Hoyo knows how to make tragic stories. It's really good to see well-written characters getting some backstory, BUT WHY HOYO, WHY TAKE IT TO THIS LEVEL 😭

Oof, that's a tough question 😭 You definitely don't need Ruan Mei to play Firefly, but she's really good at increasing Break/Super Break DMG. It's hard not to recommend her over Firefly. If you really want Firefly or simply don't like Ruan Mei, you could go for Pela instead, but the damage output won't be as good. You could also wait for a new Break support character, but there's no way to know when Hoyo plans to release one.
She's really good and works on any team composition! She gives a lot of damage bonuses, SPD, and Resistance Penetration for your team. Break bonuses are still useful since breaking enemies increases the damage they receive. Wish you the best of luck on your pulls and hope you can get both of them! 🫡

Should I go for ruan mei first or firefly?
I rlly like firefly's character but I'm struggling without Ruan mei-💀
