Tennessee. Four seasons, mild winters. No shoveling. Can hang an American flag without fear of having your house targeted.
I live in southwest Virginia on the Smithmountain lake. We have low humidity, low prices, beautiful changing of the seasons, very little snow. Low taxes low insurance, friendly people and a wonderful community. The beaches are about 4 to 6 hours away and are absolutely gorgeous! It may seem like they’re far away but it’s a wonderful vacation. We are very diverse. Love it here! Florida is now to hot, to humid, to expensive, and a lot of crazy laws. I wouldn’t live anywhere else!

Virginia is also expensive, I have family in Alexandria, but it just varies of part of the state you live in because Florida may have expensive areas but also affordable ones too just like virginia, plus I love Humidity, but I get it many dont

I left San Diego three years ago when I retired. Was there 30 years but became too expensive, too much homelessness, too much crime. Weather is perfect

Not a beach person, and not a golf person., but happy to be here now in Florida. One thing to monitor is home/auto insurance. If they keep climbing, cancelling insurance is going to be a serious option.
I tried retiring in Florida but it didn’t work out.
I bought a house in Fort Walton Beach.
The Panhandle was just too weird for me and it was more like Alabama and zero Florida.
Maybe if I would’ve moved to Tampa/Orlando/Miami, the experience would’ve been much better.
Now I live in Tokyo Japan and never been happier.
Tampa is a great city. Pretty much everything. Although starting to get pricey and traffic sucks.

I have Family in Tampa/Orlando/Miami, so I visited a few times during my 18 months in Florida, but nobody ever drove up to FWB to visit me

The panhandle is Floridabama. I always tell people to do their research first! Florida has many different areas/cultures to be around.
Sacramento CA. It’s north enough to be away from the vapidity of Southern California, and south enough to be away from the perpetual rain of the PNW.
There’s more to Florida than the beaches and theme parks. There’s a lot of beautiful forests, rivers, lakes, springs, and other natural wonders. A lot of beautiful places for camping and RVing.
Also lots of bugs, creepy crawlies, and stifling daytime heat.
And humidity! I hate high humidity.
I bought a place in Naples years ago and love it here. There are downsides for sure: cost of insurance, getting too crowded in some areas. Lack of ice/snow means few potholes on the major roads. They enforce the law and put criminals in prison here. I like hiking, fishing, boating, swimming, the beach, and enjoying my Second Amendment right. Florida is full of that. I don't like cold, so SW Florida is the place to be. If you are also a musician as I am, you can make a good deal of money during the season. It's a nice side gig. Oh...that median home price goes out the window if you want to live near the Gulf or Atlantic in most areas..................to answer your question, if not Florida, probably South Carolina.

Florida is the 7th state I've lived in. I've been happiest here and I've been here 14 years now. I cannot think of another state I'd want to live in at this point. I've lived in MI, KY, HI, CA, TX, and AL before here, I'm staying here. I could never take another Michigan winter, I don't want to be old and cold up there and I hate snow. Snow is illegal here, we passed a law.
Born and raised in Florida, lived here my whole life. I will retire in Maine. Too hot and too crowded in Florida.
Former Manatee County resident for 3 years. Lived there back in the 1980's. The Florida Summers are just too humid and hot. It makes people grumpy.Winter and Spring are very nice. I can't imagine what Florida is like these days. So crowded. My friend lived on a sailboat. Lived a few blocks from the beach. That's the life in Florida.

@@rodgillette8066 Central and south Florida doesn’t have the actual or perceived four seasons like you'd find in so many of the other states across the country. I live just south of the Tampa Bay area. We only get spring and summer like weather here for the most part, year round. Summer weather seems to last forever here. I wish it was only 3 months of the year. Well I say that but that’s not entirely true. I’m a HVAC contractor so the hot weather is good for business. Last year we had temperatures in the mid to upper 80’s up into the 3rd week of November. 6 months of winter in the great white north. 5 to 6 months of summer in Florida if it’s compared to the very mild summers you get in some of the northern most states.

Actually you can live pretty cheap on the big island. My son has a friend that built a few small buildings on property he has there. The guest room is a small separate building and the same for the shower. He has solar and rain collection.
You want to live in the middle of nowhere? Where a long supply chain is necessary to get things to you? That’s a hard pass for me. I don’t even want to fly to Hawaii. The Hawaiians can keep it.

Love it here in California despite expensive houses and people are leaving for cheaper states. I enjoy beaches and mountains here.
Nobody disputes that CA has spectacular natural beauty from beaches to mountains but droves of people are leaving because of the cost of living, decline of the cities, and the far left politics.
You can't go wrong with California if the money isn't an issue.
For the past 2 decades California has got Lotsa Asian Immigrants 🌏 From Vietnamese to Pakistanis and Japanese to Bangladeshis 🇨🇳🇹🇼

If money was no object, I’d move to Henderson, NV. Close enough to Vegas to enjoy and far enough to not have their problems. Lived in Florida 70 years and my only regret is the massive growth. You can get around but it’s going to take time. I-4 is a nightmare especially through Orlando and we remain about twenty years behind in keeping up with road needs. Another good thing about my area here in Pinellas county is a great VA facility at Bay Pines.

Henderson is great. I live in Vegas, and while we used to tease Henderson people about living in Hendertucky or Hooterville, it has changed quite a bit and is considered very safe. Plus, Nellis Air Force base is here so there is a VA hospital and many clinics.
@@sam6235Nellis is clear on the other side of the Vegas Metro are. Henderson is SE and Nellis is up in North Las Vegas. Traffic can be a nightmare especially going through areas you need to get to either side.

My late uncle who was a NYPD officer retired to Florida. Some of his friends from the force also retired to Florida. They spent their days playing golf. I think retiring in Florida is a mandatory NYC thing.
If money was no object. A nice luxury suv. And travel the US staying in hotels and resorts, seeing all the national parks, major cities and travel destinations.

We just moved to Florida. Besides the heat/humidity we love it here! A lot of people complain about how expensive everything is and I just have to remember we came from California. The taxed to death state. So it's cheap here. If money was no problem I would probably want to live in New England area. Idk where but I love the cold.

I am a retiree in NC and our SSR is not taxed here. I was born here and have lived here most of my life. I moved to Portland, OR in June right after Mt. St. Helens erupted (5/18/1980) with my then husband because his family lived there. Lived there for several years and mostly enjoyed it but could not tolerate the constant rain during fall and winter. Left my then husband who would not work and moved back to NC and have been here ever since. At least here we do get four seasons, are rarely hit hard by hurricanes (one exception being Hugo 9/22/1989), we see the occasional tornado but rarely causing loss of life, so all in all its not too bad.
If money and closeness to family was not an issue Florida would be ok with Arizona being second, but I guess I'll just stay where I am. I planned for my retirement and am out of debt. I have a small nest egg and a pretty good pension along with my SSR so even with the crazy economy being what it is we are still doing pretty good.
We opted to retire in New Hampshire three years ago due to global warming trends (we like cooler weather vs hot and humid as hell weather). Cost of living is about the same as Florida.

@@johnscott2746 No income taxes or sales taxes. BUT, property taxes can be high depending on your location. We are taxed $13,000 a year for our 3000 sqft home. We bought it for $429k three years ago.
Although I've zero desire to live in Florida (and one visit was sufficient) it was an entertaining and fact-filled video!

Money no object, I m moving there, Summerlin, Nevada. No winter snow, 300 days sun, less traffic, less violent crime, less crowded, obviously more affordable than NY. I can deal with hot summers. Can't wait.
Florida has 2 seasons: Hot and hotter. It’s miserable except for about 90 days a year. Seriously…bad.
Florida has something for everyone. It is hot in the summer. Yes you have storms but the summer storms in the middle of the country are worst because they will kill you. Medical is a problem in Florida. Not because it does not have the doctors and talent that you need is that the population growth has grown so much that it has out stripped the amount of services currently provided.
Great bass fishing too. Such clunkers compared to largemouths back north.

I want to be a snowbird with a small bass boat. We will always spend summers in Alaska. We will buy a cheap mobile home in a senior park. I’ll pay the HOA just to have security and lawn maintenance when we are gone in the summer. We will be doing this next year.

I retired from the USAF 30 years ago to the Florida panhandle. I don't like big cities so I still think it's the best choice. Other places I would consider would be Fredericksburg, TX or Flagstaff, AZ.
With no money worries, I would retire in Benzie County MI and build a lakefront home near Sleeping Bear Dunes, I would spend January through March on Edisto Island in SC. Benzie county has only one stoplight and is a glorious place in the summer and fall and I need snow for Christmas.
Since you stipulated to set aside cost, San Francisco would be my choice. Not necessarily the city itself but close by. I've loved going and living there (for a summer). I think the weather is great, food scene unbelievable, traffic doesn't seem so bad. Of course cost can't be ignored. In reality, I'm actually planning to retire in Florida in about a year, for reasons you presented so well.
I would move back to Michigan but the taxes and cold winters keep me here in Florida.
I miss the fall colors up there. The fall colors come in the form of License Plates here in FL though.
I'll probably stay at my central Texas lake cabin. I would avoid July-mid September in the worst of the Texas heat up north to maybe Glen Arbor, MI area or a lot of the wealthy in Austin go to Park City, Utah for the summer.
I would look at San Diego if I really wanted to be near the water. Maybe La Jolla Shores. Near perfect weather.
Definitely the best place for sure. But and it’s a big but, the cost of living is out of control. La Jolla is even more expensive

Nice video, well presented ...but only positive spins. I am in the mist of researching whether to relocate to FL. Healthcare... out of 50 states with Hawaii at #1, Florida ranks between 22- 41 depending on the source. Taxes....yes, but sales tax is relatively high, insurance costs for property climbing, HOA fees rising ( with almost inevitable special assessments coming ). Nice weather...yes....but hot and humid, especially in the southern area where I might be looking ( Miami-Dade and Broward). Florida comes in at #1 for heat.

As a current Floridian, if money were no object, the city and state I would move to is Las Vegas, NV.
The reason why is because it is the last affordable state in the desert southwest people could potentially afford.
Yes, Las Vegas and Nevada as a whole doesn't have beaches, but as long as you build a house with an excessively large-size swimming pool, all can be forgiven.
Side note: Brightline Florida has a western division high-speed rail service going to Las Vegas and Los Angeles called Brightline West.
If I were to move, live, and work in Las Vegas and I wanted to go to the beach, I can take Brightline West from Las Vegas to Los Angeles and hop on Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner from Los Angeles to San Diego and stay a few days and nights there and just have a good time.

It is really hot in FL. The past year there was no winter. The biggest thing in FL now is that you never have to buy new furniture or senior products: like heel chairs, walkers, portable bide’as. Florida is often called God’s waiting room, by many residents. So many senior discounts. Unless you are rich, stay away from Disney World, and consider not moving to Orlando where the traffic is unreal!
I've lived in central FL my entire life, and i am ready for a change. That being said, I'm unsure about where to live. I definitely don't want snow (or at least very little of it). We are leaning toward Utah/Nevada/Arizona/Colorado area.

Hi, great video. You are correct the STATE of FL doesn't tax you on SS, retirement/pension income or 401 K and stuff but the Feds do. We are both retired and Hub is disabled.....we just had to pay over 4K. We live in a swamp...we love it, but it's not for everyone. People w money are buying it up at an alarming rate pushing up property taxes which in turn are leaving some people homeless living a camper on friends property or in an RV park. Not a bad life if your running out of options. This area has bar/restaurants, and TONS of bikers. God, guns and Country. There is also alot of drug deaths and roadside memorials due to (not all) drunk drivers. Loose packs of dogs is also the norm....the shelters and most rescues are FULL. Recently a mail carrier was mauled to death, and another woman was pulled off her electric bike...she was doing about 20 mph. Many loose dogs are feral. It is illegal to pick up a lost dog, and rehome it in Fl without making a concerted effort to find the owner/if there is one. Also dogs tied out ALL THE TIME is legal as long as they have a shelter, and water. Unlive dogs are frequently seen on the side of the road. Very sad. Car Insurace is high because there are alot of uninsureds here. If your car is new get GAP insurance. That's all I can think of from my observation. God bless. Look up clay county sheriff....he's awesome and gives you a good perspective on staying safe in Fl. It's a RED state and we like it that way. No liberal policies here thanks. And if you have to work (unless your paid well remotely) it's a right to work state (unfortunately) which means you work for little pay, and your boss can treat you like crap and you really have no recourse. Fire you at will. My observation.

I've had friends move here, then turn right around and go back up north because they did not understand that we have lots of huge bugs, snakes and lizards here in Florida and it freaked them out so that is another thing to know before moving here.

If money were no issue, I'd move to a barrier island community in Florida because they have no chance of sinkholes. It would have a safe bridge to the mainland. It would be in an area of less tornado possibility and less tsunami possibility. There's be a thriving organic farm nearby growing many things including tropical fruit trees. And then, since money was no issue, I'd return to the Pacific Northwest during hurricane season. (The barrier island would have its own airport for my private jet.)

If $$$ were no object, I would consider Sonoma, CA. So far (2 years retired) we are staying put in Erie CO (near Boulder).
Though not a state, my wife & I hope to retire to Charlotte Amalie, St Thomas, US Virgin Islands. If not, we couldn't make the US Virgin Islands happen for retirement, we wouldn't be upset staying where we are right now. We live 1.5miles from the ocean just outside Murrells Inlet, SC.
It's a gamble. HOAs and insurance are now off the charts. Because you can afford something doesn't mean you can continue to afford it. Also friends on the east coast constantly complain about people from the northeast moving down there in droves.

Truth be told, I'm very content where I'm at, halfway between Seattle, WA & Vancouver, BC. Sure, we get snow (I Hate Snow!) and lots of rain, but the good weather (not just summer) is hard to beat. I would move to Colorado Springs if money was no object. The brutal Colorado winter would be the cause of the higher expenditure. I would definitely want backup.power in case of blizzards & power outages.
Port Canaveral is getting a 2 Billion dollar upgrade. 20 more docks. There will be no more restaurants/bars at the port, so if you want to party you will have to spend your time elsewhere and possibly stay a few days at the many new hotels.
Florida was fun when I was a kid and interesting as a teenager, but hurricane insurance might be a tall order now 😂

If I were to choose a state to move to today I would choose the area and state of Prescott Arizona. My mother retired there and I enjoyed the area when visiting her.

I retired to the Virginia Peninsula in 2018. But i have unusual requirements. I need a hot, humid climate for my health, but like the relief that winter gives. I wanted an older community (houses built in 1950s) with one-level ranch houses. I wanted a peninsula because they can’t expand over the James River and Chesapeake Bay, which means less traffic. The foundation is clay and sand, meaning they can’t build up too high (6 stories is about the maximum.) Problems: water is individually metered and sky-high, with the Hampton Roads Sanitation District fee tied to it (about 2/3 of your water bill, even though most of your water is going straight into the ground to irrigate plants. My combined water+ HRSD in the summer is between $500 and $600 a month.
Good night. You don't have a leak somewhere do you? Before I moved to a place on well and septic, I wasn't spending anywhere near that amount between the Newport News Waterworks and HRSD bills, and that was for a family of four.
I've been to every single state. In the United States and to 55 countries we lived in Oregon for almost 30 years and throughout the United States. For various estate jobs that we had, I would say if I could live anywhere else besides Florida, because Florida has the best For retirement. taxes and is my native. State where I was born and raised I would move to.

Been on the Front Range of Colorado for 40 years and it's getting crowded so if moving it'd be the Western Slope of Colorado, southern Utah or Northern Arizona: absolutely hate humidity
