  • In this video, I teach you how to hold horse reins correctly. Holding your horse's reins properly gives you more control while you’re riding and enables you to communicate more effectively with your horse. If you're not 100% certain that you're holding your horse's reins the right way, this video will help!

The reason western riders hold the reins in one hand is because they use leverage bits which are designed to be held in one hand. Snaffle bits, most commonly used by "English" riders must be held in two hands to be properly used, and they should never pull two hands on a snaffle bit. You shouldn't be using your resins to stop your horse, they are a communication aid and not intended to be used for domination and control. Why on earth would you ever want to teach your horse to fold its nose around to your knee? You are disconnecting the reins from the horse's feet and creating a potentially dangerous situation.
