Lipase is secreted by pancreas. It plays a predominant role in the digestion of fats. Levels of pancreas are increased in the presence of inflammation of the pancreas. It is usually ordered in the presence of abdominal pain esp when the doctor suspects pancreatitis.
Amylase & Lipase are typically ordered in the presence of pancreatitis . However Lipase is the better test out of the two as it has more sensitivity and specificity.
Causes of pancreatitis
1. Alcoholism
2. Biliary tract obstruction
3. Hypertriglyceridemia
4.Pancreatic cancer
Normal range is Less than 38 U/L
For the diagnosis of acute pancreatitis the levels are usually increased by over three times the upper limit. However the levels does not correlate with the severity of the disease.

I have no lipase levels... Should I be worried?

My lipase is at 59, is that normal. Apparently my blood test indicated it was a bit high 😢 Range was 0 to 53. I know my ldl is still abnormal and my glucose is 100. I went to the ER due to dizziness and apparently from my vitals, I was dehydrated. Also, I have few gallstones, 8mm. I don’t have pain, no nausea or no yellowing in the eyes. Not sure why my lipase level was elevated. Could it be due to dehydration?

There is real chance of having all those parameters being normal in chronic pancreatitis. Additional testing with CT/ MRI can be of more help especially when they are correlated with clinical symptoms .

Interpretation of lipa se can get little complex at times. The most critical point here is to correlate the values of lipase with the clinical symptoms( Abdominal pain ). As per my understanding ur value is 64 when the cut off value is 58. This should not be a cause of worry unless you have chronic abdomen pain / take a little too much of alcohol / have gallstones.
In the absence of any symptoms is usually to start of with a repeat confirmation as the lipase levels can at times shows daily fluctuation. Lipase basically detects pancreatitis . In severe cases the levels will rise over 3 times the upper limit ( 184 in your cases)
I'm afraid Ultrasound is not going to help to diagnose pancreatitis unless there are gallstones. Speak with your doctor regarding the options available

I do not have any pain, just a little bit when i eat grease stuff, burgers and pizza, soda etc, but after that i feel no pain whatsoever, thanks for taking the time to reply! My 4 year old girl lipase test reange is 59.58 please tell normal or not
Levels greater than 3 times the upper limit are a clear indication of abnormal result . (For ex if the limit is 39 , levels greater than 120 are a definite problem)
In you child lipase levels are not entirely clear and it needs to be correlated with the symptoms your girl is having like abdomen pain and other examination findings
