There are so many churches in England, virtually every village here in England would have a medieval church, often heavily restored in the Victorian period or even replaced. Do make sure to take a look at some, many are open throughout the day.
(There’s a couple of churches on my CZcams channel if you want to take a look!)
A few with bits of Roman stonework in their walls.

Shame you didn’t visit the Ship of the Fens, Ely Cathedral with its unique Octagon central tower. How it was built wasn’t discovered until the 1970’s.

Churches,..are everywhere in Uk,..some as many as six in each town and less in villages,...people were certainly very religious in the past,.it was their life...now turning churches into dwellings.

I visited Westminster Abbey once but never seen York Minster, but it look better than Westminster, Wonder why it is not used by the royals.
Because Westminster Abbey is in the capital London. York is 200 miles to the North in Yorkshire.

Westminster Abbey is a 'Royal Peculiar' ie: it does not fall under the authority of a bishop or indeed of an archbishop.
Westminster Abbey is subject directly to the reigning monarch.
Its also the church in the movie, The Eagle has landed with Micheal Caine.

I went into an old London church for Easter service expecting a typical proper Easter service. They were not dressed in their Sunday best. I didn’t like the service. It was nothing what I expected. Sit on the floor with pillows, a live band, and hug your neighbors. The people danced in a trance like it was a hippie concert.
