@@olechkamimi7377 Yes :) I lived in South Korea and then traveled extensively through much of southeast Asia. Very different cultures, south east Asia overall is much cheaper, and the climate is also much more tropical over in Asia. It depends what you're looking for I guess!
I think I could live in any one of these cities. Mexico is a treasure on our southern border, but most U.S. people are clueless or ill inform about it. The food, the people and the scenery are all wonderful. CDMX reminds of Samuel Johnson’s comment about London. “When a man (or woman) is tired of Mexico City, he/she is tired of life, for there is in Mexico City all that life can afford.”
I agree Mexico City has everything and close: museums, huge malls, green parks, forests, lakes, skyscrapers, palaces, pyramids, arqueological zones, the only castle in the Americas, nightlife, food, culture, arts, nearby colorful towns, 4 hours by car you have the two oceans or 45 minutes by plane (Atlantic and pacific), 2 hours by plane you have jungle or desert. Connection to many cities in the USA, Canada, Europe, Asia and Latin America and about to grow with a new airport in construction.I love life in Mexico City.
You’re probably the first expat who I heard put so much emphasis on nightlife. Perhaps it’s a testament to your younger age. As you know, most expats are retired older folks so Ajijic and San Miguel de Allende are on top of their lists. It’s refreshing to hear about your list.

I recommend visiting the city of Orizaba in the State of Veracruz, considered the cleanest and most orderly city in Latin America, it's safe and has the name of "pueblo mágico" and is by far the cheapest of all.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge about Mexico. There's lot to learn about the history and culture of Mexico - it is very rich. Not many of us know how to enjoy travel and the people. I cannot eat enough to enjoy all the food, but I enjoy the experiences with the people - love to meet all kinds of excellent people.
I've been to Mexico once and I went to Guadalajara, but mostly I was on the north side of Lago de Chapala, in and around Ajijic. The area is stunning, and a lot of expats live there, but sadly you can't swim in the lake, as it's too polluted. I also took a trip to Guanajuato with my Mexican friend (whom I was visiting), and it was so beautiful and vibrant!
I'll be moving to Puebla in January, but if I had to choose another place to live, it would be Querétaro. It's such a unique place. I felt so safe, comfortable, it was super laid back with such a great family friendly vibe. I definitely will be returning to explore even more once I get down there! 🥰

While there are other channels now that I really enjoy watching, your work is still the authoritative source for me w.r.t. anything I want to know about Mexico. Why is that? You're just one person in the end? It's because when you speak of this culture that you have dedicated to, that you enjoy so much, your eyes shine with such brilliance (even after 4+ years!) - I know that you are truly so in love with Mexico and it's culture that I can't help smiling and sharing your joy for it. I totally get it because people have told me I have the same for Japan. Thank you very much for your contribution to all of us Mexico appreciators. Being originally from a part of the world which can barely put Mexico on a map, it's truly thanks to you and the work of others like you that I have developed a deep desire to keep going back to Mexico and discover more and more about this wonderful country.

I am surprised San Miguel De Allende is not mentioned. The weather is perfect, food is very good, a little high on rentals but the town is beautiful. Bar scene, the restaurants are Plentiful, very clean city. Small town feel
Like I say in the video, it's a totally biased list of my favorite places and San Miguel just isn't one of my favorites. I understand why people love it, but it's just not for me :)
I still need to get to Campeche and Aguascalientes. I was supposed to go to Aguascalientes in April, but had to postpone the trip. Maybe in a few months or early next year!
@@laura-bronner Campeche is like Merida but near the ocean, smaller and with a pretty boardwalk, very secure as Merida, try the "empanadas de cazón" right in the market just in front of " el fuerte". Aguascalientes is more developed but still small, clean and secure. Try the "Jardin San Marcos" the "Jicaletas" and visit the Exedra park and "El merendero San Marcos" it is a must. Safe travels!

Eternal Expat When we visited Mexico City we just loved it so much so maybe there! But we also want to explore and visit the Guanajuato area and Merida for sure! Michael has also been to Oaxaca and really loved it. We just love Mexico. It’s such an amazing country. 😁
I have been to Mexico only once, Puerto Vallarta. When I was in the Army on a tour overseas, I met a Mexican who was in the US Army. I still keep in touch with him, and he wants me to go with him to his home in Oaxaca. I think I will. Cheers.

Oops, you forgot my home city, Aguascalientes. Lovely, safe, clean, prospering and yet mellow...and few, if any, tourists! Yet I hope the word doesn’t get out on how perfect Aguascalientes is.
I love San Cristobal de las Casas. You can not only feel but live the history of the place. The climate is perfect. It's a jumping off pump to Central America. It's urban, but it still feels like a small town. I love the cobblestone streets and charming houses. Lots of great day trips you can take, including the Lagos de Montebello, Palenque, waterfalls. It's lush and green and relatively clean. Despite getting lots of tourists, it feels uniquely Mexican. If you like museums, it might not be your place, but if you like nature, it's wonderful.
We enjoyed a nine-day colonial cities tour in 2015 and visited several of the places you mentioned. Oaxaca, Puebla, Mexico City, Queretaro, Guanajuato, and Mexico City were among them. I absolutely loved Oaxaca and Puebla. We did not spend enough time in Queretaro to really get a feel for it. Mexico City is way too big for me. The thing I remember about Guanajuato was walking up Lord only knows how many steps to get to the mummy museum! That city is beautiful, but it is too hilly for us. The trip was one I will always remember, and I hope to revisit some of our favorites some day. Also, we spent three weeks in Merida in 2017 and two weeks in Merida and Progresso several years before. I love Merida, but like you, I find it too hot for my tastes! Thank you for sharing the informative video. I enjoyed it.
Playa del Carmen is not real Mexico ;) Too touristic... Im living there right now, it’s pretty, but the vibe is not the best, too hot the whole year, is good for a while, but it’s not Mexico..., Oaxaca, and that cities are much better, better vibes! 🌷
Thank you!!! This is the first video of yours that I've seen and I fully expected to see cities in the Yucatán. I was presently surprised to see 'real' Mexican cities, not ones that have been taken over by foreign tourists. CDMX-The BEST!!!! I found Guanajuato to be too maze-like. If you haven't visited Aguascalientes, it is very underrated. It has some of the best museums and the weather was not too hot in the summer.
Love watching videos of places to go see in life! I’ve been to a few of these places you mention. Definitely Mex City is the best I’ve been to. So many things to do and see nearby! San Miguel de Allende is something to go to if you haven’t yet, amazing there! Also try and see as many Pueblo Mágicos as possible, they are incredible!
I would like to live in Puerto Vallarta. Because of the beautiful beaches and the warm climate that the city has in general, as well as the gastronomy, also that there are different tourist spots near the city that can be reached easily
hello from Yucatan. I like to agree with you, Mexico City is a fantastic place. Having left it for a period of time, after returning for 2 weeks, I developed a wheeze, which to my surprise, I only noticed after re watching a video i posted here. The only thing I can say negative about CDMX is the pollution, and what it does to one's lungs, and the fact that it is in an earthquake zone (as it was built on a lakebed) .Putting these aside, it is a fantastic place! (X CDMX resident). Museums, restaurants, fantastic shops, neighborhoods, (Polanco, Condesa, Zone Esmeralda (in the mountains surrounding the city) ..great people etc etc etc! I could write much more but I would run out of space here ha!

As a resident of Guanajuato I would like to add that for a small city there are MANY cultural events, museums, not to mention the largest and longest international arts festival in the Americas- Cerventino, every year in October. Especially cool are the frequent free movies outside on the iconic university steps.
Don't forget about all the international artists that visit the Festival as well. The show that the group of dancers from New Zealand did a couple of years ago was incredible!
I live in Queretaro, I love it, I used to live in CDMX. It's way different, Queretaro is growing a lot lately been here for 5 years now, it's great, though CDMX is a giant city with waaay more activity, CDMX activity is like NY. You'll need a car to move around Queretaro, if you live in CDMX you will find many ways to travel, including metro, buses, bicycles, etc.

Zacatecas , chapala and San Miguel de Allende. The best places to live in my opinión.. Vallarta, cabo San Lucas and Cancun have the best airport connection to many countries...

I mexican would never consider moving to TJ hahaha. You really have to check the top 10 listed in this video, they are far better than TJ, actually, I don't think TJ would make top 30 for any mexican (except for the food, TJ could be top 3 on food)

Having the ability to fly anywhere in Mexico, or the world for that matter, and being able to walk across to SD beats any of these cities. Although I have to admit, history and culture are more abundant further in to Mexico's heartland. :) Viva Tijuana!

I have not been to La Paz or Merida, but they are good choices from what I know. I like Puerto Vallarta best, but also like Guanajuato and Huatulco, also.
Mexico is full of beautiful places to live .It really just comes down on what you are looking for. Small Town ,Large City.Near the Ocean or Inland ,or Colonial .The Weather ,I'm surprised San Miguel de Allende and Ajijic / lake Chapala were not on your list. But like you mentioned this is your opinion so I understand.
Been coming to Mexico and living on and off for 16 years and ended up living full-time in Bucerias in the Riviera Nayarit just north of Puerto Vallarta.
By the way if you love really fancy living, and you have over US $1MM to get an AMAZING home you can start looking at Santa Fe, Bosques de las Lomas , Pedregal de San Ángel, Lomas de Chapultepec and Polanco (which is more in the center, a lot of activity and convenience). I'm talkin about $ 10MM+ pesos Real Estate.

I think more pedestrian roads in the centro would be so much better, it's tough to walk around there usually with all the foot traffic as well as the buses zooming past. I definitely love Merida and would love to visit during the cooler winter months to get a better idea of the climate.

Merida should be a perfect city to Live, specially because of all the beautiful Beaches like Tulum, personally being a Beach lover, I could go to beach and explore the cenotes in a matter of minutes, not to mention de Riviera Maya, Cancun and the amazing pyramids of the Mayas. God Willing Merida will be my future home state.
It's SO beautiful, I really love it there. I was hoping to get back there at some point this year, but I'm not sure how possible that will be. Something to look forward to in 2021!
Laura, I have visited many places in Mexico since the 80's. I have been to Mexico City twice and I did have a good time. I enjoy Mexican soccer very much and my favorite team is Club America. I have seen them play Chivas from Guadalajara twice in el Estadio Azteca. I have also gone to Guadalajara and seen the same teams play there twice. Since I love the beaches of Jalisco and Nayarit. If I had a choice of a BIG city, I would live in Guadalajara. But Puerto Vallarta is still my town of choice! Thanks!
Yes Mexico City blew me away I called it the New York City of Mexico! It was alarming that my phone told me that the smog was a health risk each and every day for months. But I still loved it stayed in the historic Center.
Mexico City is fabulous, I agree. So many authors and artists who were not Mexicans spent a decade of their lives there and that ought to tell you something .
I love your reviews and agree with you on most of your choices. I especially like P.V. and spend summers there now - been going there since it was a small village, but it never lost it's charm esp. in the Romantic District where I stay. I also like Huatulco, but it's kind of small, but amazing beaches for sure. And Guanajuato was amazing and it's great esp. in the summer.
ONLY in Guanajuato I had a huge SUV and parking is difficult in Centro and the tunnels a bit intimidating until you get used to them, but I love having my car to travel in Mex.

Parents are discouraged from any discipline and the state can take away the children for those that discipline. It might be encouraged to take away privileges. Apparently, there's some bullying that still takes place in schools, because there's no attempt to monitor or punish children for anything at all. Yes, our house is two stories. It is difficult to raise children in the United States.
In reference to the hate comments :Criticism and personal options should be respected, but us Mexicans are extremely patriotic and therefore sensible to criticism even if constructive, even if what others say about our country is true.

Two cities i would not go to .The expats have driven up the prices.Been going to Mexico since the 60,s. Prefer Oaxaca area .

Cool Video! Thanks I have been all over Mex 26 Years. Cancun wasn’t on my list either because it was new but Culture is finally evolved there. I’ve lived in Holbox, & Tulum, Puerto Morelos. Hard to compete with amazing water parks and turquoise water. But more history in the pueblos you described. Good job 👏

Oops, you forgot my home city, Aguascalientes. Lovely, safe, clean, prospering and yet mellow...and few, if any, tourists! Yet I hope the word doesn’t get out on how perfect Aguascalientes is.

I love San Cristobal de las Casas. You can not only feel but live the history of the place. The climate is perfect. It's a jumping off pump to Central America. It's urban, but it still feels like a small town. I love the cobblestone streets and charming houses. Lots of great day trips you can take, including the Lagos de Montebello, Palenque, waterfalls. It's lush and green and relatively clean. Despite getting lots of tourists, it feels uniquely Mexican. If you like museums, it might not be your place, but if you like nature, it's wonderful.
You said no traffic in Guadalajara ?? Traffic there is insane! I know I lived there, but hey beautiful city!
We enjoyed a nine-day colonial cities tour in 2015 and visited several of the places you mentioned. Oaxaca, Puebla, Mexico City, Queretaro, Guanajuato, and Mexico City were among them. I absolutely loved Oaxaca and Puebla. We did not spend enough time in Queretaro to really get a feel for it. Mexico City is way too big for me. The thing I remember about Guanajuato was walking up Lord only knows how many steps to get to the mummy museum! That city is beautiful, but it is too hilly for us. The trip was one I will always remember, and I hope to revisit some of our favorites some day. Also, we spent three weeks in Merida in 2017 and two weeks in Merida and Progresso several years before. I love Merida, but like you, I find it too hot for my tastes! Thank you for sharing the informative video. I enjoyed it.
I live in Playa del Carmen and it's amazing. The best expat community I've lived in so far. Also been an expat for 10years all over the world.

Playa del Carmen is not real Mexico ;) Too touristic... Im living there right now, it’s pretty, but the vibe is not the best, too hot the whole year, is good for a while, but it’s not Mexico..., Oaxaca, and that cities are much better, better vibes! 🌷
Thank you!!! This is the first video of yours that I've seen and I fully expected to see cities in the Yucatán. I was presently surprised to see 'real' Mexican cities, not ones that have been taken over by foreign tourists. CDMX-The BEST!!!! I found Guanajuato to be too maze-like. If you haven't visited Aguascalientes, it is very underrated. It has some of the best museums and the weather was not too hot in the summer.
Love watching videos of places to go see in life! I’ve been to a few of these places you mention. Definitely Mex City is the best I’ve been to. So many things to do and see nearby!
San Miguel de Allende is something to go to if you haven’t yet, amazing there! Also try and see as many Pueblo Mágicos as possible, they are incredible!

Because of the beautiful beaches and the warm climate that the city has in general, as well as the gastronomy, also that there are different tourist spots near the city that can be reached easily
Guanajuato is the Italian hill town of Mexico. It’s just gorgeous. Mexico City is so vibrant and beautiful.
I bus in to CDMX often, alone. SOON I will come with 3 Queretanos who have NEVER been there!
hello from Yucatan. I like to agree with you, Mexico City is a fantastic place. Having left it for a period of time, after returning for 2 weeks, I developed a wheeze, which to my surprise, I only noticed after re watching a video i posted here. The only thing I can say negative about CDMX is the pollution, and what it does to one's lungs, and the fact that it is in an earthquake zone (as it was built on a lakebed) .Putting these aside, it is a fantastic place! (X CDMX resident). Museums, restaurants, fantastic shops, neighborhoods, (Polanco, Condesa, Zone Esmeralda (in the mountains surrounding the city) ..great people etc etc etc! I could write much more but I would run out of space here ha!

As a resident of Guanajuato I would like to add that for a small city there are MANY cultural events, museums, not to mention the largest and longest international arts festival in the Americas- Cerventino, every year in October. Especially cool are the frequent free movies outside on the iconic university steps.
Don't forget about all the international artists that visit the Festival as well. The show that the group of dancers from New Zealand did a couple of years ago was incredible!

Had a condo in Cancun for 15 yrs [1988 to 2003] now i prefer Huatulco ,oaxaca ].
I live in Queretaro, I love it, I used to live in CDMX. It's way different, Queretaro is growing a lot lately been here for 5 years now, it's great, though CDMX is a giant city with waaay more activity, CDMX activity is like NY. You'll need a car to move around Queretaro, if you live in CDMX you will find many ways to travel, including metro, buses, bicycles, etc.

I mexican would never consider moving to TJ hahaha. You really have to check the top 10 listed in this video, they are far better than TJ, actually, I don't think TJ would make top 30 for any mexican (except for the food, TJ could be top 3 on food)

Having the ability to fly anywhere in Mexico, or the world for that matter, and being able to walk across to SD beats any of these cities. Although I have to admit, history and culture are more abundant further in to Mexico's heartland. :) Viva Tijuana!

I have not been to La Paz or Merida, but they are good choices from what I know. I like Puerto Vallarta best, but also like Guanajuato and Huatulco, also.
Mexico is full of beautiful places to live .It really just comes down on what you are looking for. Small Town ,Large City.Near the Ocean or Inland ,or Colonial .The Weather ,I'm surprised San Miguel de Allende and Ajijic / lake Chapala were not on your list. But like you mentioned this is your opinion so I understand.
Been coming to Mexico and living on and off for 16 years and ended up living full-time in Bucerias in the Riviera Nayarit just north of Puerto Vallarta.

By the way if you love really fancy living, and you have over US $1MM to get an AMAZING home you can start looking at Santa Fe, Bosques de las Lomas
, Pedregal de San Ángel, Lomas de Chapultepec and Polanco (which is more in the center, a lot of activity and convenience).

Great video. I live in Mérida an love it. Come this winter and you will enjoy weather. Centro is changing a lot due pandemic for The best. More only pedestrian streets, more trees.
I think more pedestrian roads in the centro would be so much better, it's tough to walk around there usually with all the foot traffic as well as the buses zooming past. I definitely love Merida and would love to visit during the cooler winter months to get a better idea of the climate.

Merida should be a perfect city to Live, specially because of all the beautiful Beaches like Tulum, personally being a Beach lover, I could go to beach and explore the cenotes in a matter of minutes, not to mention de Riviera Maya, Cancun and the amazing pyramids of the Mayas. God Willing Merida will be my future home state.

Laura, I have visited many places in Mexico since the 80's. I have been to Mexico City twice and I did have a good time. I enjoy Mexican soccer very much and my favorite team is Club America. I have seen them play Chivas from Guadalajara twice in el Estadio Azteca. I have also gone to Guadalajara and seen the same teams play there twice. Since I love the beaches of Jalisco and Nayarit. If I had a choice of a BIG city, I would live in Guadalajara. But Puerto Vallarta is still my town of choice! Thanks!

Yes Mexico City blew me away I called it the New York City of Mexico! It was alarming that my phone told me that the smog was a health risk each and every day for months. But I still loved it stayed in the historic Center.

I love your reviews and agree with you on most of your choices. I especially like P.V. and spend summers there now - been going there since it was a small village, but it never lost it's charm esp. in the Romantic District where I stay. I also like Huatulco, but it's kind of small, but amazing beaches for sure. And Guanajuato was amazing and it's great esp. in the summer.
ONLY in Guanajuato I had a huge SUV and parking is difficult in Centro and the tunnels a bit intimidating until you get used to them, but I love having my car to travel in Mex.

@@mortissupercellbufeame2531 The schools do not provide discipline anymore (ancient history they used to do that). Parents are discouraged from any discipline and the state can take away the children for those that discipline. It might be encouraged to take away privileges. Apparently, there's some bullying that still takes place in schools, because there's no attempt to monitor or punish children for anything at all. Yes, our house is two stories. It is difficult to raise children in the United States.
The state of Oaxaca is the ultimate for me! I hope to expat there some day!
