloaded the same clip from red and thougth of sharing my findings for comparison. directly with red footage, at full I got 319 dropped frames. at 1/2 resolution got 210 dropped frames; at 1/4 resolution I got zero dropped frames. but then things got interesting, after being transcoded to CineForm 10bit color, it played it back with zero dropped frames at full (to be honest, I got like zero dropped frames half the times, and about 2 or 3 dropped frames other times). To me it made sense as CineForm is GPU friendly, so offloads part of the burden to the GPU and the ZenBook Pro has also the 1050Ti. I noticed with CineForm RAM usages goes up, poor Zenbook pro suffers with its soldered 16Gb ram.

    Hows your killer wifi card? Mine has been an issue from the go and Dell had the nerve to tell me it's a software issue and I would have to pay them for support despite the laptop being 24 hours old. Also, any issues seeing network computers? They never show despite hours of troubleshooting... very frustrated with Dell over my 9570. Surface Book 2 works without issues on the network but I got the XPS for the 6 core power.

    • @TallyHoTech
      @TallyHoTech  Před 6 lety

      I had no issues. That's bullshit too. They should know some people have issue with it. Try the latest driver from Killer itself. Is it 5GHz or 2.4GHz? Try changing the channel in your wifi router. If those soloutiobs don't solve it. You can put an Intel wifi card in it or wait for a driver update to fix it which I'm sure will come out soon enough

    • @MrNofear72784
      @MrNofear72784 Před 6 lety +1

      It was late last night so I'm going to try again with a US support team member on the phone today. I tried both networks, still dropping every 20 seconds like clockwork. Updated the driver manually, network reset, no changes. I have a new Intel card but would like to be able to at least update windows to see if it stabilizes before I crack it open. It was a 2 hour ordeal just to get someone who understood the issue. Longtime happy Dell user but so far I'm not a happy guy. Seeing yours working is making me want to push through the issues. If they would send me a copy of 10 pro I would just start over. The last person I spoke with said network discovery is an issue they've seen a bit of but most users aren't using remote desktop connections so it's not a big deal. Granted that was the end of our conversation. Thanks for the response!

    I've had an internal battle for a while with this one vs Aero 15x. I'm a content creator first, but enjoy playing games on my spare time. In your opinion, which one should I go for? I need to edit raw 2.5k and 1080p Blackmagic multicam footage on the go when I shoot events (I edit in the car and/or plane.) Western Gents United Excellent! That's great advice. Thanks for the quick reply. I'm leaning towards the 1080p display since battery life is important for what I do, although the 4k screen is a really tempting feature. How's the upscaling from HD to 4k look?

      Well the 4k on this XPS 15 has great battery life. Better than the Aero 15X with FHD. If you need that killer 10 hours plus battery life though. The FHD is the way to go

    you thinking what I am thinking? it will be a useful comparison to do a head to head with your desktop 7900X. I will not rule out if the XPS wins on video rendering, given that it has an iGPU while the 7900X does not and we all know Premiere does not scale well beyond 6-8 cores, so it might not gain much from the additional two-four in your desktop.

    • @TallyHoTech
      @TallyHoTech  Před 6 lety

      Well champ the XPS 15 with hardware encoding is only 1 minute slower than my 7900X with a Titan X. WOW!

      wow! thanks, that is what I suspected. I think Adobe Premiere might have just killed half the market for the Enthusiast/Extreme line of CPUS. Sad about the premature demise of my i7-5820k. It will be interested in the AMD side, if the G desktop CPUs also benefit potentially crushing the noniGPU Ryzen CPUs.

    Do you think it makes more sense to edit photos on an external SSD? I am getting the XPS with 1TB M2 this week. I also have a 1 TB Samsung T5 external SSD and am still deciding on which drive I will be able to edit faster in lightroom.....Of course, using the internal drive is more comfortable. But if there is a speed gain in using the external one, I will really need to think about it. I just can't really believe that the External one will be faster, since it only has about 400mb/s read and write speed over usb....

      and don’t mind paying more
