Like, up until Strive, it was kind of ambiguous, because her pronouns would change depending on the entry and translation, but its 100% direct now. People dont understand that Bridget didnt really have a specific side story, she was a side character to push Dizzy towards the main cast. She didnt have much other than being the cute bounty hunter. So her being trans is a great addition to her story. It doesn't take away from her character, it isnt a bad ending or something- it adds so much more to a popular character that didn't have much, and gives some amazing representation.

I just like the character's kit tbh, the sexual orientation and gender of the characters don't matter much to me.
I know she's trans now but some of the messages you might want to calm down on her (Bridget) old lore used to be that she didn't wanna be seen as a girl but obviously that change no hate but some the messages just seemed curious

As a guy who simply didnt understand at first, I gotta say I didn't expect this level of toxicity. It's not uncommon to misunderstand gender-based changes and identities. Despite this, it's never been and never will be ok to judge and especially hate someone just because of that. Trans people are brave individuals that openly defy nature just to be who they really are, a struggle I never had to experience. Is it really so wrong to see them represented and inspired by fictional characters, when it's such characters that we look to for inspiration in our own lives?
Bridget is a good character just as she is, and I'm glad to see a form of inclusion that isn't talking down to the audience.

@ctrlaltCookie Absolutely! I hope this behavior doesn't become more apparent. From my perspective, fighting games are generally respected by people outside the community. I dont want anyone who wants to get into fighting games have to deal with harassment just based on who they are :(
It also sucks how masc-dominant the community is, as alot of games cater to the male gaze with its fem characters. Dead or Alive being the biggest one off the top of my head, but every fighting game has done this at one point.
It just hurts. I started my fighting game journey with Mortal Kombat 9, and I loved Mileena, but she made me very uncomfortable because of how she was portrayed as a child-like sex symbol. Its just gross :(

Everything about Brisket's story works, her progression and her journey to find herself. I am dissatisfied that Jacko (Justice?/Aria?) never got to explore her gender in the same way as Major from Ghost in the shell. Cause you know having Sol (Frederick?) remain as in love and steadfast with her would have been awesome to see in a main stream video game, him being the poster child and Daisake's insert chatacter.
Though having Bridget be her true self is 100% welcome.
.....also for selfish and honesty petty personal reasons with the queer community round here i am very happy with this direction for Bridget.

yeah, i mean it really depends on location and a lot of other factors tbh, like the discord i host is 500 or so people and like 90% of active chatters are trans. in person events tend to better in some countries, in the UK near me it's BAD tho so i dont go.
Honestly these people are so infuriating. In part because i actually like having genuine debates, and would gladly discuss things like how gender exists as an ideology and has no basis in material reality, but i can't with these transphobes. The problem is they're not actually coming to the table in good faith, they are showing up without any intent to listen or engage in discussion, and instead are actively trying to create discomfort. I think discussion and debate has the power to change lives, but it can only happen if people are acting in good faith and are willing to let themselves listen to other perspectives and be wrong

Gender is an ideology, yes, but sex is not, as far as the human species go, and I really think that most trans haters don't understand that distinction.

Intersex people, for instance, clearly show how sex is not a binary system as they are born beyond it, and for that matter sex characteristics vary quite a bit between members of the same supposed sex.
For that matter, sex isn't static either, as people's bodies are more than capable of changing, and the aspects of our appearance that people claim are concrete are in practice nothing more than temporary. These changes can occur naturally, or with some form of help, but in either case the important thing is that they are capable of occurring.
The distinction between sex and gender, while perhaps at one point intended to be supportive, in many ways acts as a sort of necessary concession which reinforces gendered ideology under a different name.

Unnecessary curse words I’m sorry but being trans is the sticks sometimes. It’s not even the being trans bit that sucks it’s the constant worry about going outside and being harassed or denied my identity and when I see it happen to a fictional character of all things it makes me even more scared. I think it's important to remember that on a long enough timeline, progress always wins. There may be stumbles and bumps on that road, but acceptance of minority groups will only go up and bigotry will only be made more and more irrelevant. I'm transmasc/non-binary and in the earlier games, Bridget wearing femme clothings helped me realise gender identity doesn't equate to gender expression (I love fashion and makeup!) Bridget is literally an *adult bounty hunter* who *travelled the world* and *chose* to be trans. She was not manipulated, her whole character arc is learning to disregard the stereotypes of her hometown, and came to this conclusion as a mature adult with autonomy over her body.

Leaving little room for hate or controversy. And when an interest explodes in popularity with a flood of newcomers as it enters the mainstream; that is usually when I find the more hateful side of people show up. So in a way it's interesting that a "niche of a niche" has to deal with it to such a degree

Bridget I think was because of how sudden it was that many who played the older games felt betrayed, I guess? Again, I haven't played the older titles so I can't be 100% sure. It was like with Testament's release and how people didn't realize that Gears don't have a gender (excluding Dizzy since I think she's half Gear?). The Japanese version of the old game Testament appeared in even states they aren't gendered.

@ctrlaltCookie in my case my body produces too much testosterone that supplements haven't been helping. I also get sick rather often so it's lead to complications a lot of the time.
My only reason for saying was when referring to Bridget's story is that I haven't played her arcade mode yet so I don't know how it really goes. That and the arcade mode stuff is the current end of her story and that was about a year or two ago back right? So the story was well written for the time.

I think it's fair to say that she's not the ideal trans icon, seeing as her original transition wasn't a choice that she made by her own accord.

I'm just old enough to have Bridget's original inception, cause me to question my gender back then.
I remember what it was like, thinking it so interesting that they could just say they were a guy.
Because they sure didn't look it, And that sure didn't matter.
I'd ask around with a picture of the now her on my phone, what people thought xD
And revel in their confusion.
One of my then classmates, who was eerily chill about the whole thing, explained to me.
It's a fictional charecter. They can look like whatever the creator wants, and the creator can just say what the gender or age or anything about them is. And that's just correct.
And like a truck. It hit little child me. I'M the creator of me. I decide who i am, no? Could i not just declare what i wanted regardless of my apearance??
(Because real life sucks more than fiction. No this wasn't enough. It took a lot longer to truly piece it together xD)
Needless to say, Bridget was a bit of an icon for my whole journey.
And i... Would be lying if i didn't say i was a little upset at first, hearing about her whole transitional epipheny.
But ultimately,
I got the fuck over it.
Her first story was proving she was allowed to exist as she is, but ultimately it was still her wrrying far too much about what everyone else thought.
This new story has her actually finally being free from expectation enough to question what she herself wants and to try to find her own personhood.
It's a far better message.
And it's the one i wish i got as a kid.
Maybe I'd be less obsessed with passing xD
Anyone who tries to obsessively claim her as a boy, Is being ridiculous.
Whether she is or isn't, Is irrelevant.
She is whatever her creators say she is.
And for as long as she's girl.
She's girl.
And to not respect that. Is to not respect the charecter or it's creators.

Remember, people who do these kinds of things do it out of jealousy. And I know that because they wish they could be brave and free like Bridget, to be able to be themselves without fear. Pretty much all transphobes come from insecurity on themselves. They know that there's something wrong with themselves so instead of taking a healthy step of discovering what it is, they blame others. Because they could not ever muster even a quarter of the courage it takes to truly be true to yourself and be yourself. Honestly I'm so happy for Bridget cause she took the scary step of freeing herself and being who she is.
And I truly believe that's why people are like this towards her, they can't believe someone is braver than them and want to bring them down to make themselves feel better. Truly a sad way to live

My biggest issue with Bridget being trans is how it's written. There is one massive flaw with all of it. There's something like a six year gap between xx and strive. What happened with Bridget during all that? It seems like, for Bridget, only days have passed. It would have been so easy to add details to explain her being trans now, but they decided that it should all happen during her arcade mode. It feels really poorly handled. I would love a chance to get more backstory on what she was up to between games.
No matter how poorly written it is, Bridget is trans. She deserves to be happy.

Reminds me of that one parody trailer for Coach L4D2 in Strive that was made by one of these kinds of people - opening the trailer w/ Coach defending (& misgendering!) Bridget from a creepy Goldlewis and ending the video by saying in the copyright info that the series "might be doomed", equating the global standards mentioned in an ArcSys interview around the time to "more censorship and more virtue-signaling to the Twitter community", & begging for an Xrd Rev 3 in place of Strive because it's "better" than Strive according to them.
Absolute lunatic. Can the Xrd side of the community also kick these guys out? A great game on par with Strive should not be associated w/ this specific crowd.

@@ctrlaltCookie idk, i just had bad experiences with the bridget fanbase on places like reddit and tiktok.
I dont wanna go in depth but they can be quite hostile in regards to anything that isn't praising bridget or using the same 4 or 5 bucket jokes. Those jokes also got old REAL quick. They regard the main gg fanbase as transphobic gatekeepers just because we actually want to talk about the game and lore, not just a boring side character (compared to the rest of the cast).
I understand when this aggression is targeted toward transphobes since those people are assholes but sometimes its just random people. I've seen trans allies and trans people being harassed just because they had a negative opinion regarding bridget that didn't have anything to do with gender. Sure there are some nice people but some are just annoying. Its part of the reason I dropped bridget.
2 things. One, doesnt matter what Bridget is, all that matters is she's fucking adorable. Two, i like your voice, it has a very soft tone to it that i quite enjoy listening to. If you did VODs I'd definitely watch em.

Relatively new to the strive scene, it gets mad annoying hearing this constant Bridget discourse and for what. I’m not that knowledgeable in GG but I don’t think she had a huge role in the story anyway. People act like this killed the character, just let her be silly and let her represent a group of people that need more representation, I know Bridget means a lot to a lot of people. Oh, and trans rights and stuff.

She honestly isn't that huge to my knowledge.
She did a couple of cool things that paint her as smart and strong but in the overarching narrative I think the most she did is push a more important character to go do the thing they had to do
