Hi Abby & THANK YOU! U r really helping me become more confident in my job search - & I'll keep u informed! My 3 ?'s are: 1)how do u know ahead of time weather you're being offered a phone screen vs interview? 2) do most people pass the "phone stage"? and 3) in figuring out weather it's an interview/screen, would it b helpful to know the title (job) of the person who's going to conduct it?
Also (really quickly): I agree that follow-ups r key in this process, but what if u can't find who to f/u w/? (Who to address that VERY 1st f/u letter to, esp. so that it actually gets LOOKED @ by a person, & not diverted into an abyss?)
Thanks again for whatever u can do (& for ALL that u do!).😊 Nandi J.

Thank you for such a thoughtful question, and thank you for your patience with me getting back to you.
When it comes to clarification about a phone screen or interview, the recruiter may refer to it directly as such. If not, I’d look at the length of the interview. If it is less than 30 min, it’s probably a phone screen. If it’s 30 min or more, it’s probably a traditional interview.
No, not everyone passes the phone screen stage! This is essentially a weeding out stage to quickly determine fit based on qualifications and organizational culture fit.
Yes! It would be helpful to know this information! If you’re working with a recruiter, you can ask them if you’ll be meeting with them for the phone screen/interview or someone else. If they say someone else, you can ask for their name and position.
If you can’t find who to follow up with, contact the recruiter and ask them if they would be able to forward to the correct people!
Good luck on your job search!!
