They could have gave Piccolo an actual cool form instead of a lame recolor. Fan Mangas gave a bunch better idea of him absorbing many of namekians instead of a lame recolor. Toyotaro just wanted to finish his gay recolor rainbow.

I love the idea that nemekians are tied closely to the dragon balls, so this is a transformation only namekians can receive. And the idea that you have to be found worthy would be a cool idea too. So only a nemekian that’s worked as hard as piccolo could receive it.
But that begs the question, why didn’t Namek have a couple of orange namekians on standby before Frieza came? It really doesn’t make much sense.

I'm ngl the orange form makes sense. The symbol on his back is a tree from namek, the symbol of namekian pride. And it's color scheme is orange with red accents, exactly like the dragon balls. It all ties back to his namekian origins.
it's also almost identically a sideways capsule corp logo.
Orange also like picolos skin color in this form as well as his eyes being red in this form as well.
I would also say namekians are photosynthetic plant men who are vegetative, but orange is the color of fruit or flowing vs. Green.

@@bizzaro1368 Vegeta could've just been given some God ki by his new trainers, Beerus and Whis. Which allowed him to learn to make his own. My head canon is that god ki is something that mortals can't create inherently because they don't know how or that it even exists due to them not being able to sense it.
Once they are shown how, some can produce it on their own. This is how Vegeta and Goku are able to do it without the ritual from that point on. They must have reserves for both types of ki. Otherwise, them keeping the form makes no sense. If they were unable to produce god ki, the god form would go away until they did the ritual again and got more god ki from it.
(Side thought that popped in my head while writing the first paragraph.)
What doesn't make sense to me about that is that Rose is said to be the same form as Super Saiyan Blue with 'Divine' Ki instead (???), when SS Blue needs 'god' ki in general to BE blue. You need divine/god ki (assuming they are one and the same.) to go god at all in the first place, and then super saiyan on top of that to reach SSBlue.
So what's happening here? Is divine ki different from god ki? and if so, special to the Kais? I am unaware of how they explained this.

Toyotaro, who wrote one of the worst fan Mangas under the name Toyable, wrote most of super. Super Hero had writers akin to Dragon Ball evolution writers.

I think it's interesting that people don't seem to understand that piccolo was half warrior clan and half dragon clan, I think the bonus was the perfect union of dragon and warrior, making his potential and power increase dramatically. All head cannon but make a little sense if you think about it.

Let’s be real. The Saiyans we’re getting way too far and Piccolo needed a power up to make him relevant again. As a Piccolo fan, I’m all for this, plus he’s reportedly Toriyama’s favorite character too, so it was nearly inevitable.
This would actually make a lot of sense considering they wrote the script for superhero around the time they were plotting out the moro arc

I feel like if dbz fans call orange Piccolo an ass pull, they need to reconsider literally every form that Goku and Vegeta get
It may go even deeper. In the original namek saga, the elder guru expresses shock when krillin says that a saiyan on earth beat the namekian warrior that was also sent to earth. He asks krillin “was this saiyan a super saiyan?” (Which is actually the first confirmation they exist) because he couldn’t believe it was possible to defeat “the best of their warrior breed”. Until he realizes kami split. Even after that, OG piccolo died and reincarnated. You never saw the full power of the young, complete nameless namekian that guru knew was unstoppable.

It’s also quite possible this is setting up the shadow dragon arc for super, with Shenrons power increasing and us seeing how it can make piccolo this strong, it’s possible we may get to see extremely powerful versions of the shadow dragon and maybe omega shenron

Considering what I've seen orange piccolo is far less asspull than beast Gohan in most aspect. I feel there was still a lot of thought given into the form and the thematics behind it.

i have to wonder, would the namek dragon have given him an even stronger boost and form? or what if he did it now would his orange form get even more powerful? or what about the super dragonballs? would he end up like their creator?
Really makes you wonder why they didn't do this when Freiza was killing all of them on Namek. Think that would have counted as a "great time of suffering"... Would have solved that shit very easily.
I had that exact panel on the back of my mind when I saw the wish scene. That's why it felt earned. Piccolo has more than earned himself that wish. It's something he has already earned according to Namekian culture. Beast is the less interesting out of the two transformations we got in this film.

Aaaaand Shenron is Kamiccolo's creation, so in a way Piccolo buffed himself up by using his very own creation, which explains why Shenron gave him a bit of extra sauce and why Shenron addresses Piccolo / Kami accordingly with respect in the japanese version (the same way he speaks to Beerus). It all came full circle ⭕ in this very moment, which we see on Piccolo's back during his orange transformation (circle along with the tree symbol).
I actually really like this explanation. It shows how the dragon balls were always about protecting the Namekians, and, like anything that grants good people power, are sought out by those with evil intentions.
It was never Orange Piccolo that anyone had a problem with. It was always Cell Max and Beast Gohan that people hated for being ass pulls
While Cell Max makes some sense Beast Gohan is just inexcusable other than saying “potential” over and over

Yes, Orange Piccolo was definitely the ass pull transformation in that movie, it came out of nowhere. It wasn't hinted at in the slightest earlier in the movie like Beast Gohan was.

Shenron was created by Kami. Which means the availability of this power may have lied dormant in Shenron well before the Piccolo we know even hatched. Since Kami had forgotten about his origins, I suppose Shenron's limitations are connected to it's Guardian. When Dende took over and buffed Shenron, it would seem as though the additional knowledge Dende provided passed on to Shenron. Unlocking the access of Shenron's gifts to Namekians who wished for it. If Shenron gave Piccolo this much power...then one can assume Porunga has something for Piccolo as well. As for SUPER Shenron....umm....is that thing even connected to Namekians?

Also, Piccolo used the Dragon Balls cause Dende hadn't yet reached the age to draw out a warrior's potential, which Dende's father Guru demonstrated during the Namek Saga, as Dende points out that particular Dragon Clan ability is achieved much later in life & Dende is relatively young! Fortunately, Dende thought to power up Shenron with the ability to unlock a warrior's potential, which is why Piccolo uses the Dragon Balls in the film! It's not an asspull as it was foreshadowed by Shenron's statement of adding a little extra as a bonus, hence his transformation! Piccolo is also the most powerful Namekian in the multiverse based upon his performance during the Tournament of Power! Shenron granting Piccolo his Orange Piccolo form is somewhat fitting given Piccolo is fused with Shenron's former creator Kami, who created Shenron to give the Earthlings hope after the damage caused by King Piccolo & his Demon Clan before he was sealed away by Mutaito's sacrifice! Ultimately, the Earth Dragon Balls exist due to Kami's guilt over releasing the Nameless Namekian's inner darkness on the world! Piccolo is the reincarnation of King Piccolo & is known to have inherited King Piccolo's form of Eternal Youth which allows Piccolo to remain in his physical prime indefinitely based upon the parameters of King Piccolo's original wish (to be restored to his physical prime & Piccolo matured very rapidly in the years following his birth, but stopped aging upon reaching his physical prime though his lifespan was still tied to Kami as Kami still aged naturally which is why I think Piccolo cursed his fate during the Saiyan Saga cause Kami's natural death would be the end of Piccolo which was one of the possible ways they would die as they couldn't be sure if Piccolo would die fighting the Saiyans as no one would have predicted Piccolo would sacrifice himself to protect Gohan)! Piccolo & Kami decided Piccolo would assimilate Kami as their fusion would benefit from Piccolo's eternally young body! Piccolo's birth ironically allowed Kami to survive King Piccolo's death, as he reincarnated into his own offspring thus the life link with Kami was transferred to Piccolo, which allowed Kami to resurrect Shenron who had been killed by the Demon King! Piccolo's past is full of ties to the Earth's Dragon Balls, thus him achieving Orange Piccolo with help of Shenron is fitting & fits well with Gohan's pushing past his Potential Unleashed state to Beast Gohan, as it is through having his potential unlocked by Shenron that he achieved Orange Piccolo! Orange Piccolo also symbolizes the Dragon Balls as his Orange skin like the Dragon Balls & his red eyes could be seen as a being based upon the red stars of the Earth Dragon Balls! The Orange color is also reminiscent of the Shadow Dragon Nuova Shenron who has several Piccolo like qualities & was born of King Piccolo's wish for youth which Piccolo benefits from (mind you Piccolo dies in GT to ensure the Black Star Dragon Balls become inert cause apparently Toei didn't realize that Dragon Ball sets can be powered down by their creator as that's what Dende does to the Earth's DBs in Dragon Ball Online which ignores the events of GT, which results in Piccolo still being alive by Age 1000 & unlike Dende & Moori, Piccolo shows no signs of aging)!
Orange piccolo feels like a forgotten character finally coming full circle. Beast gohan just feels like they saw the complaints about how the character that was hyped up to have so much potential when he was younger basically just stopped being useful and went "fine, here, now he's god level too because uh... an exact recreation of his ss2 moment happened. That's earned right?"
Super piccolo idea was actually put out in the world during one of the original movies. Super nameks have been a thing for a long time. They are just finally giving piccolo his ups. They had drawn it out very long but the namekians were said to have a super form similar to oozarus. I think they just made it that he was able to contain that energy in a smaller body

I mean, the fact that Shenron gave it to him is very evident. I wouldn't say that it was implied, it's just a stated fact. I think this negates the idea of it being an "ass-pull" since it was set up earlier in the movie.
Personally, I loved it. Piccolo is my favourite character and orange is my favourite colour so I was delighted when it happened.

Shenron respected kami and piccolo so to return the fact that they created him gave piccolo power like no other and I think that is the best way to give piccolo a dope ass power up like orange and either way y'all can't just let piccolo have the spotlight for 5 fuckin seconds the last time he had it was in the cell saga and it lasted all of about 2 mins
