This version of the anthem was made specially for the 1976 Olympics in Montreal and it was arranged by Victor Vogel (and I have to agree with many, it's probably the best arrangement ever of O Canada)
Start at the Pacific, end somewhere in the Maritimes or Newfoundland: this is a cool flight across the continent, with recognizable terrain and buildings... I like it, a lot.
@@usaskjock I particularly like how a lot of Quebec features/landmarks are portrayed. Montreal (with the St. Joseph Oratory, the Biosphere and the port clearly visible), the maple forests, Quebec City (Château Frontenac) and Gaspésie (Percé Rock).
That answer my doubts on where was the direction of the shooting of the film! (Pacific coast - Atlantic coast) Also, I unofficially call this National Anthem Film "A Mare Usque ad Mare" (which is in theme with the general theme of it and also the motto that appears on the Coat of Arms of Canada)
You're right - the network would play it both at the end of the broadcast day as well as the start of each morning before they shifted to a 24x7 operation.
Maybe nostalgia plays a role - I remember repeatedly watching this sign-off in the '90s as a teenager in the family basement, usually having smoked a joint and having watched something good on the CBC. I'm no nationalist. To my mind, though, it's a brilliant animated sequence, and probably the best instrumental rendition of the anthem I've heard. I especially love the dramatic flourishes in the last few bars. The fact that I continue to look it up every so often bears testimony to the quality of this production, I think.
When I used to spend my summers in Maine, they had CKSH Ch. 9 on the cable system. This was the anthem they always used at both sign off and sign on each day.
this is the VERY BEST arrangement of O Canada...hands down. THe only thing that even comes close...is the VSO TAKE #2 of the anthem...for the 2010 Olympics.
The VSO and David Foster have worked a lot together including the Millennium version of OCan ft Lara Fabian on vocal. NTV Newfoundland uses that one before the CTV national news
As a child I remember seeing this early morning as the broadcast started on one of the two or three channels we could pick up with our "rabbit ears" antenna.
CKY TV used the Michael Mills Productions O Canada national anthem film for their sign off/ sign on from 1983 until 1992 (my mom remembers seeing this back in the early 80s)
Love the way they snuck Tom Thomsons painting in there. But ironic they show brief glimpse of Toronto and Montreal and Quebec City but not Ottawa/Parliament buildings
O Canada! Our home and native land! True patriot love in all of us command. With glowing hearts we see thee rise, The True North strong and free! From far and wide, O Canada, we stand on guard for thee. God keep our land glorious and free! O Canada, we stand on guard for thee. O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!

I was just randomly on CZcams and got a Captain Newfoundland recommendation and was like “what the hell I haven’t seen this in forever” at least 25 to 30 years. The randomly remembered this animated sign off and was telling my wife about it. Was looking and looking for it and then my wife was like let me try and within 2 minutes finds it and was like “ is this it”? and I scream “ YES IT IS “and we sit and watch and just smile. Good memories from when I was a kid in Newfoundland with a big old wooden tv and rabbit ears. Good memories🙂
There is indeed a version of "O Canada" made in 1952 by the celebrated Evelyn Lambart, but the version posted I've posted is accurately credited to Michael Miills Productions and was transferred directly from a 3/4" U-Matic tape of their Demo Reel. There are also landmarks glimpsed in the animation such as the TD Tower in Vancouver (built in 1972), Toronto's CN Tower (1976), and the Montreal Biosphere (1967) all obviously built long after 1952.
I think this was made in 1983. I'm no Canadian, but I saw a comment saying that statement.

I am an hardcore Québec independantist but this is as close as I can get to being canadian. The last time I checked Canada was officially bilingual and independent. Enjoys an abundant of freedoms and liberties, so you Quebecers are independent. Perhaps a trip to North Korea is in order to wake you up. As an independent country you would suffer economically, have a weak currency, just to name a few. But that’s what happens when you live in a shell can’t comprehend the bigger picture.
