  • Becoming intolerant to gluten is a common food sensitivity that can worsen or develop during menopause. This week I explain why women can become sensitive to gluten at this time, the signs of gluten intolerance, and foods to avoid or limit if gluten is becoming a problem food group.

I found that after I went into menopause I became gluten intolerant. No doctor helped me, I did a query on the internet to find what was causing diaherria and came up with wheat. slowly I became gluten free afterr I found that answer. Once I tried to make biscuits using only rice flour to sub in for wheat and found I'd made the best hockey pucks that ever a person n could make in their kitchen.
Slowly over the last 22 years I've learned much.
I want to thank you for this presentation as it confirmed what happened to me back when I entered menopause.
    Thanks!

I had this happen years ago. I have to read everything. You also need to think about how it’s processed. Typically, if it says it was produced in a factory that also processes wheat…I can’t have it. You also need to be careful of cross contamination in your own kitchen if your family eats gluten. Trust me, it’s a huge undertaking. I am used to it now, so it’s just second nature. I also don’t miss the gluten foods at all. I stay away from the processed gluten free foods since I try to eat more whole foods.

It's definitely a pain having to read everything but gluten can be 'hidden' in so many foods! I still get horrified, even now, when I go shopping!

Great video and I agree these daily habits can change our life. The two that changed my life the most are meditation and switching my phone off a hour before I go to sleep.

Gave up wheat/dairy years ago. Now having issues, think it's the ryvita. Am underweight it's a struggle. Finally going to allergy clinic and hopefully hypnotherapy for IBS

      Hi R B
Hope the allergy clinic and hypnosis help you. Ryvita contains gluten so this may also be a trigger for you. You may find a plant based protein powder can help with the weight; your local health store should be able to give you advice on this.

I developed a gluten intolerance with an additional problem with rice and potato. I started off just eating whole foods with most of my carbohydrates coming from vegetables. I am trying to find alternatives for my sweet tooth

      Hi Dawn
Maybe try Medjool dates. Because they are very high in fibre, they are known to release fruit sugars very slowly so don't give you a quick blood sugar hike. They are my 'go to' if I need a sweet fix and as they are a lot bigger than normal dates, I find two are enough!
