You saved my life man. I have to drive on the highway to work tomorrow, and my fusion was in limp mode. All because of a piece of plastic. I couldn’t find a replacement without ordering online, and your recommendation fit perfect. Thank you

This video is spot on thank you!
I had this problem like many others so I'll include some additional info below to save you all some time when trying to figure this out.
    ***READ ME***
    - As soon as you notice this issue, check the floor on the driver's side for the broken rubber/plastic stopper. If found, you'll know the problem and save you some time. 😎
In my case I had to take out the brake switch and it fell out.
    - The car can still be driven if absolutely necessary, but when trying to accelerate past 40/50 mph (second gear) the car will prevent this (I saw this with quite a few instances of this problem, including for myself). From a few forums with 'certified mechanics' they say since the car thinks the brakes are on, it will go into 'limp mode' and act as mentioned above not letting the car go past 2nd gear.
    - This is a common issue for this vehicle as the little rubber brake switch retainer (the little rubber/plastic nail thing) often falls apart.
    - Test the brake switch (blue and gray thing) with a multimeter to make sure that's not the problem.
    - If you can't fix it right away or are worried about your battery dying, you can pull out the little white plug going to the brake switch which will disconnect the brake lights from power. This must be plugged back in to drive though as the car will be stuck in 'Park' without it.

Thank you I got it fixed! I was able to adjust the big screw out a couple turns to get the brake lights to extinguish by letting the switch extend fully. So far so good without needing a clip on this one. I see the hole you talked about that forms over time and needs the clip to fill it, so we'll see if it becomes an issue again in the future. Everything is working again for now 👍

First of all I want to thank you very very much from the bottom of my heart because your video save my parents a lot of money
I was asking the question yesterday because I'm not mechanic and I was watching that video over and over again today and then I was able to figure it out what you're talkin about
Also on your car you have screw to release the brake pedal oh my Dad"s it's little difference but I was able to figure it out
I went to Ford this morning and I asked for the broken part and they say unfortunately I have to buy the whole pedal assembly which was almost $300
And then I realize what you did it
And I did the same thing got that part number just took me a little longer 3x time but I was able to do it
Again I'm sorry for the stupid question yesterday and thank you very very very much for posting the video
You save me and my parents a lot of money
    God bless you brother

Man no problem I'm real happy my video was able to help you get it done for the family, now your family cuz we get it done with out the dealership (at least when ever we can right).
But most importantly there's no stupid question because in order for a person to have common since, they first would have to go thru the situation first and then it becomes common since after.

Thank you so much! And you are absolutely right about the size of the retainer. I had a bunch that were slightly bigger and it was a nightmare. And on the 2013 Fusion they box in that whole area that you need to access with a steel casing. I finally realized if I pulled the brake lever 'up' I could get the receiving hole for the retainer flush with the top of the casing (which is not present on your model). I then gently pressed with a screwdriver to get the retainer to seat itself. I had to look at your video a couple of times to realize that the release of the brake is actually pulling the retainer through the final part of that small opening after you have most of it into the receiving hole. Without your video I'd still be out there.

Liked. Most vids show the lights on even with the engine off. That's not my problem. So am still searching. A year ago I had to remove brake pedal as part of re...reputting! silicone seal under brake reservoir which was rotted due to blocked drains under windscreen grill. I'd had a 1" deep pool of water in the driver's side. Forgot to replace spring that pulls back the pedal. .. but it wasn't that! Still searching.

I’m gonna have to keep the lights on for 24 hours and well until tomorrow morning when I can take it to the auto parts store or Jiffy Lube and have them fix it for me because I can’t get under there, I don’t know how to get under there. I looked it doesn’t look like it’s easy to remove the panel so that I can get to that break part but thanks for the lesson. I’ll let you know if I get it fixed.

Removed the switch Depress/release spring on the switch & could hear it clicking??? so the 2 black pieces near the oval part of the switch I was able to move them slightly & doing so the switch spring lost all its resistance, depress/release switch spring = brake light didn't work at all, moved the 2 pcs back into place & switch regain resistance, reinstalled switch & brake lights now work as normal, no longer stuck on car no longer stalling at 45mph, still throwing DTC C0040-64, but drive normal. Were you getting any codes before or after your fix?

    • @trublu305
      @trublu305  Před 2 lety +11

Yea no problem I can answer that. In this case the switch isn't the problem, how I know or find out is by pressing the button on the brake switch and seeing if the brake light turn off. If the light turn off then you know the switch is working fine.
Now the problem is there actually is supposed to be a little plastic Circle that presses the brake switch when you release the brake paddle. But over time it fall apart, and leave a whole there instead now the brake switch never get pressed so the brake light never turn off. Which is why we put a small clip In the hole to press the brake switch and reason why your brake lights will now turn off when you release from pressing the brake paddle

First I think you should look for the brake switch going base off my video and press the button on the brake switch and have some one check to see if the lights are turning off. If the light are turning of then yes this video will help your situation if not you have another problem.

Thanks bro… I took the switch out and pressed it and the light went off. I’m going to get the clip and do it the way you did yours. I will give you the feedback. Thanks man!!! Dealership is not getting my $ this time😂😃

My car is doing the same thing where the hill assist unavailable keeps coming on and off and my car is not driving smoothly along with the break lights not turning off, but hopefully this solution will fix the problem. Thank you for the video.

I feel like a dummy because I don't see where you did any repair! Is there something that's MISSING from this video that we're supposed to just know? What did you actually DO with the nissan bumper retainer?
