  • After nearly 3 weeks of stifling heat, I caught a break in early July to hit the trail. This day I chose to do an out and back flip flop in State Game Land 95. First, I went 3.6 miles (1.8 out and back) from Route 268 (not 368, as I say in the video once or twice) to Eldorado Road. After returning to my Jeep, I took the trail the opposite direction for .55 miles to Bear’s Mouth Bridge. That made for 1.1 miles. Total mileage for the day ended up at 4.7. North Country Trail miles for the year is now 113.42

My husband, now deceased, took me on this trail when we were newlywed. He grew up in Parker. While hiking that day, I nearly stepped on a copperhead. He stopped me right before my foot dropped. He had been there many times as a kid and thank goodness, knew what to watch for. Thanks for taking me back. Beautiful land.

Glad you were able to work out a part time gig with your employer. That's nice.

I've been meaning to re-hike that very section. I went through there summer 2022 and had all sorts of camera trouble. By the time I got to all those amazing swimmin' holes only my cheap Kodak was working, and I got caught in a thunderstorm. I kept the video unlisted as it wasn't up to my standards. Checking google maps, Bears Mouth Bridge is over "North Branch Bear Creek", which flows out into Bear Creek proper. The NCT to Dead Crow Bridge follows the North Branch. I love the name Eldorado Road since Eldorado was my favorite John Wayne movie!
