For most people shooting for under an hour is a bad idea. Why not swim 1:05 or even 1:10 and save some matches. Yes you “can” swim under an hour but you’re going to add potentially 30+ minutes on the run when all those matches you’ve burnt are coming back to bite you. Unless you’re trying to hit your Ironman under 10 or even faster then what’s the point? No one wins a medal for being in the top handful out of the water.

Stick to sprint triathlons at first. Won’t take as much training an the entry fees aren’t too high (typically around £40 for local events). Try and get your riding distance up a little as you’ll need to do 20K for the event and stick in some brick session into your training to get used to running off the bike. The main thing new comers to the sport forget is that putting all 3 sports together takes practice so make sure you include transitioning from one sport to the other in training

That is not a good video, to say the least, or to stay polite... They start by saying that to swim 3.8k under an hour you will have to, at least, swim 3 times a week for a total of at least 10k. Well... if you don't easily swim 1:34/100m there is no way you will get under 60 min with so less of a volume. Than, the video just takes for granted that your technique is already fine since they say, like if it was nothing, that swimming 1:34 for 100m is a thing but to go the distance at that pace is something else... right, but you first have to be able to swim 1:34/100m for a pretty good fraction of an Ironman swim lenght to start thinking about a sub-60. The problem is: if you already swim 1:34/100m, you don't need a 10 min video to tell you what to do... you already are a good enough and experienced a swimmer to aim for such a goal. That video makes me want to do a parody of it with running just to show how absurd his content is: You want to run a sub 2:00 marathon ? Ok, so, 3 times a week, do some reps of 1 km at race pace (or around 2:50/km), then after 8 weeks increase the duration of your intervals at that pace !!! You see, that's easy !!!

I never understood how to swim quick in real life, it took me from age 19 up to age 24 to get 100m in 1.30, I had a decent improvement at age 25 when my 100m dropped to 1.18 put I could only average 1.30 per 100 for 200m . Its kind of funny when I exist the water with old people or first timers and then go on to bike 4.40 for the 180km and run 3.05 for the marathon, some people just can't swim fast for long no matter how many years they train. Gains in fitness never really did anything for my swimming because my average ironman swim is only 1.5hrs , i just can't caught my breath on the swim
