- I'm excited to hit the trail with my new Ibis DV9 so I can see if a lighter bike really makes a difference. We're visiting family in Utah so we decided to take to the tails at Corner Canyon in Draper, Utah.

I just built up a DV9 myself that is quite similar to your build. Fox 34 SC 120mm, I9 Hydras, Eagle GX, Fox Transfer dropper, 2.6 tires, I9 A35 stem, and Chris King headset and BB. The bike is a beast and its about 2 lbs lighter than my last hardtail. Such a sweet bike.

I have the small dv9 for 6 months now with the 2.6" tires and fox34. It only has room for 1 water bottle, 2 full water bottles weigh more than your entire frame. I have yet to have the front wash out as it runs different tread for the front than rear. It is great to have the entire frame under 10% of the bike. Have fun and don't forget to "stand up and dance that hardtail".

I am so glad to hear that other people name their bikes. My very first mountain bike's name was King Julien - named after the character from the movie, Madagascar because it liked to "Move it! Move it!". He was a Specialized Fuse 6Fattie. I named my new MTB after the same character in an effort to pay tribute to my first mountain bike, only this time I'm giving it one of the nicknames King Julien had - Banana Guy Mike. My kids and I call him BG Mike for short.
My road bike's name is Desiree.
I think in order for us to help you come up with a name for your bike, we need to know if it's a boy or a girl.

I definitely agree on the weight for lighter riders! I'm 5'2" and around 110, so moving from my 3.0 plus tire aluminum hardtail that rode the line between xc and trail too, to my Transition Throttle with 27.5 x 2.6 tires was an absolute dream! I can finesse up tech climbs more now instead of monster truck being about the only option, and the first corner I threw it into - That's what I'd been trying to get my bike to do for 2+ yrs!! Both Fun bikes, but I found the sweet spot for me :)

I really like the bike and am looking into getting one myself. You mention in the middle of the video that you couldnt adjust the brake lever all brake levers are adjustable and on this model there is a allen screw sticking out behind the brake lever which takes a 2mm allen key if i remember correctly. That screw will allow you to bring in out the brake lever.

I've never been a 29er fan, but my Bronson is just too sluggish on traversing trails, so I picked up a 120/130mm 29er. The difference in momentum is insane. Don't worry about turning/cornering. It only takes about a week before you totally forget you're on bigger wheels. The Brony is pretty much a shuttle day, and bike park, bike now. :)
Took me a bit to get used to my el mariachi when I got it. 6 years later I really like it.

Thanks for the awesome review! You make me want to buy this bike! How much does your bike weigh now? At 5’7” & 120-25 lbs. (and coming from a road racing background), I appreciate a lighter bike but also want one that is responsive yet forgiving enough for a MTB newbie on the descents. Not planning on much technical riding, but I do live in CO so will be doing lots of climbing and descending.
This is what i was looking for a year ago as far as my first real mountain bike .A hartail 29er that i can put out some miles , climb and be able to handle descents . The bike is a lower end of the market and its a bit heavy . I added some bigger tires and a dropper post which added more weight but gave the bike more capability . My next bike will probably be another upgraded hardtail or I may upgrade this bike as it only has a 10 speed drive train which is good for most I do on my trails but those longer duration climbs a 12 speed would be beneficial but I have to say this bike made me stronger and faster Not having those bigger cogs . It is interesting your thought of a heavier bike being better in a chunkier terrain and holding the ground better . I never thought about that and makes sense where a lighter bike could get away from you

I know the opposite feeling, I have a 34lbs aluminum full suspension bike and I weight 160lbs. My riding buddy has a hardtail weighing 25, he's 240 and mostly muscles. Guess who's faster?

It took me age's to adjust to a 29er, heaps more grip and you can lean them more
Looking at buying one this weekend. Currently own a squish 2020 stance 1 29er. Looking to get back into a hardtail. Would you say this is an more complaint head tube angle hardtail? I don’t ride really aggressive but do occasionally rip and need to jump it and descend fast. Would you recommend it.

How much does it weigh? When the build is totally done, will it be even lighter?

Good you can afford such a bike. Would be nice to see videos of bike rides with the more affordable bikes for women getting into mountain biking.
Your tires seem soooo much quieter than his, funny how much of a difference there was.
2.35 vs 3.0 tires make a big difference sound wise.

I have the 2019 Giant Talon 2 ($800) I plan on swapping the 100mm coil fork for a 120mm air fork and getting some better peddles but as is it's already a great xc bike.

The Diva is the name--it's a good riff off of the DV9 but it's totally wrong for the bike's manners, so it's surprising too.
Weight/Rider yes huge variable ! Shocks f & r, momentum . . ...tire pressures . . ..weight of rider impacts everything-
