The thing that struck me about this set is that many things in the past were designed to be almost infinitely repairable as long as you have a source of parts. This set is a perfect example. Of course your mileage may vary on that, particularly if the item is poorly designed and / or was built worst case with a lot of defects from the factory. I have a Motorola set from 1968 that my dream in high school was to keep it running forever using new flybacks CRTs Etc when necessary I did keep it running for about a decade and it only had one CRT replacement and one flyback replacement which turned out was unnecessary. My high school instructor got the set and about a dozen others donated from a local TV shop and told me either I had to get the set working that day or it was going to the dump. I enlisted the help of my classmates, and we got a CRT slapped in it from another set that had multiple chassis problems. Great times! 1977.
I miss the days when a Television was a piece of furniture. Today its just some plastic poster hanging on a wall. Those old sets got a fairly decent picture and helped heat the living room in the winter months. I also miss the days that didn't have 20 different drug advertisements on the evening news. 🙂
Watching Shango results in a variety of emotions. But this goes with plenty of spontaneous laughter. Also interesting that a sheet of plywood just happens to be in the room.
All advertisements are abominable propaganda. They participate in the rapid melting of the brain. In the United States, they are culturally accepted, almost acclaimed. In Europe, they have been controlled much longer, but they arrive quickly. The good thing is that it is not in our culture and has a counterproductive effect. At least for me!
I haven't watched TV in many years. 2 takeaways from those ads: 1) People on meds are getting younger and younger, soon we'll see dancing babies praising some pill. 2) My brain got cancer just looking at that. Oh boy.... But the diagnosis and fix were great!

Well, I do appreciate that you stuck with this one; I feel it makes for your most interesting and engaging videos. It was amusing to see the shotgun spree that went into this one; although the previous tech probably wasn't so amused! Those high-voltage pulse circuits are pretty scarry around scope probes and scope frontends. I've seen techs blow the hell out of them in radar pulse-circuits. I usually try to tack in resistive dividers but the resistors have to have good breakdowns or you have to use a string which is not good for tight spaces. I made up a 100:1 divider using an old plastic pen-barrel that I hook the scope probe to the side of. If you have a loading problem, use your HP meter, you should have 1G-ohm input, to enable using a very high-R divider. As I recall, I think you have a high-voltage probe. Some will allow you to place a scope probe on; others have a smoothing-capacitor that precludes that trick. Here not too long ago, I picked up a Tektronix high voltage scope probe at a hamfest, so I now don't have to mess around. with kludges. I had seen them before but never bothered until having to do some HV stuff. So keep an eye out as they are a real pleasure to use. Anyway, think you are a great intuitive-tech, no matter the 'prey', and amazed at the junk you can bring back to life--the term "resurrections" is quite appropriate for sure! 73...
6:10 Seeing all the items that have been replaced, I am reminded of the story of the antique axe that has had its handle replaced three times, and it blade replaced twice, but it's the same axe.. I have a wheelbarrow out back that had the handles and wheel replaced, with the only original part is the container, and that is on its last legs😂. I'm kidding about the TV. I am very impressed with the life that it has lived, along with the expert repairs it has tolerated👍
My childhood TV growing up in the naughts was one of those big ass rear projection CRT sets, think it was a Mitsubishi or Toshiba. Would be nice to see it again, but I wouldn't want to own one. Too big and heavy.
I love the intellectual approach in these videos that allows you to resolve breakdowns. In addition, while knowing what an AGC is, I also understood how it worked. All profit!
Hey, you should do another video on some old CB equipment. I understand that might not be the most popular content in the world, but i feel like it's just as fun watching old CB equipment getting revived as it is old transistor radios or portable televisions.
How I miss those days back in the 70's, I fought with so many of those AGC problems, the agc would drive me nuts because those old tube sets would never balance out once there was an issue. I would find resistors that changed value and those 6gh8a's would go bad 3-4 at a time.....back when a TV was built to last a lifetime.!
Mine is at the eol of its second crt but its only on its 3rd 6JE6 and it's in it's original flyback and the if circuit and horizontal circuit and and all that are completely original I never had a too much width or linearity issue and it's all again original. That's why the flyback never failed. Too much horizontal makes the flyback get hot and fail.

Then by the time the problem is actually found and our best guess is substantiated.........we shout Y-E-S I THOUGHT SO! That vintage TV displays W6XAO in all its colorful glory! I guess these days it's called either KNXT or KCBS 2. It seems to me that those color TV sets from the 1960's were designed for the specific purpose to knock your socks off!

Now I understand why Dan or shango066 wears this funny head wrap when he's front of the camera. The keffiyeh, also known as a hatta, is a traditional Arab headdress. Historically, it was worn by nomadic communities, or Bedouins, in historic Palestine. Typically made of cotton and adorned with distinctive woven patterns, the black and white keffiyeh has become synonymous with Palestinians. Some say the patterns symbolize different aspects of Palestinian life: the bold black stripes represent historical trade routes, the fishnet-like design signifies ties to the Mediterranean Sea, and the curvy lines resemble olive trees-a point of pride for Palestinians1. Palestinians wear the keffiyeh to cover their faces during protests, not only as a form of activism but also for protection from tear gas or identification. The keffiyeh became widely associated with the Palestinian revolution, and revolutionary leaders mandated its use to express resistance and solidarity2. As images of Palestinian protests spread globally, activists and supporters around the world adopted the keffiyeh as a gesture of solidarity with the Palestinian cause3. So, when you see someone wearing a keffiyeh, it’s more than just a fashion statement-it carries historical and cultural significance.
Imagine a scenario where the original pot died, someone replaced it, and it still had problems so they ended up changing the entire AGC circuit and never got to the bottom of it
