The spirit of community is definitely what I remember the most about Ivan in Jamaica. Men rescued neighbors from their homes in the middle of the night, neighbors housed each other to ride out the storm, and the community shared water and resources during the aftermath. A house fire was accidentally ignited by a child with candle one day, and some neighbors shared their last bucket of water to out it. Sending love and protection to everyone affected by Beryl. 💛

Wayne, I did not have a mild withdrawal. I had a major withdrawal!! Gilbert showed community, strength, and resilience of a nation. It also showed we have the tanicy to withstand trials; to share and take care of each other. It also showed how other nation cared for us and how gratitude is given. We are out of many one people.

Please be safe and let us spray that the high of the hurricane don’t hit Jamaica just the tale of the hurricane. Let’s pray for Jamaica. The government is doing a great job getting everyone ready for the hurricane please take precaution pleasedo what the government said to stay home stay off the road get some food and your flashlight and battery in case the power went out. You can see around you be safe. Everyone may God bless Jamaica at this time and continually bless us.

I remember many years ago in Ocho Rios reading a book during a hurricane. I was a teenager. We were in a condo-type building with others so it didn’t sound too scary from the inside. I remember hearing a lot of wind but the next day when I went outside, I was shocked to see all the damage done - trees uprooted, wrecked boats flung way up on shore, poles fallen on cars, debris all over the beach and no electricity for days. It was an experience I’ll never forget.

I remember Gilbert and had the experience of Hugo a cat4, never want that again. Beryl did alot of damage to our South Coast and fishing industry and that was at 80 miles south of us.

I remember being same age as Tami during Gilbert and seeing plenty satellite dish and zinc fly past my house. Like Wayne I remember when mommy say come we go walk during the eye and quick quick rush back to the house before the eye of the storm ended. Are we the adults now!? That still seems so fresh. God protect Jamaica like no other 🙌🏽, I am glad to see most fared well. Am grateful for social media to keep us in the diaspora connected throughout with family and friends and general news.

Hi Mitchell family praying 🙏 you guys made safe through the storm and doing well,
I went through Hurricane Gilbert in 1988. I was 7 years old, and I was excited about the hurricane. 😆 I didn't understand how much damage a hurricane could do. We had a little leaking and some water inside, but the roof was fixed quickly, and then we had fun drying up the water. You see, I was young and didn't understand about natural disasters. It was my first experience. My brother and I were belly surfing in the water and skating barefooted. There was a puddle of water in the front yard, and we had fun in that, too. It wasn't dirty. It was clear. That was our pool for the day. Children know how to have fun!😂😂
My cousin allowed his neighbor with four children to stay at his place because they live in a board house in Saint Elizabeth, and his roof can lift off too. God bless him! That was very kind of him.
Let us pray. Let us continue to pray for each other, fellow jamaicans, as well as the other caribbean nations, and the world. Can you imagine the impact if we perpetually pray, and not just when there is imminent danger?

I was living in Jamaica when hurricane Gilbert hit. It was scary. I saw a car flip over. And then o saw the trees flying through the street. And roof. And one of our window blew right out.
This Ms Beryl is packed with lots of wind and tornadoes and with our weather and waters been so hot lately expect anything. I pray it down size before making landfall
