So basically 1) renew our mind by reading the word 2) Speak the word out in prayer and confessions 3) Ask the holy spirit for help to change our thoughts (in a continual manner)

      Proverbs.
He forms all of our thoughts.
Ask good to form all of your thoughts.
The sin ful thoughts will be washed away and cast out through Gods work on our mind.
      This is far to complicated.
Whatsoever ye ask in my name.
Read the word... Let it sink in.
Repeat it under your breath. Al day and night.

I can empathize with Pastor John when he says, "I wept at the structures in my mind that were torn down." Lately I've been thinking about all of the idolatry God has been chipping away in my heart and mind. It is astounding how deep rooted idolatry and false beliefs can be. You know, that part in the Gospel where Jesus overturns the tables and drives out all of the merchants? Sometimes I think He's like that with our minds. Only he drives out our unrighteousness and sinful thinking. Or whatever else misleads us. Just a thought, I dunno. •_•

I find writing Scripture in large print on blank paper, and taping them around the room, lounge anywhere that you can see from your central seated position, on the walls, curtains, bathroom mirror, fridge, wardrobe etc. This will help visually as your eyes will focus in from wherever you happen to be in the room. l also have a memory list of what scriptures are ' hot ' for my current situations. And set aside daily memory time Like when you have a quiet Bible study time. Make time.. Early in the morning, sometime during the day and in the evening quiet ( prayer) time..

My circumstances surrounding me are extremely stressful and cause me to live in constant fear and angst. I am sort of trapped in my own body due to a neck injury years ago, chronic pain/disabled now, and am just trapped right where I am at. I believe in Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit but I feel in my case I am just … unfixable or in Gods eyes- a lost cause. I’m broken inside and out. Mentally defeated depressed and discouraged. Sorry to be a downer but it’s the truth. I feel God has given up on me. How can things just keep going from bad to worse? Will I ever know inner peace?

For my future reference, here is my summary of this podcast:
2 Corinthians 10: 4 - 5 "(4)since the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but are powerful through God for the demolition of strongholds. We demolish arguments (5) and every proud thing that is raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to obey Christ."
The enemy in these texts is the minds and lofty, proud arguments lifted up against God." The apostle Paul demolishes these arguments by divine power so that people can think rightly about Christ, be obedient in how they think about Christ.
How do we apply the verses to ourselves? We should listen to Paul and submit all our own thoughts, ideas, worldviews, about God to Paul's teachings. We should ask the Holy Spirit to work; this not only about mere intellect, but also about seeking God's face. This way, our minds can be brought to alignment with the mind of Christ.

So often I've heard this verse preached in the same context Sarah has probably heard it too. For many years, I too thought about it as me taking my thoughts captive in regard to growing in obedience. While we do want to subject ourselves to...surrender our minds to Christ, this is Paul so obviously saying how we as fellow workers and ministers in the Gospel are able to rely upon the power of God in tandem with the knowledge of the truth to make converts. But as Pastor Piper points out so well, we hope to mature in faith unto increasingly greater, more full obedience, and seeing how Paul calls us to depend upon the power of Christ to do both: make certain our thoughts are willingly being taken captive unto obedience (for God's glory) while employing the same dual dynamic for evangelism. Knowledge proclaimed and power applied...by God the Spirit. Sometimes I comment simply to help myself remember what was proclaimed through the preachers hermeneutics, like now.

These strong holds are in deed in our mind. Example when we lay hands on the sick and heal them, WHICH we are suppose to do! Thoughts may come in our minds that do not line up with the word of God. We are to take captive those thoughts and bring it into obedience to Christ. What could those thoughts be...... doubt that we can not heal the sick or cast of demons or anything else that requires FAITH!!!! IT IS the spiritual world that moves against our faith. This is what this verse is talking about my brother

That scripture clearly speaks against but for some reason I just can’t shake them in my heart that God hates me in isn’t real and isn’t listening to me when I know that’s not the truth but yet I still want the lie control me and therefore controls the way I feel towards God in my prayer life please pray for me.

The only thoughts we can take captive is our own. So we should examine everything in our thoughts. Next we can hear what others are saying and weigh that against the truth. If we are in constant fellowship in prayer and the word, meditate on the word this becomes easier and easier as we grow in God. Press towards the mark.🙏🏻♥️

Right...how can it be Paul's responsibility? It's an act of our own will...no matter what passages of scripture we are applying. Confusing to me as well...maybe I'm missing something here.

We all have sinned and fell short of the glory to God. The problem is, that God is holy and doesn’t live with sin. So we all deserve to go to hell, but Jesus paid the price so you don’t have to. All you have to do is confess Jesus as your savior and repent (turn from all sin) and you can have eternal life!

I’m sorry but you’re telling others to ask Paul (a mere human) to change our minds and submit to him? That’s totally against the word of God. Though I see the message that is a danger to young Christians in the baby stages of their walk and against Gods word. I would retouch this question and study that verse again.

Sometimes we over think this. Number 1. Recognize the thought in your mind as good or evil. Number 2 evil thoughts have to called out through prayer. Then they need to be given or handed over to Jesus. He will take your evil thoughts. Number 3 you pray for those evil thoughts to be replaced by that which is good an acceptable to Jesus. Allowing the Holy Spirit to empower you in this battlefield of the mind. It’s faith in agreement with gods word. There’s no specific magical word or verse to repeat over and over.

God and Jesus love all of you hmu with any questions have a good day God bless✝️❤️❤️ good works dont get u to Heaven God's grace does John 3:16

No, sorry, you missed it. As well as most who miss it, when I try to make it into something else. We need to look at the whole chapter, as it is a "thought" that Paul is making about a specific incident. Which is told in verse 2, and expanded thru the entirety, needing a historical perspective as well. Since we know if his writings in the Bible. Which they did not have, sans the OT. Bc what he says there (2) is that some don't think he is led by the Spirit, but speaking of his own. So he starts with the Spirit of God and idolatry. Meaning that the people Paul was talking about were lifting themselves up, and against the Spirit of God working thru Paul, to spread the knowledge of God (which is a theme throughout the Bible in the OT and as WE know it in the NT; by his Spirit, thru people) But his accusers didn't know about the Spirit in Paul, probably bc they didn't have Jesus. And that's what Paul goes on to say in vs 7. But verse 4 that everyone uses is actually an interjection setting up 5 & 6. "Mighty through God to the pulling do n of strongholds", more military imagery that Paul uses throughout his writings. And where are strongholds? They can be in the heavenlies or in our mind. Look ate vs 5, casting down means literal destruction. He associates it with imaginations and then "every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God". Paul writings have a pattern of blending new/old, carnal/spiritual, Roman military/army of God (Christian soldiers). Even as the often ignored vs 6 characterizes their later bloody power struggles for centuries....So I say again that it's not Paul's teaching or accurate Church doctrine to capture and control your thoughts of sin, bc you are sin/carnal. Jesus called us EVIL. The Church still doesn't understand that concept, along with many others. Bc old/ignorant teaching is passed from gen to gen, in schooling. And it's only in walking with Christ/Spirit that we learn fully about him and his teaching. In his red letters, or the Spirit in Paul...But people love to manipulate Paul to say what they want; and the Bible in general...Oh, the negativity! Yes, just as Jesus has made it. Can you understand that, youngsters in the LORD?

False. The bible is saying it to BOTH other people AND to take our OWN thoughts captive because they don't only come from us....but....from an outside source that sometimes cannot be trusted. (Satan, Demons, The Flesh, etc...AND sometimes from God, Jesus, the Holy spirit or "Watchers"/Angels OR of course YOU) I guess even the best of pastors and preachers like John can sometimes be slightly wrong about certain things in the bible. Can't know everything I guess. Still love John Piper though. He's the real thing.

Bad immoral Thoughts you dont want are subjected to the WORD and the power of holy spirit/resurrected zoe life. Just as Jesus subjected satanic attacks by thoughts in the wilderness to the word. He overcame them and can overcome them in us (his life in us overcomes as we ask for help) ! Hebrews 4:15
    John 16:33, 2 peter 1:2-10
As paul says in Romans 7, paraphrased ..when the thoughts/desires are not generated and entertained by us, its king sin looking for his way in us ! We die to sin by resurrected life working in us !
It's a process until final death and resurrection! As Martin Luther said *we die daily*
Shalom in his overcoming life in us !
    Philippians 1:6
    Note -
The process of sin, is *entertained* bad desires/thoughts that lead to sin and death.
The bad thoughts / desires *if not entertained* do not become sin in us
    Read james 1:14-15

@@mattlove9066 I use to believe what you stated. Although you might've used this quote randomly, it is a widely accepted new age school of thought. It is important to test what we come across with the Word of the Lord. The Word of the Lord is pure and true. So hold steadfast to His Word at all times. Thoughts if left unchecked will consume the mind and lead to sin in the long run. So we are to instantly fight it with our shield of faith. Hold your ground in Christ and take it captive. Bind every thought that opposes the knowledge of Christ. His Word is true. Fill your heart with the Word of the Lord. Stand firm. The battle belongs to the Lord. You have to stand your ground, be watchful, alert and ready to confide in Christ. It is important to let the Devil know where we stand. Our identity and allegiance should be firmly rooted in Christ.
