  • @SteveCarmichael

    Question: At 11:51, design space shifted your card rectangle and text block over and down 1/4" on the mat preview. At 15:23, the written text block is not centered as a result. It's shifted 1/4" over and down too. Shouldn't you stick your card on the mat a 1/4" down and over from the upper left corner so it lines up with the rectangle placement on the mat preview? That would make the text block writing centered on right side of the actual card. Is there a way to make design space use the upper left corner as the origin, instead of shifting the origin 1/4" over and down automatically?

    One if the things I do is: 1. cut a piece of paper half the size of the full card. 2. use the pen to draw on that. 3 paste it into the card.
    My question for Tanner. I saw that you placed your completed card on the mat flush with the top edge and the left side edge. When I do that it will always cut scooched over to the right and a little down from the top edge. How did you accommodate for that when you positioned the writing on your card?

    • @jessvankoll
      @jessvankoll Před 3 lety +1

      It looks like it's a bit off-centre, so I don't think he did accomodate for that. The way to account for it is to just put your paper/card 0.25" from the top left corner (this is the distance that Cricut offsets your projects on the mats).

    • @lindaanderson2292
      @lindaanderson2292 Před 3 lety +4

      It's because the machine does not cut or draw in that first quarter inch. You have to compensate for that by placing your card on the mat a quarter inch to the right of the left margin line or placing the text box a quarter inch further to the right. I'm surprised he did not mention this in the video.

    How do you compensate for the fact that Cricut does not start at the absolute corner of the mat? It's always 1/4" to 3/8" away from the corner when it starts a cut or a drawn line. Are you just not concerned about being that precise?

    I tried this....and it worked, kind of.....I'm struggling w/ getting it centered. I've measured and it looks center on the canvas then when I go to make it...it is off to the right a bit. I'm trying to center a first name on the front/middle of a card. Can I 'lock' the position of the card, so I know where to put it on the mat? I'm going through too many cards trying to learn this. Thanks for any help

      Put it at the 1" position vertically and horizontally on the physical mat and on the screen.

      @@ale347baker I tried this and it is still off by 1/4 of an inch. Too much space on left and not enough on the right.

    Why not remove the rectangle before printing?

      I would assume that if you remove the rectangle, the exact position of the text gets lost.

      The text would then line up on the left instead of where you want it.

    I don't understand what you mean by no pen. There's a pen writing in there.

      No pen for the rectangle. Yes, he used a pen for the text... but no pen for the outline of the card. The rectangle card outline was only to make the Cricut write the text in the exact spot he had it on the canvas. And this hack is BRILLIANT!

    You have to pay to use the writing. You can't use you own system fonts. They make it so you have purchase their writing fonts. It is a rip off. They need to change that programing. Cricut is just another money hungry corp.
