  • @creativequince
    @creativequince Před rokem +28

    I tend to believe there were some constraints put on the creators. In her launch video, Betty Jean said that OE "wanted a warm palette" and she was down with that. Clear indication that they did not have full creative control. However, I watch Amanda (MU Just for Fun) faithfully and can confidently say this is very her. She loves purple and green eyeshadow. She also talked about going back and forth with OE to get each color just right. P.S.: Ooof! Your poor eyes with all of this swatching! Thanks for taking one for the team.

    • @KaraChapman
      @KaraChapman  Před rokem +3

      Thank you for the insight into Amanda's typical colour preferences. I suspect that brand had a theme in mind and the creators were able to select shades within that overall theme. Controlled creativity??

      @@KaraChapman that's what I think it was. The brand gave them the theme. That's what I gathered from Lauren's reveal. So she kind of had to have blues in a water-themed palette. I wonder how much they got to tweak the shimmer formulas though since a lot of them seem to be lacking - like 2/3 look like they could use more oomph, shimmer, shift, or just SOMETHING special about it. On the reveals I was disappointed to see so many look like "normal" shimmers. I hardly reach for a normal shimmer so those shades won't get used much unless I could top with a more transformative shade and make it more interesting. I dunno. We'll see... I've gotten to think of Oden's Eye as one of thise brands that I will always buy their palettes but not if the quality is seemingly dropping

I agree that the Battybean palette didn’t quite make me think of Battybean’s typical aesthetic, but she can do wonders with any color story. I thought that the most genuine colour story was Amanda's. Lauren has been all about neutrals with maybe a pop or colour, and batty beans also doesn't feel like hers...
    In any case, I've had similar experience with both mattes and shimmers. Some need a lot of buildup, some are awsome, opaque but blendable. The shimmers sometimes are very sparkly and interesting, but sometimes hard pan soooo easily...
    I think that the company needs honest reviews from more people cause right now it feels like a cult.

      They are actually a mixed bag in several palettes. I have multiple palettes with dry patchy mattes (Wolves, Dragon, Alva II, Nornes II) and hard pan in shimmers I have in all palettes too. I doubt this collection is that different you just usually don't get honest reviews but all hype until later when people actually paid for their palettes. First off, thank you for putting so much work into making this video! It’s so helpful to see all of these eye swatched.
    I personally have used some of the OE shadows before, and I gotta say they’ve never really looked like this on me. Maybe I’m just doing something different (I don’t set my eyes) or maybe it’s a texture thing? I’m not sure. The shimmers I have used from them in particular have looked - in my opinion - a lot better than they seem to here. But I don’t know if that’s an inconsistent quality issue, or an eyelid difference, or a preparation difference or what.
    I rarely use primer and I never set my eyes, and I always use my finger for shimmers. So it’s definitely a different way of applying. But I love that you’ve shown this way as well because so many people apply eyeshadows this way. And it’s so important to see how everything works with the way each person applies. Because we’re not all going to change our habits for one (or three) palette(s), you know?
    Sorry if this is ramble-y. My point is, I think these palettes will still work for me and they way I apply my eyeshadow. But I can definitely see that it may not work for others.
    I really, really appreciate the massive effort you put into doing a video like this! Thank you for sharing this with us!!! 💖

      Thanks for the feedback! I love when people share their own experiences with a product, especially when it differs from my experience. It just helps anyone else who's reading the comments to gain extra information. I will say, I've used the Flora and Spirit palettes without too much difficulty. The shadows do build up, although some of the shimmers are still too weak for my own preferences, but I've found that I really need to work to get some of the darker mattes to blend out nicely.
      The Christmas palettes were much easier to work with in my opinion. These ones had too many hit or miss shades for my liking.

    What a fascinating and helpful video! I've got so many thoughts. For one, I think Amanda's palette looks EXACTLY like what she would create - she had always loved purple and she fell in love with greens this year. She likes colour, but usually a bit muted. I did feel surprised that Batty Beans didn't have more smokiness to it, and Lauren's seems more dramatic that what I usually picture on her. The way they've phrased it in launch videos seems to be "when Oden's Eye approached me to do a blue palette/warm colour palette" which to me sounds like they had some parameters in how their colour story would fit the trip, but got to choose all the colours within. Angie speaks so highlight of working with Oden's Eye, so I trust that these creators also had a lot of input. That said... I know I want Amanda's palette, because it is exactly up my alley. I was torn on if I would buy Lauren Mae's to get free shipping, but now I'm wondering about other items I might pick up instead. What would you recommend from Oden's Eye that woudl equal about $30USD?

    I watch all 3 creators and like all 3 for varying reasons. Unless this video changes my mind for some reason, I plan on getting Lauren's and Amanda's palettes. BettyJean's color story is not one that I'll use except for maybe 1 or 2 shades. After hearing your thoughts on the colors that were chosen for each individual's palette, I gotta say that the only one I really question is BettyJean's. Mostly bc of the oranges that are in there. She has said many MANY times that the "warm neutral with a pop of blue" era of palettes turned her off of using orange and up until recently, she very seldom ever used orange in her looks. (I know she put orange in her latest Shroud palette, but it was a Halloween themed collab, so you almost had to expect that it'd be in there in some capacity.) As for Amanda's and Lauren's, theirs look a bit more like something that they would have chosen on their own to some degree. Amanda loves purple and neutrals, and in the past couple of yrs has really developed a deep love for green. As for Lauren, she's always been about sparkly, ethereal, colorful shadows and over the past yr has really gotten more into neutrals.. especially cool-toned taupes. The chartreuse color I've seen her wear a TON. She mostly uses it as an inner corner shade and it looks so lovely on her. (SUPER jealous bc that's a color that I myself can't pull off 😤😂) But bc she used to be only into colorful shadows, but now is into neutrals, I think she wanted to make a palette that was the best of both worlds, if that makes sense. Anyway, if Oden's Eye did influence the selection of shades, I wonder how it was done. I know nothing about the inner workings of the makeup industry, but maybe Oden's Eye gave them a like a pool of shades to choose from and the creators had to build their palettes from that? Idk, but I'd sure be interested to find out! Ok, back to the video!
    Oh and real quick, just wanna say THANK YOU KARA for doing eye swatches! I can only imagine how they felt after and the fact that you put your poor eyelids through all of that for us does not go unnoticed! Oden's eye clearly already knew the theme of the collection they wanted to do, then choose the creators and worked with them. They had guidelines for the color scheme. Their prior collabs with Judy and Annette were the same. While they didn't detail too much if you watched Judy's video it was clear she was given the theme and color scheme. They obviously handpicked the creators for their specific cultural backgrounds and already had cover art in mind too

    • @TheMunchkinita2509
      @TheMunchkinita2509 Před rokem

      @EXOmake_meHorololo ! personally, I don't care who picked the theme or how the packaging looks. And tbh, it would be weird if OE wasn't the one who picked all that. With it being 3 collaborators it needed to be cohesive across the board and if they had let the 3 do their own thing it wouldn't have been. And idk if it's so much as, "pick from these colors" or if it's "this is the theme and vibe, pick colors that remind you of this". Having said that, none of this changes my original statement. The color stories that are picked ARE indicative of the creators.. for the most part.

    • @KaraChapman
      @KaraChapman  Před rokem +1

      Thank you for this insight! My guess (and it's just a guess) is that OE had the overall theming in mind and presented that to the creators and then they were able to select the specific shades to fulfill that theme. I could be completely off, but I think that would help to explain Betty-Jean's palette and how different it is from her usual aesthetic.

    I’ve been « struggling » with the idea of buying this collection. Although I love Betty Jean, that colour story didn’t speak to me all that much, but I really like the two other ones. Your review gives me a new perspective on them.
    Now with a new dog in the house and the need to be more intentional with my money… it just feels like a have to make better choices.
    Thing is… they are launching the same week as the chucky collection from Glamlite and as I’m both a horror and a cool-tone fan… I’ve been craving this collection more. But then I usually love Oden’s eye formulas…

      @@KaraChapman I’ve ultimately decided to pass on it. I need to buy less makeup and focus on things that really speaks to me… hence why I bought the chucky one. It does indeed fit my aesthetic much more and it made me giddy to see the palette, the packaging, the colours… I got the pre order though because my meeting ran long and I missed out on the launch (all three minutes of it 🙃).

    I am so glad I'm not the only one wondering why Odens Eye shimmers are so inconsistent! They've definitely shown they can make an amazing foiled shimmer so why not just make everything that shiny?? 🥹

    • @exomake_mehorololo
      @exomake_mehorololo Před rokem +2

      I don't have a single palette from a single brand including all shimmer palettes were all shimmers in a palette are the same intense shiny quality. I have over 400 palettes from all the hype brands... Usually there is more than 1 formula and colours that seem more difficult to get right. So I'm not surprised

    • @KaraChapman
      @KaraChapman  Před rokem

      I get that they may want to make some shadows more "ethereal" and some more full bore shimmery, however, even across the same finish there are inconsistencies and that's what I don't understand. I do think they've improved from their early days, but I think there's still room for improvement.

    Such a helpful video!! You’re so funny haha I also do that when I wear a red or purple toned shadow and can’t help but stare at how those shades bring out all the green in my eyes. I think if I ever would choose one it would either be Lauren’s or maybe Amanda’s. But I did get the Hela and both Xmas palettes and I really like the formulas but I find they none of the color stories are something I want to grab often enough, so I mostly use them with other palettes. The multichromes in those palettes are to die for though, but after seeing this and some other reviews on the single shadows, I’m passing on it all. However… I want a couple blushes from the Solmane collection! They are so gorgeous! Love eye swatch videos. Thanks again for making this video! I bet your eyes hurt by the end of this. @@KaraChapman Yes! completely agree. I also think it’s interesting that they did 3 collabs in one launch, then Angi by herself, now another 3 creators once again. But it seems like these ladies all had to follow a certain color scheme while Angi’s palette I’m almost positive she had much more creative control than them, if I’m not mistaken. I’m happy for all of the girls of course and it’s super exciting, but I feel bad for them if the quality isn’t the normal awesome OE formula! It still looks workable, just doesn’t bring the normal wow factor.

  • @charmedbymeghan
    @charmedbymeghan Před rokem

    So I just got these in the mail earlier today! And I only used Amanda's palette so far. I completely understand what people mean by being too hard-pressed or maybe it's that there is too much binder in their shimmers? And that's why they get hard pan more easily or it's harder to pick up. But I have to say for the $30 I paid for each palette - I still think the quality is really good. I am happy with the amount of sparkle in some of the shades and that there is a multichrome too. The mattes blend easily - no real issue there, but I wish there was more pigment in a couple of the lighter shades (like Natasha Denona or Melt but that may be asking a lot lol)... so I'm not mad about my purchase.
    ... I would like to see them tweak the shimmers some though to make them work a little easier, not so tightly packed and I think if they worked on the formula to have less binder that would make a world of difference too. 🤷‍♀️ I also noticed that some of their singles had too much binder in them too.

    Thanks for doing this video! It seems like the formula for these palettes isn’t the same as their others. While I love all these creators, I am not sure I am picking up any of these palettes, and I have almost everything Oden’s Eye has released! Their Christmas release was fabulous, as well as their other Legendary Diversa palettes, but these don’t seem to measure up. It makes me sad-I am sure these creators worked hard on these, and they deserved to have better quality.

      @KaraChapman  Před rokem +1

      I totally agree! The quality of the Christmas palettes was great; these are lacking and I feel badly for the creators for that. it's complete out of their control and they are did a great job curating the palettes (even in the case of Betty-Jean's where I didn't think the colour story was very "her", that doesn't mean she didn't create a fun and vibrant palette).

    Thank you for the eye swatches! And being HONEST! I did buy all 3 palettes - haven't gotten them in my hands yet though. And I could pretty much tell from the reveal videos and swatches that I wasn't going to love most of the shimmers. I've come to expect better from Oden's Eye. But I do usually love their matte formula and I was hoping that they'd be better IRL. This kinda shows me that what I was initially thinking is how it will be. Which is a shame. I am still glad I bought them. But I will definitely be more weary buying OE in the future. I was hoping for their formulas to keep improving but these don't seem as good as the last collab palettes or even the Christmas palettes. Do you find that to be true?

    • @KaraChapman

      I definitely see a difference between these and the Christmas palettes. Even the Hela palette had better quality. These fall below what I expect of OE. The Flora palette is workable. I recommend using a spritz of setting spray after picking the shimmers up on a brush to really boost their intensity. The deepest shade needs building up, but if you put in the effort with it, it does turn out nicely on the eyes.
