Quick and Easy Hot Glue and Resin Geode

  • Create a quick and easy geode, using hot glue, resin, stones and acrylic gems. I have seen many people ask how they can create a geode and how to stop the resin lines from blending into each other. This video was an experiment to see if hot glue would help solve this problem and as you can see from the results, it worked quite well.
    To recreate this hot glue and resin geode you will need:
    • Resin: Standard UV Resin from U-Resin: bit.ly/StandardUVResin
    • Hot Glue Gun and glue: amzn.to/2TclwBi
    • Glitter, any inexpensive glitter, fine glitter is best: amzn.to/2TLdt3E
    • Board to resin on, I used a Kmart wooden placemat
    • Paint to mark out the colours on the board (optional)
    • Plastic Cups: amzn.to/2CqTQTs.
    • Wood stirrers:amzn.to/2Y5HklL.
    • India Ink: amzn.to/2TiyYDy - US | amzn.to/2Stcn8R - UK | amzn.to/2JIzY1c - AU
    • Acrylic Diamonds: bit.ly/acrylicdiamonds - Alternative Product: amzn.to/2Y7pVJi - US | amzn.to/2XWbdUt - UK
    Books
    The Essential Beginner’s Guide to Resin Art Techniques
    eBook version: bit.ly/resinguide

    I took a resin course last year and the art teacher posted me my art with all the dirt of the mess of the resin paint behind.. believe it or not.. now this is a nice tip on how to clean the back of your board. Tks for sharing your knowledge. I love this one so much

    I've watched many resin geode videos. This seemed the easiest and I love the way it turned out. I've seen others use silicone instead of hot glue.

    • @SueFindlay
      @SueFindlay  Před 5 lety +1

      This idea was to give a solution to avoid the colours running into each other. Resin doesn’t stick to silicone, so is good to use to create freeform shapes.

    Thank you for the resin hack. I never have enough patience to let it thicken so my colours won't muddle together. Brilliant idea. Subbed x

    This is really interesting. Glad I found your video. I watched a video where someone had used this epoxy material for creating the lines. Can't recall what it is called but it is like a rubber that dries hard. Instead of using the epoxy material I thought I would try using the glue gun just like you do. I find it is the best method for making geodes. :)

    • @SueFindlay
      @SueFindlay  Před 5 lety

      I am delighted that this video has given you some inspiration to get creative. I would not recommend using a stretched canvas, as the weight of the resin and stones will cause it to sag in the middle. I suggest using a board, it can be a wooden place mat, just like in the video.

    The demonstration was informative & terrific! I’m definitely going to give it a try. Thinking on a larger scale... since the glue creates partitions, do you think the project could be done in sections over a period of time?

    ever considered implementing EL wires and fiber optics? I love color changing effects but since EL wires are of solid colors I came up with this idea. Pull black heat shrink tubing over el wires alternatively. Let's say 12" over red, then no tubing, then 12" over blue, ETC. Then twist EL wires and glue them together. Now when EL wires are hooked up to separate controllers in the slow on of mode what will happen that different colors will show up in areas where the tubing is present and a mix of colors will show in areas without any tubes.
    I wonder if I made myself clear. It is clear in my head but probably confusing for others :-)

      Lol, I think I understand what you are saying. I haven’t incorporated any lights in resin yet, although, I have toyed with the idea. 😉

    I am so new at this that my first Geode is still being developed in my head. I loved the information you shared in this video, very informative. I am wondering can shared shell pieces be used in resin? I have some very beautiful ones I was thinking of incorporating into a piece, they are very iridescent and soft pastel colors that would work with the color pallet I am thinking of using.

      I don't see why not. You can use all kinds of items in resin, your only limitation is your imagination. The absolutely best way to find out, is to give it a go and experiment. Good luck xx
