    Great topic. When we were new RVers we thought we knew it all. We treated our Class A tires like passenger car meaning we didn’t think much about it other than a quick glance. Anyway we drove thousands of miles with one of our rear inside tires flat. Didn’t even noticed it. Also our front end was out of alignment so we had severe wear on the passenger side tire but didn’t noticed it with a quick glance. By now you can see we were complete idiots. The amazing part of this story we didn’t have any blowouts or issues. When we added all new tires the installer said we were lucky to be alive. Hats off to Michelin Tires. Now we pay close attention, protect against UV rays, dry rot, front end alignments and a tire monitoring system.

    Good show. I am coming up on my 6th year for my tires. After our summer trip I am going to buy two front tires. Then in one more year I will by two more and then in another year I will buy the last two tires. That way I can spread the cost out over three years for all 6 tires. We have a 2016 Winnebago Vista LX which we bought in April 2016. We only have 10500 miles on it so buying tires by age is killing me. But I understand the issue and I tell my family about the date issue on tires. The date out on tires goes for all vehicles.

    • @GetGonewithUS
      @GetGonewithUS  Před 3 lety

      Thanks James! The front tires are the most important, because a front tire blowout could be more dangerous then a rear tire blowout. Neither is good. We were going to just do the fronts this time, but the sale was a good one. Happy Trails. 😀

    You make many good points. I just upgraded our 5th wheel’s tires and rims. We’re at a seasonal site and while the tires have a manufacture date of about 6-8 months ago, they have zero miles. They are protected from the sun via the slide outs and I keep tire covers on them as well. I should be good for awhile.

      10 years is the MAX for any tire like we said in the video. RV's, especially those that sit outside in storage, the general rule of thumb is 5 to 7 years. 😀

    Thanks for this video. Very timely for us since we are looking to change our Birdie’s shoes. My question - why the Bridgestone tires? Did you have those tires on Maggie already? We are trying to do research to make a decision and get our tires changed. Currently, our Birdie has Goodyear shoes. I believe they are original to our Precept 31UL. So, I’m curious when I heard you put on Bridgestone tires. As always, safe travel!

    • @monicasilva2864
      @monicasilva2864 Před 3 lety +1

      Looking more at your tire choice and I see it looks like a larger tire - 22.5. We have 19.5. So, that may be a difference right there. This is all a new area for us. We’re newbie’s and we bought a new to us rig. We are still loving it. Thanks for any insight. It’s appreciated as we do our research.

    • @GetGonewithUS
      @GetGonewithUS  Před 3 lety

      Yes we do have the 22.5" rims. For us the choice was easy, the shop we used only had Michelin's and Bridgestone's that would fit our rig. Maggie came with Michelins and it was our intention to go with them, but they only had 2 available and 8 Bridgestone available. We have Bridgestone on our Jeep and with 60,000 miles on the original tires and they can still pass inspection which helped with our decision. When it come to tire choice, it's like opening a can of worm. Everyone has their favorite brand. After researching we found the majority of the opinions preferred the Bridgestone over the Michelins. That fact they were $569 each and on sale for $340 each really sold them for us. So far we are happy with the tires. On our class C we went from Michelin to B.F. Goodrich. Good luck with your choice. If the tires are balanced correctly, you shouldn't notice too much of a difference either way if the rating on the tires you have now are the same or better on the tires you are buying. Hope this helps some. Safe travels to you as well. 😀

      @monicasilva2864 Před 3 lety

      @@GetGonewithUS Thank you for your response. It does appear to be a can of worms when it comes to tire choice. You reference the rating on the tires, what is that? Is it a uniform tire rating system?

    • @GetGonewithUS
      @GetGonewithUS  Před 3 lety

      @@monicasilva2864 Things like size, weight ratings, sidewall strength, load rating. You want to make sure you don't buy tire with a lower load rate that what Birdie needs. The tire shop should be able to verify all that for you.
