Aloha Talmadge! Thanks again for this update. Earthquakes of 4.2 are barely enough to get our attention, even when we're already up. This one we slept through. However, lest any think how lazy we are - we are retired, comfortable, and often up and on our computers until 3 am.
Yes, sobering and sad, cuz ppl don't learn from history and still choose to live in the shadow of volcanos even so-called sleeping ones. Smh They say insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results, well hello, ya think? Lol
Krakatau is a completely different type of volcano. Fearmongers and traders of doom are at it full tilt. Volcanism doesn't get much more benign than a Hawaiian eruption (that's actually a term of the trade). It's bad if your home is in the way of the lava flows. And you should protect from ashfall (boo hoo, a breathing mask for particulate matter is all it takes) and get out of the way of SO2. She ain't gonna blow big time. Those fire mountains don't produce anythin more than burps compared to really dangerous volcanoes.
I have in the past, I now live where tornados come and say hi. Also lived where wildfires happen. If you keep showing an area where only one road to get to safety, and the road is being threatened. If your going to be selfish, and wait until the road isn't available, and others have to risk their lives to save you.
I have the luxury of being a volunteer firefighter, to give up my personal time to help those around me that cannot. I devote hundreds of hours to be a better firefighter. I will risk my life for others, but if it can be prevented so the risk is reduced. Why increase the risk of not needed.
If it were me in this situation, i would leave before it was too late. Homes can be rebuilt, lives can’t. Plus if the only road in and out is cut off, that’s a death sentence.
Anyone leaving a comment should also say if you live on big island or not because most of these comments dont seem to be informed about what's going on.
Aloha Christopher! We live in HPP, between Hilo and Pahoa. We do almost all our shopping in Pahoa. We're keeping a watch on happenings, and our thoughts and prayers go out to those who have been evacuated. We also donate for them.
I would like to comment about the announcement that the ash is nothing to worry about. Ash has minute particles of glass and gets in your lungs creates havock cutting and shredding them. How do I know. Personal experience. Nearly took my life. Remember Pele's tears. That's glass. Wear a mask. Protect yourself and stay out of it.
This quake was centered near halemaumau crater, not on the slump plane. Almost certainly the result of activity in or near the crater, whether from magma, rock falls, or phreatic activity.
Romans 10:9-11 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
therealnightwriter JESUS also called I'SA in q'ran is a real person. .the word became flesh and dwelt among us John 1:1-14 i don't follow the new age style fake Christianity or churches. .

4.2 ??? I wouldn't even get out of bed for that one. Those are the fun size quakes you just kinda laugh at.
Smile SurferStyle then u remember that recent quake count is well over 400 including a 6.9
Thank you for all the updates
Yeah, I'm a little concerned. Especially considering people are still standing RIGHT ON TOP OF THE VOLCANO!
Oh really? They probably thought the same thing right before Krakatoa blew itself to smithereens. :(
I just watched this docu-drama on Krakatoa! Good but sobering: czcams.com/video/MrEIT66oPqU/video.html

Is Kailua Kona area safe?
For those who feel they don't need to evacuate, remember the first responders who have to come after you, and youbout their lives at risk as well.
Let me guess, you're not living in an area threatened by the lava are you, that's why you get the luxury of judging those who do.
Thank you for your common sense. Some people these days are lacking it.

Yes, I was stupid in 2011 and refused to leave during a wild fire. The smoke was horrible. I vowed never again.

That's a massive collapse.
Wait a second, this broadcast is timed at 8:36 am which is the same time the earthquake occurred? I doubt it.
wjatube- the quake hit about five and a half minutes prior, at 18:30:45 UTC, according to USGS

earthquakes is the tip of the spear for more volcanic activity that is coming in bigger bangs and an unstable situation
How could a nearby earthquake cause a tsunami anyway?
I thought they had to travel and build up.
Get ready for the worst all should evacuate now!
Don't mess with my Kona Coffee Pele. Peace to my friends.

The beginning of the end of the eruption.
BOB.org The slump is ‘always’ sliding ace, that’s what it does.

Ridiculous. 4.2?! That's nothing! People love to exagerate.
David Mayhew considering we have had well over 400 and a 6.9....that “that’s nothing” is definitely something right now
