A note from Jakob (the editor) on video gear:
There are a lot of things we use to make videos that I wouldn't recommend people to use for theirs. It's just stuff we had on hand, so it's what we use. That being said, there are things we use that I would recommend, and those are listed below. I'm working on putting together a FULL recommended list of equipment to get your videos looking super sharp. That's coming soon :)

Great discussion! I read this a few months ago in one sitting, and really enjoyed how hypnotic and unsettling it was. I think I have a decent idea of what happened, but I agree with you that the feeling of reading it is the most memorable part. I also did not know any of the Argentinian history that Mrs. Minton mentioned, and that adds a whole new layer to the mystery. Thanks for the video!
@@Snally38 thanks so much for that. I’m glad I’m not alone in that unsettled feeling.
I love that you guys have this is as a monthly thing. Seeing you guys talk about your experiences, comparing/contrasting-very nice to see
@@Chance.Dillon th aka my friend. We do have a great time.
Love seeing more Mrs Minton 💪🫶🏻
Can’t wait for more book clubs w her 😄
I haven't heard of this book before, but I'm definitely interested based on what both of you said about it. Hell, even John's criticisms/disagreements sounded right up my alley.
@@groofay let me know if you get into it.
Nice seeing you both together, good review!! 😅
@@safinan8008 thanks so much!
I like that we’re getting books that we’ve never heard of on booktube with this series! It would be fun from time to time to have the Mrs read one of our darlings and see what she liked and didn’t.
@@theclassy4 that would be fun!
This might be the first time I’ve seen you not know what to think at the end of a book! Thanks for Book Club with the Mrs. 🥰
@@StoryGirl1128 this 1 was not your usual ending. Gotta admit it was uncomfortable for me.
The loving banter between you and your son is only eclipsed by that with you and your gorgeous and hilarious wife. I love your content, John.
@@momo_genX thanks so much you are most kind
I don't think I have ever been this engaged by a review about a book I have zero interest in reading hahaha. Pure magic to hear you two discuss books, loved all the insights on motherhood!!
@@esmayrosalyne Esmay you 1 of the kindest ever. We so appreciate it.
@@Talking_Story you are way too kind to me! just stating truths ;)))
Not quite related but close. I highly recommend the movie Missing from 1982 if you haven’t seen it. It stars Jack Lemmon and Sissy Spacek. It is based on a true story about an American dad trying to find his journalist son who went missing during a Chilean coup that took place in 1973. Like I said not quite related but definitely deals with the same issues as were mentioned about what happened in Argentina a few years later
@@mangoman1616 I have not seen that 1 I will for sure check it out.
Hot dawg. Chilean coup movie. I'm there.
Oooooh, this sounds right up my alley! I absolutely adore stories that play around with what is real. Thank you both for the fascinating discussion! =)
@@subjectiveexperiences1072 you are absolutely welcome!
Mrs. Minton, I can't wait for you to read some of the books we talked about in the last podcast, so we could experience them through your eyes!!! 😊
Love westerns, even more excited to read Red Country now, thanks Josh
Great video as always!
I couldn't read all the comments so I don't see if anyone said it already, but there is a netflix movie about this book. I'm not sure about the name in english but in spanish it's "Distancia de rescate". The director co-wrote the screenplay with the author of the book.
@@Diego-vz5uy amazing we had no idea! We will look it up.
Everyone calling me Mrs. Minton like I'm Mrs. Claus. 🤣
@@Mizz_Minton wait does that mean I’m Santa 😀
Haha =) What is your name, if you don't mind my asking? Apologies if it's been said on the channel before. Or maybe I should ask- what do you prefer to be called?
@@subjectiveexperiences1072 It’s my fault that I chose a fake name every time I’m introduced so the “Mrs” designation makes sense! My name is Amy. Honestly, call me whatever you’d like. I’m only teasing about the Mrs Claus (and amused)!
@@Mizz_Minton Okay Amy =) Thanks for your reply! :)
Sounds like an interesting read! I definitely want to get into some more of these experimental type of stories eventually. Have a lot of fantasy to get caught up with still though! Haha
@@N.A.Summur I feel you on that. SO so much to catch up on.
Great video you two!!! As soon as your video concluded I bought the book 📚!
@@mandicruz912 can’t wait to hear your thoughts!
Man, I don't know how I'd feel about a book like that. I like a sense of completion and understanding of what I just read. Maybe one day if I get a wild hair and just want to be along for the ride?
@@christhewritingjester3164 y I was of 2 minds about it cause I kinda feel the same way.
Since you mentioned Pan's Labyrinth, there is a novelization by Cornelia Funke that is very good and the edition is really cool, I have the Brazilian edition which is similar to the American one.
@@joniellevy1332 oh wow we will look that up thanks!
Wonderful discussion! I really enjoyed it.
@@MothmanJim thanks so much for that and for checking it out.
Aww this was so good! I only wish I would have watched it sooner 😊
@@arabellawillow so glad you enjoyed it!
Try this by Adrianne Harun: In isolated British Columbia, girls, mostly Native, are vanishing from the sides of a notorious highway. Leo Kreutzer and his four friends are barely touched by these disappearances-until a series of mysterious and troublesome outsiders come to town, and it seems as if the devil himself has appeared among them. In this intoxicatingly lush debut novel, Adrianne Harun weaves together folklore, mythology, and elements of magical realism to create a compelling and unsettling portrait of life in a dead-end town. A Man Came Out of a Door in the Mountain is atmospheric and evocative, a broken world rendered with grit and poetry in equal measure.
@@nancuba3922 and Nan know books. Awesome to hear from you!
Oh man. I miss Nan Cuba and I'm getting this book!
Follow up: that title is .

Poor Jakob editing this video and getting to his mom talking about the tingle 😂😂 Have a good day John and Abigail ;)
@@gryftkin almost positive he did not watch the whole thing cause there were no cuts. So very lucky for him.
Thanks for the review. I will have to give this book a go. Love the book club with Mrs.
@@tammaraliberty can’t wait to hear what you think!
@Talking_Story I just finished it. What I think? Wow. I don't even know how to put it in words. The motherhood theme is extreme. But even now at 64, when I hear a siren, my mind flashes to my children, who are both in their 30s. So I get it.
Very unsettling book.
@@tammaraliberty that attachment never goes away I so agree. Yes it is unsettling indeed. Awesome you have it a try!
Mrs Minton is as good at selling a book as the mister! 🤎
@@DarrellRivers-xc2ko she probably beats me all things considered.
@@Talking_Story I'm not disagreeing. ;D
Huh, not a type of book I'd expect you to read John. But it's piqued my interest.
Great video as always.
