Kens nervous laughing might be a little annoying, but it was a hero’s giggle. He was making sure everyone’s jokes were going over well and he made sure Chevy felt liked by patting his hand while Harmon was embarrassing him.
It's not even really that annoying. It just shows great receptivity to his fellow human beings. Why are we even critiquing someone enjoying themselves (note that I'm not saying, you, the person above, is being critical. I'm mainly referring to others.)? I mean I can understand it if he were cloying and deferential to the ulterior degree to which Jimmy Fallon does. I don't see that being the case though.
Yeah. He took the "diplomat" role. Maybe if he hadn't we could have seen an epic Chase/Harmon fist fight.

movement2contact basically, Dan Harmon slept with Chevy Chase’s wife to get back at him for reporting him to HR for not letting Chevy wear his doctor prescribed back brace. Chevy got really pissed off and quit the show, but because of fear of ratings, Dan was fired instead and Chevy stayed on for another season until Dan was rehired for season five.

@@movement2contact thats not true. i fact checked that everywhere and couldnt find that anywhere. but if you have a link or interview i would love to confirm this crazy theory @Peter smith. he and Chevy did not get along at all but due to ratings, they believed it would be better to let Dan go (also is/was a very heavy alcoholic) then Chevy. but in retrospect those seasons SUCKED without Dan at the Helm. so they brought him back on in later seasons. but by then the damage was done and the show was on the decline.

I disagree. Pierce comes from a place of ignorance but has good intentions, Chevy is the opposite. Pierce was a very endearing character IMO, and had many redeemable qualities. Chevy is just an ass 😂

Maybe Jeong laughs so much and seemingly has little ego (at least, relatively) is because he now relishes life, having experienced the ultra seriousness of the medical profession. Or being pint up as a result of the whole environment. I don't know what kind of doctor he was, but maybe, if he was deep into it, he was confronted with mortality so regularly that he's so aware of the fleetingness of life that he has to seize the moment and sees the futility of getting bent out of shape or something. Something like that.

The more you see deep within the show, you realise Dan Harmon was slightly making fun of the actors with their characters. Britta for example, she's always made fun off for being out of time or living in the 80's, and Gilian Jacobs lives in a 1920 apartment because she wanted to. Maybe thats why their characters fit so well, they are basically parodies of the actors to some degree. Maybe that's why Chevy Chase didn't like it at all.

I don't think that's very accurate. Definitely not for Joel, Ken, Allison, Donald and Danny... It might be true for Chevy and Jim. And that thing about Gillian, well, I think it's the only thing of her character which is similar to the actress (and it's not something important about the character at all). Anyway, the first 5 actors I mentioned are absolutely different from their characters. It is very clear when you watch The Darkest Timeline podcast and you see how the actores really are.

@@alexlun4464 Sure, but that doesn't mean that "he was slightly making fun of the actors with their characters". Mainly because it's impossible that most of them are parodies of the actors, like you also said, since most of the actors are nothing like the characters. I mean, they couldn't be different (apart from Chevy, obvsly, and Jim/Yvette to a certain point). Anyway, it doesn't make much sense because the characters which could have been parodies of the actors (Shirley and the Dean; again, apart from Pierce) were created before they casted the actors. The ones who were really adapted to the actor, and therefore with whom your point would make sense, were Annie (she was supposed to be Asian and they were going to use that to make puns), Abed (he wasn't supposed to be half Polish) and Troy (he didn't necessarily have to be black), and the adaptations weren't used as opportunities to make fun of those characters.
Peter Parker Doesn’t that go with most T.V comedies though? That the actors personalities bleed into their characters in small ways. Especially taking the fact that a lot of the jokes in Community are ad libbed it makes sense that some of the humor can be directed at both the actors and characters.
Ken Jeong is the best, the fact that he whispered in his ear to help him understand. I really didn’t like to see all the tension between them tho because i really loved Pierce in the show and Chevy in general. and to hear all those bad things about him and the show really makes me feel bad
Yea, I'm a big fan of Chevy and all but I think he could've done a bit more to at least enjoy the opportunity he got, being on community. It seemed like one of the last things keeping his career afloat

I'm not defending Chevy, and I get it, they're all probably acting that way cause when you're around Chevy as much as they are, he probably brings out the annoyance in them. But it does seem a TAD mean spirited. I'm all for comedic playfulness, and hey there are a million stories of Chevy himself going way too far with it in a way you know isn't comedic. But especially the way Donald and Dan talk and laugh about Chevy, its in the way of you know instantly how much they talk about him behind Chevy's back. Where they're like "what time period is this guy stuck in?" It fine in private, but I never loved that they were just so open about it. If Chevy fucks up, call him on it. But if he doesn't, which largely he doesn't here, there's no reason to behave that way. Just the way I see it.

I feel like the problem stemmed from the fact that Chevy a) has a unique sense of humour that the others didnt quite get and maybe felt a bit iffy about (like the hot dog comment) and b) took both the show and the character a bit too seriously. I mean, he's a serious actor, and fair play to him, but in order to play a character like Pierce you need to loosen up. Also I think Harmon and Chevy disagreed on who the character ultimately was. And who's to say which was right?
