part of my issue with Disenchantment was that it was different from what the trailer made me think it would be. The trailer made it seem like the show was going to be a sprawling tale after Bean runs off from her wedding, being pursued and having misadventures cross country. Instead she just mostly stays in and around the capital city doing random shenanigans

Fun fact, even though Netflix spaced the seasons a year apart, seasons 1 and 2 were written and boarded at the same time. So they didn't have a chance to reflect and correct on it at all. Season 3 will be the first actual new season with a production gap, hopefully they had a chance to tighten it up properly.

I have to say that Part 3 is the best Season so far. It chooses to be more story focused with some jokes thrown in which I feel was the right move. An on top of that we have conspiracies, secret society sex orgies, human Princess on mermaid princess action etc. I also have to add that if a season can end with you asking, “What’s going to happen next?” , “Who is that?” And “Will they ever meet again?” Its doing something right!

I think part of the reason is that there are several things that "can" happen that juts didn't. Like, the episode with the mermaids declaring war on the kingdom: We never heard of them again. The replacement king going out into the forest for what could be a long lasting and memorable story arc. That lasts one episode.
There can be so much world building in those two plotlines alone that it puts the current one to shame. It has an awesome story with Dagmar. That twist was wonderful. They brought her back for what, 2 episodes in season 3? when we could have gotten an entire season of wondering if she loved bean for an entire season, (along with the revenge plot) instead we get it done in 2 episodes. And the entire plot arc was resolved in 2 episodes. They are trying to do SO MUCH.
More of a build up would make everything feel natural, rather than a "okay, we hit this plot point, now onto the next." type of deal.

I loved him as a character until he found out there was an elf castle under Dreamland. Suddenly he's mad at Bean about it, knowing full well she was just as clueless and uninvolved as he was. The other elves aren't as spiteful about it (even when they stopped being able to communicate and were forced to be vague and angry about it so the plot could be stretched out). Even if he's unfazed by death at this point, he'd know to just talk about this issue and the whole thing would be resolved in less than an episode.
      He was fun until then.

I hate when people complain about not every episode following the plot. Firstly, not every day of someone's life is furthering their lifelong ambitions. It's a comedy. Futurama did much the same thing, sprinkling the story here and there while leaving most of the room up to fun and frivolity. It's a comedy. You can't have constant story that's still funny.
Second, watch carefully. Every single episode world builds in one way or another. Introducing a character, a symbol, a relic, a concept, something that always comes back in some form or another. Just finished season three. It answers a lot, but not too much, and makes a lot of stuff that seemed random make a lot more sense (just like season 2 did for season 1).

Unpopular opinion about: he was briefly an amazing character.
I didnt care for him all that much in the beggining. He was mildly funny and didnt annoy me, but wasnt amazing.
However, there is a scene between him and Luci where he says something in the lines of "Hey, Im starting to think you dont want whats best for Bean." He then later hits Luci as revenge.
Then, until his death, he became amazing. He finnaly stopped being inocent, but kept a good heart. This balance in personality between being simple and nice while not being naive and even a bit mean is something that is really rare to see and its easily my favourite type of personality in a story. Code Lyoko, an animated show that was popular around the 2000s, also achieved this kind of characters, specially in Jeremy, but its still something really rare to see.
Then, the whole hell thing happened and Elfo kept developping and eventually became a rushed developped Morty.
This was the writters intention from the very beggining, but I think we'll see him become more empathic again, maybe through Bean. If so, I really hope they realise the potential they have with this character and strike that balance once again

Bean choosing her mother was one of the best decisions, but you can't immediately write yourself out of that as soon as a new season starts. It makes the show feel as if there are no stakes. I think the show should have at least waited halfway through the second season to find a way to bring elfo back.

    In my opinion:
Disenchantment had a great premise and a solid foundation to be a great comedy drama. The problem is that there is almost no consequences to character's actions. Not to mention how every scene HAS to have 2 or 3 forced comedy inserts.
I'll compare this with Helluva Boss - Most jokes land well and they don't conflict with the pacing of the episodes. Character's actually have to deal with consequences and they seem to actually learn from them.
All in all, this show has turned in to a great "background noise" show - as long as you don't pay attention to all the obvious plot holes and misplaced comedy it's not a terrible watch. Not good, but not terrible.
