    I have combat related PTSD and I live 800ft from the birthplace of rock-n-roll (Beale Street, Memphis TN) and the drunken screaming/fighting...live bands playing in the streets from time to time is part of the area’s charm. But add the random, regular, daily blowing of the air horns on the trolleys they finally have up and running after 3 years is just too much for me to take!

    Hi, I have question. In my location there is no good off the shelf weather stripping material so I had to do it DIY. I want to know which material is best in order to block the sound with windows weather stripping. Is it foam, elastic rubber polymers, cork or what. MLV is unavailable and I didn't ever see anyone do that with MLV. My guess is elastic polymers but which polymer is the most efficient? And about the cross section... Is B shape cross section the best? Hollow or not?

    Would it be effective to buy a regular curtain with a pocket with lining (the kind of curtain that works a bit like a duvet) and then put in acoustic lining, or would that be inferior to a ready-made sound-deadening curtain?

      @soundproofguide  Před 3 lety

      You could certainly make something similar using plexiglass. I'm not sure it would work the same because the windows are mostly custom made to fit your window. If you can make something similar that is airtight then you'd probably be good to go!

      @@soundproofguide Thanks for the response! I'm in Japan so I'm not really sure what products are available here (I don't believe Indow Window is operating here). A common method here from DIYers seems to be to make a sliding double window using two pieces of thick corrugated plastic that overlap ever so slightly.
      I'm in a rental apartment so I don't really want to shell out a load of cash for a window that isn't even mine (as you rightly alluded to in your video).
      Thanks again!

      I'm having so many issues in this new place I just moved into. In my last place I had NIGHTMARE upstairs neighbors who sounded like they were a part of a circus. Now, I never hear the person above me in this new place, but the noise from outside is absolutely relentless. I've been here for almost 3 weeks and the first 2 weeks everything was so quiet. All of a sudden it sounds like I live on a highway, I can audibly hear every single person's conversation outside, people slamming their car doors sounds like a sledgehammer hitting the backside of my wall, the list goes on and on. My plan is to take a board the size of my window frame and pack and load it with a ton of stuff on top that helps dampen noise. I can deal with the noise during the day but it's the night time that is driving me absolutely mad. This way I can put it up at night and then remove it when I get up. Not sure what your situation is and if you need the sound blocked 24/7.
