    I think you fail to realise why these vehicles are so popular, you are comparing the Landcruiser Sahara ZX with the likes of the BMW X5/ Q8 as an equivalent choice for the same money. I am here to tell you, in fact inform you of the reason that the Landcruiser shines in almost every aspect of ownership when compared to the German and also the British rivals of the same buyer. Let’s begin by saying that I have owned a new X5 M-Sport and I can assure you that the comfort level between the two is worlds apart. The harshness of the 22” run flats are jaw breaking to be kind, even my children commented on how harsh the ride is, as it may perform well on a smooth racing track doing the moguls, but around the streets of Sydney, you need a mouthguard…and to be driving a SUV at the same height as all the other cars on the road is pointless.
    I have also owned the latest Range Rover Sport, and the new Range Rover Autobiography Sport, to say they are magnificent cars, is an understatement, but reliability and resale on anything with over 100,000 klm’s is an absolute joke, and if you intend driving this magnificent country, towing a van and expect to return in one piece and not be 5 years older whilst waiting for parts in Broome, good luck to you…but at least they are more of a competitor than the BMW or Audi comparisons.
    The reason people buy the Landcruiser is not only for its amazing reliability, comfort, and resale values regardless of the kilometres travelled, it is the only one that offers that, coupled with the high driving position and off-road capabilities which if needed is always there which the BMW doesn’t have in any way shape or form. Regardless that the ZX has a reduced approach and departure angle, it’s still more capable than 99% of the other vehicles available today. If I buy a vehicle as just a Toorak Tractor and do nothing other than drive the kids to school, with no intentions of doing anything else, not caring about resale or reliability, or a comfortable ride then go for it. If you want something that will do it all, maybe like every other vehicle on the planet not perfectly, but close, then buy a Landcruiser. Just for your information, I own a Sahara ZX and a 200 series VX as well presently, so I am suitably informed, and the differences between them are huge, the only thing the same is the size and the name on the badge. Great video by the way, I agree with much of what you said, but not in all areas. Driving just for a stint, is different to owning the vehicle, and paying for it….

    • @jiateguo1119
      @jiateguo1119 Před 2 lety +7

      Totally agree with you, I have owned a BMW X3 prior to getting the Landcruiser Sahara, and it is so comfortable and capable off-road. Sure the tech is about a generation behind the German suv, but the driving dynamic and the comfort is good and at end of the day this is what a good car is about.

      @Dan-rg7jj Před rokem

      I'd rather an Escalade if you could get them here, or Escalade V or GMC yukon. Especially one of the old ones with the 8.1l and Allison. Or even a Hummer (would have to be highly modified as the stock 6.0l/6.2l isn't enough even for a sedan). I don't like high driving positions always. Have a new 4wd ute and its somewhat dull. Medium sizes cars are much better around Sydney. The ute can't zip in and out of traffic like a sedan or a few other things with aftermarket sway bars and big N/A V8. Yeah I could fit a rear sway bar, source a diff with 4:10s and give it a tune to make it a fair bit more nippy. It's always going to be a body on frame joke of a diesel thing tho. There are many more options in the states. I dont think just because we can't get things here we should resort to buying Landcruisers, BMWs and Range Rovers. Think out the box. Ask anyone in the states and they will laugh at you for wanting a deisel to tow anything under 10000 ibs. What about the new Ford godzila engine? That would be good in Sydney in a heavy landcruiser up the hills.

    It's true, when you have the budget to spend so much on a car just to drive in metro suburban why do you even want to consider such an extremely low tech Land Cruiser when any of the German or European competitor you pick would be twice better and technological advanced than the LC300. Brand new, all of them are covered under manufacturer's warranty and if you really care about resale, well that theory is really out of the window for the past 2 years and will continue to be the same for used car market for years to come.

    • @Jillianda
      @Jillianda Před 2 lety

      The main reason as I have tried to explain is that if any adventure is in your sights and feel the need to go on any type of off road situation, the German rivals to this car are absolutely pointless. You are right about resale at the moment, but most European cars once they get a few miles on the odometer, are pretty well down the tube for selling them at a decent price. If you have a Country estate, or any sense of adventure other than main street in Toorak Landcruiser is the obvious choice. Your comment about extremely low tech is one of sarcasm and a touch of jealousy in there as they are far from low tech, or you don't own one obviously......Explain to me what technology in this vehicle is lacking, compared to my Range Rover, the only thing that it's lacking is the adjustable air suspension. There also needs to be a line drawn between technology and what is failsafe when it comes to outback travel which is something you fail to realise.

    • @edgarchieng2130
      @edgarchieng2130 Před 2 lety

      @@Jillianda have you seen their surround view camera system? It’s a joke compared to BMW, Audi, Mercedes, it’s like peeping through a pinhole camera. The infotainment itself and UI is absolute crap, have you even tried any of the UI/UX from the German rivals? Have you experienced the extremely well engineered ZF8HP transmission compared to the flog from Toyota? It’s like comparing Apple iPhone against the cheapest crappiest Android phone in the market, yeah it does everything the iPhone can but just terrible execution. The point of this video still stand, this model range in review is spec’ed for on road, it does not have the factory design to be driven to a condition no other German rivals couldn’t, without mods such as wheels, front bar etc.

    • @Jillianda
      @Jillianda Před 2 lety

      @@edgarchieng2130 If you seriously think that a BMW can drive under off road conditions by adding a bar and wheels then that just gives me the idea that you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about and that is seriously laughable. You have shot yourself in the foot with a remark like that. As I said, I have not only driven them, I have owned them have you? Taking the view of a journalist in a short drive isn't the same a owning one. Do you own a 300 series ZX Sahara, not the lower spec models, or a BMW X5/X6 or a Q7/8? Just because the Infotainment is lagging isn't a reason to say it's low tech. I think we have to agree to disagree. Get back to me when you own one and not just read about them. I certainly won't be buying a vehicle based on a rear view camera...I could add the same argument and go to the aftermarket to address this point.

    @ 17:40 "they haven't changed that much it's the same platform as the 200-series"
    The 300-series rides on a brand new platform called TNGA-F. Everything on the LC300 has been fully redesigned. The new chassis is 20% more rigid (By utilizing the latest welding technologies) and the whole vehicle is 200kg lighter thanks to extensive use of aluminium (fenders, doors, bonnet, roof and tailgate). The 300-series features a newly developed high-mount double-wishbone front and trailing-link rigid-axle rear suspension system. The position of the rear shock absorbers has been optimized for improved ride comfort and steering stability. Fully redesigned off-road electronics (new AVS, redesigned Crawl Control, redesigned Multi-Terrain Select), new E-KDSS, brand new engines and 10-speed transmission and the list goes on. Nothing has been carried over from the 200-series.

There is no doubt this is overpriced, but you seem to just brush over crazy terrible offerings and design decisions for cars like the ranger, for example, the ranger low spec models are redesigned to remove basic features like cup holders and glove boxes, but that barely gets a mention, its fine apparently, you describe that car as having "no compromises", the fact they don't have even a front locker option on any model but the raptor is also brushed over. You don't seem to ask anything of ford, the fact they promised the ranger and everest would be "our bronco" for 2 years but didn't deliver any of the features offered standard on that car is ignored, same platform, but none of the new tech, no front locker, no swaybar disconnect, no 33, 35 or 37 inch wheels as factory options, no 3 inch suspension, same terrible towing on raptor, no effort to improve it with the larger suspension offered in the USA or the diesel v6 option on the raptor. That car is a no compromise according to you, but the landcruiser is garbage, yes toyota fanboys can be the worst, but how was your ranger review anything but a ford fan service video in comparison?

      Adrian I am probably the only one who has mentioned you don’t get as nice an interior on the lower trims of the Ranger. I await your comparison review of the two - can’t wait to see what you have to say!

      @@CarSauce Dont take it the wrong way, i like your review style, but it is genuine feedback, I think if you watched this review and the ranger review you did side by side and your tone and discussion of similar points, you would see there is a significant difference. You repeatedly claim the ranger is a game changer and destroys the competition, that it has no compromises etc, but the reality is (as someone who wanted to buy the ranger or everest, based on the promises ford made about it's offroad capabilities) they didn't move the needle at all in terms of actual offroad equipment. You are very right to criticise the fuel filter location on the landcruiser, you are right to be critical in your reviews of it while the media pack heaped praise on it unequivocally, but you seem to have joined the pack on the ranger and not asked anything of them. I might just be butt hurt because i was very much looking forward to the ranger and everest and am very disappointed in its lack of ANY serious offroad features, but I prefer your reviews and if i could choose how the content i watch was presented, I would like you to be evenly critical (not negative, critical) of different brands as a content producer I enjoy. I've been waiting 10 years for an australian spec 4x4 to actually offer more capability, they all promise it, they all deliver it in other markets, but not here. Here we froth about every new dual cab with nothing more than a single rear locker and a slight bump to power and torque, that is why they keep getting away with the same nothing spec and building low tier models by taking things out needlessly rather than adding genuine benefit to the upper spec models.

    Burtally honest. In my eyes the new lc300 has no off road capability unless you willing to spend 30k+ to cut the body open and modify the whole bottom setup. The truth is people who spends that sort of money will never do that kind of things.
