your head naturally sheds hair everyday that you don't notice, but with dreads the hair stays together even after it's shed. so the hair coming out like this is normal.

This is more breakage than shedding because remember to actually comb a loc out you have to actually break through the hairs because the locs strengthen over time, the stronger and more matted the strand is the more it’ll break as you get through the hairs to comb it out

I find most success is with a crochet hook picking slowly up the loc in a downward motion. After it gets about 1/2" out I run coconut oil through it. It lets the hair slip without causing the hair to saturated and become vulnerable/elastic. Combing out dry with coconut oil is always best. I didn't loose any length and my hair was to my lower back.

Honestly ik im pretty late to this but i've tried to get people to understand. Yes you can prevent more hair from breaking off, but locs are just a collection of hair that's already potentially broken and hair thats just clumped up and matted (whole point of locs lmao) So either way when you do this method, its bound to lose A LOT of hair. Trust me my boyfriend doesnt even wanna attempt to brush his out cause it took us 10 hours to comb out 3 locs

Please soak your locs before combing them out.
I recommend hot/warm grapeseed oil, Shea butter and coconut oil..

You need to drench the dread in hemectant conditioner like kera care which is a professional brand and then try to comb it out witha wide tooth comb, the dread comb or rattail comb.
