      Ok? But every football fan knows the offensive line is the most important position group in football. They get recognition for good play from QBs and RBs. I played CB and FS myself and even I can acknowledge the game doesnt work without linemen, and you cant win a single game without your oline doibg SOMETHING for you

      Alex Charles I actually think Colin is right to an extent. With offensive players that aren't lineman, you can pull up like 40 individual stats that judge how good or efficient or whatever they are. For a defender, you have to take the word of a person you're arguing against that they're great in man or zone coverage and that they always fill the right gap in a running play or whatever, because you don't have statistics for successful a gaps closed.

    • @Way2Clutch39
      @Way2Clutch39 Před 6 lety +6

      Daniel Daw or you can watch them and see for yourself. If he covers a man to the point that the qb doesn't even throw on that side of the field, thats proof. Watch him fill the A gap. I can tell you that this guy is a great runner but until you watch him run you wouldn't know either.

    • @Hater20X
      @Hater20X Před 6 lety +1

      It's harder to take notice because people love action. A great defensive player doing his job well will get very little action because he's stopping his man on every play. Like Ray said you have to take as a defensive player. If you want to be in the highlights you have to get diving interceptions of a ball that wasn't ment for you and run it in for 6. Or a fumble whatever. Even 3 and slot receivers have it easier for highlights because even they get chances at TDs

    Ray Lewis is right on the money. In 2000, everybody knew that Ray was the best player in the NFL. He was Defensive Player of the Year, the leader of one of the most dominant defenses in NFL history, and led the Ravens to a 12-4 record despite having a mediocre-at-best offense. And yet he only got one MVP vote that year.

      Think about William the refrigerator Perry. Defensive player. But all these years later, we talk about him, from maybe the best defense in the entire history of the sport, because of a few offensive highlights. The idea that hall of famers were on that team and the person people gravitated most on the national level for a period was Perry because he played FB or caught a pass is just exasperating.

      Because the award isn't about team wins, it's about an individual player's value to his particular team. I argue that players that get hurt and then their once mighty teams take visible steps backward, like when JJ Watt goes down for the Texans or Derek Carr goes down for the Raiders, truly show their value and deserve the award than the popularity contest it has turned into.

    IMO, the best players in the league are on the defensive side of the ball, because the Offense has every single advantage & Defensive players still find a way to make plays & dominate.
    Von Miller, Luke Kuechely, Patrick Peterson, JJ Watt, Richard Sherman, Aaron Donald, Aqib Talib & guys like that are more impressive than the offensive players that have the rules slanted in their favor.

    • @QDJW
      @QDJW Před 7 lety +41

      Defensive linemen have the advantage over o linemen. The only think o linemen have is when the ball is going to be snapped. But even then defensive line men are faster and quicker which is why o linemen focus on feet. The oline is restricted to putting their hands in about a 15in area. Defensive linemen have no such restrictions except for the face mask which applies to everyone any way.

      I don't know about advantages. You play a team that you have scouting reports on that run the same scheme for as long as the Offensive coordinator has and vice versa. Offensive lineman are the most over looked position in the game. Why? Cause we block all day long. D linemen get the glory and fame with a big hit or tackle for loss like J.J watt. But have an o lineman stop J.J watt all game and you hear nothing. Cowboys o linemen are a great example. Ezekiel wouldn't be as dominant with out them. And I am a raiders fan by the way

    The NFL has handicapped the defense everyway possible outside of just removing them from the field. I hate Tom Brady. He's not the best to ever play his position. He just benefited from all the rule changes ( The Tuck rule and hitting a QB below the knees ) and Bill Polian and the Colts crying because his receivers weren't good enough to get off the line ( Against the Patriots ). 300 yard passing games used to mean something. Dan Marino's 5000 yards passing in one season was a record that stood for over 30 years. Now Drew Brees not only broke his record but he has thrown for 5000 yards for numerous seasons. The game is watered down. There are way to many penalties. No more hard hits. Its a shame because people like myself who really love this game have seen what the league has done and are saddened by this.

    • @stevencocky19

      100% agree. Defense has been hobbled. Hits allowed 10-15 years ago would have been fines + suspensions nowadays. People need to just understand it's a violent sport when you get to that level, no matter what injuries will happen.

      I admit that I've enjoyed watching guys like Brees put on an offensive show, but lately watching high-powered offenses has gotten kinda boring. I've barely even cared enough to watch Raiders, Falcons, Packers, or Patriots highlights for the past few weeks.
      But even with the league being more offense friendly, defenses are somehow still thriving. S48 saw the Legion of Boom manhandle the Broncos supposed greatest offense in NFL history lead by Peyton Manning and S50 saw Cam Newton getting swarmed by the No Fly Zone. Probably goes to show that no matter how much the rules change to favor the offense more, defenses will still find a way to pull through

    I feel like its not only harder to grade defensive players, but defense is also more of a unit and relies on all of its players, which makes it harder to pick one as the MVP of the whole league. Whilst on offense one player can carry the whole offense and do well, even if the rest of their offense is bad

    LMAO Norman is better than ObJ? Guy waddled in relative obscurity until last year and now he's some great player? I watched plenty of Carolina games before last year and there were QBS TORCHING that secondary with regularity. Teams putting up yards and points like no tommorow through the air. Norman needs a particular system and of course the surrounding peices to be what he was and he still isn't on Peterson, Sherman, Harris, Talib or Revis league.

    Defensive players dont win MVP for a few reasons. They dont accrue stats the same way, which makes them harder to compare. They are judged as a unit more frequently. It is very difficult for an individual defensive player to take over a game like a quarterback or running back can.

    Defense should get points and the game would change. People would love Defense.
    3 & Out = 1
    Sacks = 2
    Interceptions = 3
    Goal line stand = 4
    Safety = 5
    While game would change. Defense would be Heroes and super stars. Why has no one ever thought of this. I'm a genius. Lol

  • @MrBlue-ge4yv
    @MrBlue-ge4yv Před 6 lety +1

    Defense is a lot harder to play and a lot more pressure is on them. The defense also can’t afford to make mistakes unlike the offense. The offense can go 3 and out and it’s ok cuz our defense will get us back the ball. But if the defense makes a mistake and doesn’t do their job it’s a touchdown. The offense knows the play. The defense has to react to the play. Defense rarely gets glory and highlights. All the cool and spectacular plays are on offense-with a few exceptions of course. All-in-all defense wins championships so there you go.

    Kuechly is the only player IMO that could've thrived back in the day. Zach Thomas type player, with more speed and coverage ability. An expert at getting to the football and diagnosing plays as they happen, that kid is special. Many other positions are way too soft, and please can we cut it out with the CB discussion. There is a new great corner every year in this league apparently. Last year it was norman, year before it was butler, before that it was sherman, before that revis. CB's nowadays are so replaceable and once you start paying them big money, the other pieces start dropping off.
