This is my personal favorite movie of all time it’s a movie that makes you feel all of the emotions and sometimes all at once this movie heals the soul and brought a lot of light to me when I was in the dark. Slow-witted Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks) has never thought of himself as disadvantaged, and thanks to his supportive mother (Sally Field), he leads anything but a restricted life. Whether dominating on the gridiron as a college football star, fighting in Vietnam or captaining a shrimp boat, Forrest inspires people with his childlike optimism. But one person Forrest cares about most may be the most difficult to save -- his childhood love, the sweet but troubled Jenny (Robin Wright).

Apparently, when the mics were cut, Forrest said something like "In Vietnam, people sometimes don't come home with any legs. Sometimes they don't come home at all. And that's all I have to say about that."

    • @jonathansmith8672
      @jonathansmith8672 Před rokem +7

And for those wondering why the general cut the mics off while Forrest was speaking. Because at that time, the Vietnam War was becoming unwinnable for Americans and many veterans came home from the war and told stories revealing evidence on the true horrors of the war. The military thought that this would effect support and harm their victory and progress in the war, so they had to come up with ways of preventing information on the war from being let out to the public eye. And that's why the general cut the mics off during Forrest's speech.

Lt. Dan: "If you are ever a shrimp-boat captain, that's they day I'm an astronaut."
Later he gets prosthetic legs made out of a Titanium alloy, the same material used for space shuttles.

For those born after 1973… When Jenny is on the balcony and at her lowest point - the song playing is “Free Bird” by Lynyrd Skynyrd.
    Lyrics:
    If I leave here tomorrow
    Would you still remember me?
For I must be traveling on now
'Cause there's too many places I've got to see
But if I stay here with you, girl
Things just couldn't be the same
'Cause I'm as free as a bird now
And this bird you cannot change
    Oh, oh, oh, oh
And the bird you cannot change
And this bird, you cannot change
    Lord knows, I can't change
Bye-bye, baby, it's been sweet love, yeah, yeah
Though this feelin' I can't change
Please don't take it so badly
'Cause Lord knows, I'm to blame
If I stay here with you, girl
Things just couldn't be the same
'Cause I'm as free as a bird now
And this bird you cannot change
    Oh, oh, oh, oh
And the bird you cannot change
And this bird, you cannot change
    Lord knows, I can't change
Lord help me, I can't change
    Lord, I can't change
Won't you fly high, free bird, yeah

The blonde girl in the school bus in the red and white dress is Tom Hanks daughter Elizabeth. Tom based his speech on the kid who played him as a kid because he was from that area of Alabama.
There was going to be a sequel where Forrest was rasing his son who contracted aids from Jenny and he was going to meet Princess Diana and be near the Oklahoma bombing and other 90's events but the script showed up either the day before or the day after 9/11 and Tom and the director decided that the movie had no meaning anymore so they didn't make it.

A lot of people hate Jenny for how she gave up Forrest several times. And yes, what she did was messed up and Forrest didn't deserve that. But people need to realize that Jenny came from an abusive childhood and it damaged her innocence and sent her down a path of accepting hard, tough love instead of real, sweet love, and allowing herself to be abused instead of be loved. All Jenny needed was time to hang out with Forrest and adapt to his optimism and sweetness unlike her father and boyfriends. Despite this, Jenny keeps leaving and walking away from Forrest BECAUSE the abuse manipulated her so much and made her believe that she didn't deserve to be loved. It made her believe that she's worthless and should be used instead of being loved. It blinded her from the real meaning of love, even when she claimed that Forrest was the one who didn't know what love is. On the outside, she may look messed up, abused, and addicted to drugs. But deep down in the inside, she's still a sweet, young woman who never deserved to be abused in the first place. So before any of y'all in the comments judge Jenny, i just want y'all to understand this. Great reaction, by the way! 😊☺👍💙💖💙💖

    1. The music rights alone must have cost a small fortune💲💲
    2. Having gotten his degree Forrest would have gone into the Army as an officer like Lt. Dan. Not a recruit. His ASVAB kills that.
    3. He actually saved Lt Dan twice. Once in the field and again to get him out of his post war funk and Dan turned his life around.
    4. Normally an enlisted Army person would be fully aware of his separation date.
    5. Jenny did indeed give him the best gift ever (it wasn't the shoes)😋
    6. Jenny died of Hep-C from dirty needles when she was in Caliphony..
    7. It's ironic that Lt. Dan told the guys to take care of their feet because he loses his.
    8. At the rally Forrest says, "Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing. That's all I have to say about that."
    9. You have had a ride through recent US history and culture. From Elvis, John Lennon, Abby Hoffman to Vietnam and Watergate. Even the jogging craze of the 70's. About the only thing left out was streaking.
    10. "Sometimes I guess there're aren't enough rocks"
    11. Haley Joel Osmentt/Forrest Jr. steals the show in "The Sixth Sense" with Bruce Willis.
    12. Often when he's finishing a segment about death, he ends it by saying "That's all I have to say about that"
    13. Keep in mind if Forrest and Jenny had been together he/we wouldn't have had this journey.
    14. In the book Forrest isn't always that nice of a guy.

Lt. Dan Taylor, the best performance in this movie. In my opinion, he overshadowed Tom Hanks acting-wise.

    • @jonathansmith8672
      @jonathansmith8672 Před rokem

Absolutely! At first, he was a desperate war hero who only wanted to follow his family's military tradition. But then the change began when Forrest saved his life during battle, but Lt. Dan was instead angered because he felt that Forrest ruined his destiny to die honorably on the field and left him crippled permanently. Then time passed and after being away from the military, Lt. Dan starts becoming more calmer and sympathetic because he's been made fun of many times due to him being in a wheelchair, and begins to feel what it's like to be in Forrest's shoes. He even defends Forrest when one of the two hookers in the apartment called Forrest "stupid". At the end, he finally thanks Forrest for saving his life and "makes peace with God".
