I've had two of these. Ones a short one around 2mteres and one is the long version shown in this video. Both have worked well for pruning trees like Lilli Pilli around 5 metres high and assorted other garden specimens for around 6 or 7 years now. You may ask why two? Well, our local hardware store had a short one and I didn't know Fiskars made the long one til a year or 2 later. The first was so good I then invested in the long one which has been absolutely thrashed looking after a few properties. I'm older but its been pretty handy not having to cart around ladders and climb trees to get the job done. I only responded to this video today as the jaws on my large one just jammed and I was looking for a jaw replacement today. Not a bad investment and a very durable unit.

I have one of these and it is awesome. One of the best tools I have ever owned.

    this tool is discontinued.
... on mine, the lopper often didn't make a clean cut, in fact would get stuck and i'd have to rip the branch to get it off. this happened since it was new. it wasn't a maintenance issue... and i could never get it tight enough that when i was sawing (you didn't mention the saw attachment) the pole wouldn't slip, until it was slipping to the point of useless. i tried one more time to tighten it and the cheap plastic mechanism split apart.
i called for a replacement -or, what i was really hoping for was a good (metal) replacement tightening mechanism (& just write off the lopper part as shit) but they sent me the new model, which is thin and wobbly and the lopper is 1/2 plastic! believe it or not, yes the cutting blade bypasses a plastic edge. it works fine for now, -maybe it'll stay sharp longer? -we'll see. it's also back to the old way of pulling a rope to cut. the rope is not neatly inside the tube like the old one (like yours) so it will be the same pain-in-the-ass as loppers always were before, with the rope getting tangled or falling out of reach right when the lopper gets situated into a tough spot.
the tightening mechanisms (2) seem good.
. . . all this said -i have no less than 24 fiskars tools, and i'm happy with most of them. of note is the 5' pole pruner, which is one of the most valuable tools i've ever had.

I don't have a saw attachment as the cutter worked fine with up to 25mm branches in medium softwood and some hard stuff which was pushing it.

The large unit can reach about 4 to 5 metres from ground level safely without a ladder.

Hi Alyson, so the old WD40 has not worked? How old is it? Can you take it back? Thats a shame as mine ever fails to perform, try emailing Fiskars as they are really good company, stay safe
