  • Pang Lhabsol, Sikkim’s most important indigenous celebration, consists of a series of rituals and monastic dances held in honour of Sikkim’s chief mountain deity, Khangchendzonga, and all the land’s guardian deities. Considered the true custodian of the land, its people and resources, Khangchendzonga is also revered as the defender of the Buddha Dharma and the land’s peace and prosperity.
For over three centuries, the monks of Pemayangtse and other monasteries in Sikkim have celebrated Pang Lhabsol at the end of the monsoon; the 15th day of the 7th lunar month marks the final day of the Pang Lhabsol celebrations.

This was filmed over 10 years ago at Pemayangtse monastery. Pang Lhabsol is here performed by the Pemayangtse Lamas who have been performing Pang Lhabsol since the time these ritual dances were first choreographed by the Third Chogyal Chagdor Namgyal in the early 1700s. They were first performed at Pemayangtse just above the Palace of Rabtentse, and later, wherever the Chogyals moved east of the Teesta following the 1788 occupation of West Sikkim by the Gorkhas: Kabi, Tumlong and eventually, and until recently, at Gangtok's Tsuglakhang.

Doug Ewen I love watching these films but why '''do these people just get out of bed sit at there chapel ,etc etc,I know work gets done in there fields etc but when you see the power of religion 'ahh man, you know there ornamental effigys ,robes' or when they spin those things ''etc but also you get maybe tourists mesmerized over things to maybe ward off evil spirits, I just wonder if we all lived like that nothing would be made or produced'' don't get me wrong these are lovely people'but you can see it in these young desperate novices ''brainwashed looking as though ''what am I doing and look absolutely lost' plus the human way of reproducing 'the human sexual body, how do they control there natural needs ,is prostitution there''male and female

If Buddhists believe that animals have a soul, then why do they eat meat?

Being a buddhist isnt a birth right it's just a way of life u can either chose to or not to chose to consume meat. It doesnt have to do with a religious identity moreover buddhism isnt a religion its practise and way of life. So either we can chose to be a Buddhist or not . 🙏
