Amazfit GTR2 - full walkthrough review [Xiaomify]

- Well well well.. About a year after my review of the Amazfit GTR, they have launched the GTR2. Is it any good? Let's have a look!

So the GTR 2 has several improvements on the first generation GTR. It now has more tracking features, improved sensors, new sports tracking features, internal storage for music and it comes with a voice-assistant. It also has the PAI, stress level monitoring and blood-oxygen levels that we have seen on more watches lately.
It still has pretty much the same 14-days battery life, and it generally does still have the same functionality as on the GTR1, but it does have an improved design, and quite a few under-the-hood improvements.
I think it's still a great watch, it does what its supposed to do and, even though I personally like the design of the GTR 1 a little bit more, I am sure there's plenty of people that would prefer the design on the GTR2 though. - Věda a technologie

For those that are wondering about the Chinese characters in the notifications, that is because my notification from these Chinese apps are, well, in Chinses. The full UI on the watch is actually in English.

Well one of the things that worries me in GTR2 is the GPS quality, ive seen a lot of bad reviews about it. This isnt one of the most expensive smartwatches but GPS isnt properly a new thing, so having such bad quality in it doesnt make sence. Overall it looks amazing but i would like if you can give some details about your expirience with GPS tracking, both sensors and some more detailed features like calls ...

In the last 2 weeks ive been looking for a lot of reviews about GTR2 to get the pros and cons of it, and One of the cons that i see in the most of the videos is the poor GPS quality (ok, the first GTR has this problem too but they could fix it). I want to buy a smartwatch, but dont know if they Will fix this and add some more features (like starting calls from the watch like u can do in Huawei GT2). For the same price or less you can buy GT2, but its already 1yo and huami is likely to do some big updates that make the difference unlike Huawei cause they released GT2 Pro recently
@@miguelbarbosa7252 Yeah in the meantime I searched for it but it seems like a hardware problem (very low quality chip), so it's not solvable by firmware updates. Isn't huawei GT2 considerably more expensive than GTR though? Plus, I have some moral dilemmas with huawei too haha. Do you recommend any other fitness smartwatch in that price range? My top priorities are GPS and fitness capabilities, design is a plus (I don't want an Amazfit trex though).

The classic edition looks so formal. If you're just a normal human who uses watch as how its made to be. This is awesome.

I bought the amazfit gtr 2 and ended up taking it back. I was conflicted. I loved the battery, the look and most things about the watch. What it came down to was the inaccuracy of this tracker. The step counter is very inaccurate, the sleep tracker was okay, but quite limited in what it tracked. Seeing as this is an activity tracker, the fact that it's inaccurate made me send it back.
I ended up getting the Samsung galaxy watch 3. I love everything about it besides the battery life. But thats a small price to pay for such a quality tracker.
Bro does watch display lit for about 20 minutes work(available) on gtr 2???
Can probably quickly add alarms and reminders with the voice control too.
There are various uses of the voice feature. Helps a lot and makes the user experience a lot better.

I bought an Amazfit recently, great UI/Ux experience but I like the slim profile of the Huawei GT 2 42mm.
If they update it to have a bigger battery life I will buy it again

Will help in review for GTR 2, wifi feature is just for music transfer ...there is no option of wifi in UI...when you start transferring music from zepp app, then it will ask to enable wifi...so only connectivity in GTR 2 is bluetooth. Thought to share with you
Well i own it for a few months and truth being told i didn't noticed about that voice control menu . It's really cool .
How's the music experience with Bluetooth headpohnes?

Great video, as always.
However, I must notice that not a single word has been said about the GPS and its accuracy. The reason I'm bringing it up is that I had major issues with the original GTR which I replaced couple of times and then gave up as Amazefit said they are aware of the GPS issues.
I'm wondering if those issues have been fixed here or I should wait for something like the Stratos 4 as the Stratos seem to have a more reliable GPS overall.
have they fix it for the amazfit gtr 4?
Does the voice input only control the watch itself or can you ask all kinds of questions like you could with the standard Alexa client? E.g. calculator functions, unit conversions, word translations, etc.?
If(!) this is the case: do you receive answers via voice output (text-to-speech) or only as displayed text?

I had this running with a step counter and they were both close to each other.
You can control smart home devices with Alexa, so it's a very good feature.

I m gonna buy it soon as the price drops... 😁😁😁.... As of now m using amazfit bip.. Best battery ever... Without notifications on.. It actually lasts for more than 50 days.. I m really amazed.. Thats d reason m not switching it.. 😅
I like the previous Amazfit model and for the features I use still... I dont really see much of an improvement over my BAU usage... I think like yourself... I prefer the look of the previous model a little more... alot of cheaper trackers are incorporating a blood pressure monitor now which may have been enough to make me buy this new model but alas... still missing on this new version... that would have been a real incentive to buy over the previous model... like the fact it has more music capability but to be honest... I will always have my phone even when keeping fit so the phone will still be more convienient to use for this purpose... I still think the Amazfit is a killer brand but a little disappointed that I might have to wait for GTR 3 for a significant advancement in features to make it worth upgrading... thanks for the review...

Can you tell me please What is the difference between global,classic & sports edition??
I have the stratos (2) for over 2 y now. Seems like last 3 months i have no more sync problems with the app (now Zepp).
I read about alot of problems with the gtr (gps etc).
You can reset your watch to factory settings and after that the problem was solved in my case
Is there any way to use amazfit watches and mi band simultaneously without deactivating them one of the time in Zepp app? 🙄
You didn't tell anything about calling & talking thru this watch. Thats the biggest improvement youve missed.

Guys with the new version of this watch,u can make and receive calls from the watch itself,but notifications can only be read and no reply can be sent directly from the watch

I hate the look of the apple watch so I wanted something more stylish. This is one of the few non apple watches that work well with iPhones. I can answer iPhone calls on the wrist, something very rare in non-apple watches. I tried the Ticwatch 3 Pro and it couldn't answer call from and iPhone. I tried the Fossile Gen 6 and it's display is inferior to this watch, the battery life was a joke, and Wear OS2 is buggy when paired with an iPhone. I'm loving the Amazfit GTR 2, amazing battery life, pairs easily with iPhone, and looks amazing. Good video BTW.
They can also add small flash light on empty space of watch
Thank you for the nice review. Have you tested GPS? On first GTR it is very slow and not so accurate. How is it on GTR2?
I am curious about the same, I had GTR and returned it because the GPS was terrible. I hope this time is better, apart of that the watch look pretty nice :)
I bought the GTR’s little brother, the Bip S, last month and am very satisfied with its accuracy. There was one occasion where it gave a shorter reading, very likely because I was running in the rain with very heavy clouds overhead. By right, GTR2’s GPS should be as good if not better than my Bip S.

The Bip S has gps. However, the Bip U doesn’t but is cheaper.

I have already pre ordered it. I don't see Gps function any where in feature,, am worried, whether, it has Gps function or not.
If there is no Gps I will request for cancellation.
I have one and it doesn't take 2 hours to charge.... 45 minutes to charge and i can use it 5 days straight. It's a good smartwatch and the calls through the watch app are very good. I bought it one month ago.
Can we reply to social media apps directly from watch ??

you forgot to mention the call feature, which is probably one of the most important features if not the most important one.
And can you take calls from it?
This would be an amazing smartwatch if it just had the following features:
- Spotify
- The ability to answer texts/emails
- The ability to call others and not only recieve phone calls
- an app store or library similar to other watches. That way you could have applications such as calculator or maps or calenders
Features that I don't think would affect the battery life too much. Hopefully some of these features (especially spotify) will come with the next generation.
They would definetly be.. But these apps are programmed to work on platforms like Android, iOS, MacOS, Windows etc... The massive gap in battery life and price between the Amazfit smartwatches and other smartwatches is only possible due to the proprietary (own) operating system. Usally smartwatches are running WearOS, which is a Android derivation, so tehy can run any android apps. Amazfits unfortunately can't. And i don't think they will anytime soon.

My Amazfit GTR 2 fully charged within 1.30 hours with 25 watt mobile charger. Is it okay with this charger or it may damage battery life cycle?
I don't like exposed glass edges. Glass is glass and glass breaks. I bought the t-rex because it has a proper shock absorbing ring around the screen. I wish these elegant watches at least had a little bump protection.
Are there any amazfit or amazfaces watch faces that have a sweeping (automatic mechanical) movement rather than a quartz movement? As clunky and awkward as the ticwatches (e2, s2, etc...) are, at least they have a ton of sweeping mechanical movements on their watch faces.

My GTR2e is giving whacky responses for pool swimming. Missing laps and miscounting distance. Not too happy with it right now. Also, the GPS has been spotty for cycling and running.

Unless you can install few useful Google apps and other 3rd party apps, all android smart watches are just decorated smart bands.
Yeah, I would say that watches that don’t have WearOS are not quite smart watches. Maybe glorified fitness trackers. But wouldn’t you say watches with WearOS are smart watches?

Recently I bought an Amazfit Gtr2 watch that is stuck on the logo, I tried hard reset and soft reset but nothing works, it is continuously showing the same logo, I am unable to connect the watch with mobile or application to change the face.
After the battery drained out I connect with the charger but nothing work.

You need to connect to the app and display the course in it to see the google map.

i have issue with call notifications, using iphone 11 pro max, while everything works fine, suddenly bluetooth disconnects and phone calls are not working, all other notifications are still working. only solution is to restart the smartwatch, i have also returned it, got new and still have the same issue, any ideas?

I bought the GTR 2e for sleep monitoring and health sensors. I tested it the other night and it produces a report with light/deep/REM stages, HR, breathing difficulties, comparison to average, etc. Not sure how they manage to compute all that from the sensors, and what level of accuracy, but the successions of sleep stages look realistic. It reported my breathing difficulties, with the approximative timing and level.
You need the app for this part, the watch only records data. Also you may need to enable some options in the app first, at least for breathing monitoring during sleep...
Some limitations, even in the app the graph is a quite small, although you can tap each sleep stage to get the exact time it starts and ends, and only with vertical display on my smartphone (the app doesn't rotate with the phone) also I can't zoom the image.
I didn't try to connect to external websites like Strava, Google fit/health, etc, so I have no idea yet if you can get more precision from the data, or tables, export the files, etc. maybe someone has tried ?
Also sensors are not fast and probably also less accurate than medical devices (a tiny psO2 sensor on your fingertip will display the correct value in a few seconds only, while the watch needs nearly a minute). Of course some hair and dry skin between the watch and the body won't help, so same issue with temperature which is always lower on the skin than in the mouth anyway, heart rate may also need some seconds to display correctly, etc.
All in all it doesn't look too bad, I'll keep trying to find a way to detect and correct my sleeping issues with it.

@@brucelin5842 It seems the Garmin has more accurate HR and maybe more elaborated app/soft for workout and sport, but I'm not sure they have real sleep analysis ?
GPS looks fine on my GTR 2e, (on par with a Garmin e-trex) of course any trees and building or mountain and you are 10 meters or more off course, and you can't use it alone for navigation as the map is not displayed on the watch...
Maybe you need to look more in detail if Garmin offers some additional options that could be useful for your specific activity. I first wanted the Garmin (all my GPS devices are Garmin), but I think it was battery life that made me chose the Amazfit, also I don't really do intense workouts... that said no watch will last as long as announced, if you use it for anything else than displaying time you can safely bet on 1/2 or 1/3 of that !
