    Do you have children and grandchildren in the US? I am so torn between leaving to live life abroad and spending time with my grown children and be there when they have children. I fear to have regrets no matter what I choose.

    Many many more men will tell you they regret getting married than those who regret not getting married..
    And "I wish I started saving for retirement earlier"

    I am 35 and have had these same thoughts. Have let my accounting firm know that I am not going to be working late hours anymore in order to spend more time with family. TIme is too precious.

    This is so true. I’m 57 and I have been been living this through life with advice of 6 Close friends without realizing it. These close friends all retired a 62 and share stories with me all the time. These Friends are more like family and keep me on check. Started planning early retirement. On track with 5 year plan.

    Decide (ON THE SPOT) if doing or not doing something will be regretful. Make peace with such things by either doing them or deciding against them. If you look at life that way, there will be no residual regret to carry forward with you. Because you made that conscious decision when it happened. The point of the story is to make an intelligent choice EVERY TIME or live with the consequences but without regrets.

      Dear Marie, there is only one way to answer the "I don't know what I want to do" question! That is by doing. I wanted to teach. I taught for two years and loved teaching, but I hated all the stuff that went with it! Then I thought, I would like to act! So, I went back to school for a master's in fine arts. That didn't work out so well! Then I thought, I'd love to sing. I sang for five years [professionally until I realized I didn't like working at night; I didn't like moving from town to town to sing. So I stopped. Then I thought, well, I'd like to be in the financial services industry, so I sold insurance for five years until I realized that I didn't like selling something that most people don't need, is too expensive, and didn't like! But while I was selling insurance, I asked a lot of questions. What do you need the most help with? What would you like to learn more about? How can I help? The answers always came back to the same thing! Savings! How do I do that? So that is what I did!
      Sixteen years after I started teaching I got my first broker's license..... I have loved it ever since. It took me sixteen years to find exactly what I wanted to do! I failed a number of times, but I never stopped looking! That is the only answer I have for you! Look, continue looking, fail, and continue looking. You will find what you are good at and what is special to you! Confucious said, "It is not how slow you go. It is that you never stop!" I wish you well Chip

      Thank you for replying, Chip. And thank you for the wonderful advice. I appreciate your honest life experiences of failing and succeeding. I, too, am a retired teacher (30 years, elementary.) So far I've taken sewing classes, Tennessee Naturalist classes, and currently volunteering with several organizations. While I enjoy all these experiences, I haven't found the one that resonates yet. I will take your advice and keep looking! Thanks for the confidence booster! : ) On a side note, my husband and I are attending a wedding anniversary celebration in Locorotondo, Italy at the end of September. We are making Bari our home base and plan to take day trips from there. Grazie Mille, Marie@@infothelaughingretirement3008

    Not sure I understand correctly. When you buy a house in a 7% tax area, after 6 months do you pay the normal non citizen tax fee's?

    • @infothelaughingretirement3008
      @infothelaughingretirement3008 Před rokem

      Italy has a tax on the purchase of RE. It is a one-time first home tax and is comparatively low compared to the US. I think that is what you are asking.
