    I really like ‪@EdSheeran‬ and think he's creating meaningful music for a new generation of guitar players. I was excited for his collaboration with ‪@georgelowdenguitars‬ but have been confused and concerned by the hijacking of George Lowden's legacy with the launch of ‪@SheeranGuitars‬. It's great to collaborate and even create a new venture but this has bothered me since they came out.
    So, I bought one. haha. I got the S-03 from a local seller and have been surprised with the quality and detail. It feels like a Lowden but it's substantially more affordable. Does it bother you? Should it bother me?

    Don't be so cynical !! - What you didn't say in your review is that Ed Sheeran has poured £millions into this project ... Why? - For two reasons ... It's to give young people the chance to own a quality guitar at an amazing price point (£549 - £899 in the UK) ... AND ... he has created 30 much needed new jobs for young people in Northern Ireland. He will probably make no money at all out of this new Company ... It's great that his philanthropy is benefiting many people, and credit should go to him for that ...

    I'd like to think Lowden replaced his logo with Sheeran just to thumb his nose at the naysayers and fud... I really at this point think they've both EARNED this right to do whatever the hell they want ...this project never meant the man had lost his skill in making guitars or sold out in anyway. What company has not made a sig ...Sheeran is not a cutout popstar ..hes been writing and playing the same way he did since he was a barely making a living street busking... which makes it even more genius on lowden's part ...perfect selection for signature project.

    Very cool first impressions. I myself own one of the W04 models and for gigs, looping, and recording it absolutely fills all my needs. I am mainly a finger style player and looper with small hands and smaller stature (5'6") so this guitar is the perfect size for someone like myself. I also own a PRS SE P20E, Martin LX1E, and Taylor GS Mini and I have to say that, in my personal experience, it is superior in that category and to me is worth the extra money it takes to acquire it. The fingerboard width is perfect and the neck fits my hands like a glove. Something about the way it sounds makes it stand out from the rest as it doesn't take much energy at all to get a nice delicate tone out of it. I also use 80/20 elixirs on it so that might help with the way it sounds and feels. Nice video! Looking forward to seeing more x

    I'm pretty sure if you put that Sheeran up to a similar sized & tone wood Lowden, you would hear a very different guitar voice. The "S" is for small, between a Martin 00 and 000. A "W" is for 'wee' a bit bigger than an 0 and 00. Their "O" is for original. Nice guitars and the cedar makes it warmer with not too much headroom. Thanks Jeremy.

But I'd rather stick to the standard mini Martins or spend my $$ on a different brand that has more bang for my buck. We are fortunate to have a multitude of guitar brands to spend $1000 on a complete solid body guitar. I do however like a cedar top every once in a while, kudos on that!

    I have owned four Lowdens. I really, really, really regret selling -- back in the late 1980s -- my simple mahogany and cedar jumbo Lowden. That's the best Lowden combination, in my opinion. The key is that Lowdens offer so much volume that, with bare fingers, they just SING. Sort of like 12-fret dreads. I am not sure that Sheeran's sound has much to do with him playing Lowdens. Thus, this guitar intrigues me, but it really would never fill the Lowden shaped hole in my heart. So we need you to play this -- next to a real Lowden -- and let us hear it totally finger-style. No picks. No strumming.

    Sheeran just happens to be my wife's maiden name, and my sons middle name. I bought it specifically to give it to my son due to that name.
    Its not a Lowden, but for the money its worth it. I have the Cedar/Indian Rosewood model (not the original Santos rosewood). Overall, its a good buy as long as you don't think you're getting a 5k Lowden.

  • @DjNikGnashers
    @DjNikGnashers Před 21 dnem

    Ed Sheeran tried a Lowden, and said it actually sounded 'too good', and wanted something with a more basic sound as it fitted his music better.
    Hence George Lowden designed a more basic sounding instrument, at a more affordable price, but still built to a higher quality standard than other cheap guitars.
    It's designed to be easy to play with a good low action, and have low feedback for buskers and young performers playing with an amp close by.
    It's not meant to be a 'Lowden', and isn't designed to be. I have a Lowden and it's fantastic.

  • @IndigoJo
    @IndigoJo Před 2 lety +7

    Over here a guitar seller used to sell Lowdens until he had to also sell Sheerans; he said that the S03 was great but some of the models in that line, like the W01, sounded like they'd strung up a tin can and put a £600 price tag on it. He used to love Lowdens despite the price (which in the UK starts at just above that of an imported Martin 18 or 28) but stopped selling them because of the Sheerans. I've always thought it was a mistake to introduce a series of laminated guitars and still ignore an entire price range that consists of most of the 'prosumer' to professional guitar market. A lot of people will be overlooking these in favour of an all-solid Furch which doesn't have a pop star's name on the headstock.
    The size, BTW, is midway between a 00 and a 000, at least in body width.

Clapton has signature models with Fender, Martin, and Gibson (high end Custom Shop replicas of a couple of his Gibsons). Jimmy Page has signature Fender Telecasters in addition to various signature model Gibsons (none of the Gibsons are current production models). I own a 1989 O-25 Lowden and have played many other Lowdens. This is no Lowden. Whether you like its sound and playability is another question. Obviously it's 1/5 the price, so there's that, but don't fool yourself into thinking you're getting a Lowden's sound.

    Notice how he says layered for the back and sides. That means laminate. The difference is like having a home with real hardwood floors vs laminate floors. Nothing is better than true hardwoods through and through. Sounds better, feels better, and last a lot longer.

      You obviously know little about guitar construction and sound development dynamics through the box. Laminates are not bad. For instance: Do you know the difference between layered solid wood laminates (as these guitar’s backs and sides are made) and plywood laminates? I would guess not. Some laminate back and side instruments are terrible of course and there are not a few horrible all solid wood guitars that cost a lot. Your knowledge is obviously limited. These Sheeran/Lowdens are excellent little guitars. I am a music industry sound and instrument specialist. I have worked with many professional singers and guitar players whose names you would recognize and I have heard every single Sheeran/Lowden instrument I’ve encountered professionally open up sound wise over even a few months and always over a couple of years of playing. Investigate before judging. Also listen to someone who is actually a good player before commenting on the guitar’s voice. The guy who made this video plays so poorly and on a brand new Sheeran/Lowden. A skilled player will get amazing sound out of any new guitar made in the Lowden factory whether it be one of these or a full size sixteen thousand dollar Lowden. I am puzzled how many people listen to this CZcamsr as if he actually knows. Learn what makes a good guitar then make pronouncements and talk about the subject. Your ignorance is showing. So is his.

    I love the Lowden stuff. A friend of my dads(theyve both passed away) had an early Lowden electric that was just perfect in every way. This looks like a good guitar, but I just couldn't enjoy it with his name on the headstock.

    Great marketing idea as Ed S is such a big name at the moment and well liked. However won’t buy one but my local guitar shop in Limerick quit the Martin franchise to sell Sheerens, as he can’t sell enough of them to young men and women. Little Mickey Mouse guitars if you ask me, but good luck to all.

    Using "laminate" sides, consisting of two super thin pieces of solid wood being glued together, (as opposed to what we usually think of laminate in guitar construction), is a growing trend among luthiers. The theory, is that a more rigid side on the guitar transfers more energy to the soundboard, increasing the volume and sustain. Driftwood Guitars' CZcams station has a good video explanation of the science behind it. I haven't heard of anyone doing that with the back, so I don't know what the deal is on that. Plastering you name on the headstock of a guitar, designed by and produced an established guitar make is tacky. Even on the signature models of guitars, the celebrity in question usually takes some interest in how the guitars are specked out, so the guitar at least reflects their preferences. After looking into "Sheeran Guitars", it doesn't look like he contributed anything but his name.

      You are just like the guy who posted the original video. You didn’t actually look into it with any depth or you would have found out Sheeran had a lot to do with the design and development as told by George Lowden himself. Do a bit of actual research before pronouncing judgement. I see jealousy in many comments like yours.

    Maybe you should look at a few of the videos Sheeran and Lowden have made discussing the development of these instruments before you form an opinion. Your conclusion is way off the mark about how these guitars came about. If you heard the actual words out of George Lowden and Ed Sheeran’s mouths you might change your opinion if you have not already done so. But your general manner makes me think you are frozen in this derisive mind set. As I view this video one year later it might be possible you have come to another conclusion in the meantime but I doubt it. As it is you come off petty and small minded. Never mind that these Are great guitars that play fantastically and are so well and honestly made by the same skilled craftsmen and women who make the more expensive Lowdens. You have spoken before you have all the correct information. If this is the way you form opinions I am not sure I would want you to help me or anyone I know find the right guitar. This is about the cringiest video I have seen in a while and after actually investigating how these guitars came to be you ought to be embarrassed by what you have been saying. Do you think Ed Sheeran actually needs a money grab endeavor? Do you think George Lowden could be fooled by anyone trying such a thing? Maybe you are that cynical after all. I have been playing guitar for over fifty years. I own eleven acoustic and acoustic electric instruments from my own cherished Lowden Pierre Bensusan model, my Martin D-21, to a post WWII Gibson, a Taylor 700 series, a Tacoma C1C Chief, two old catalogue guitars from the ‘30s, and a few others. I just purchased a Sheeran/Lowden W-04 after visiting the Lowden factory in County Down recently and it is an excellent guitar all the way round. I purchased this after talking briefly to Mr. Lowden about the Sheerans during my visit. I can tell you from first hand knowledge your opinion is so wrong about these Sheeran/Lowden guitars and the motives of Ed Sheeran and George Lowden. You ought to follow the old adage of thinking before you speak and further: investigating, finding out, before forming half-baked opinions and passing them on to others. Your attitude does not come off with an air of authority at all rather you unconsciously reveal yourself to be peevish and blinkered without an ounce of true discernment.
