Saw him in 1987 and he killed me. He single handedly turned me into a blues freak, saw him 40 or 50 times in Chicago, never disappointed. Seriously, I would plan my month around Son Seals gigs back in the day. This video is freaking golden, wish that more video of Son Seals could surface.
I think it was 1986, I flew from home in Seattle, just to see Son Seals perform at a small club called, B.L.U.E.S. on North Sheriden Ave. in Chicago. He had recently released the "Live and Burning" album on I think Alligator Records. BEST live show I ever saw. Unique vocal and playing style, great songwriter. One of my top favorite guitarists in the world.
B.L.U.E.S. was the place about then, used to go 3-4 nights a weeks and is where I first saw/heard Son. Knocked me out and I still remember the chills I got when he played this song the first time I saw him there.
B.L.U.E.S. in Chicago has been my favorite bar since I saw son seals some 30 plus years ago but I believe it's on north Halsted just down the rd from Kingston Mines
I saw son a few years before he passed playing at the Grand Emporium in Kansas City Mo. I was sick with a bad cold, but had to see him. He blew me away and it was one of the greatest evenings of my life. Thankyou Son
I discovered Son Seals in '97. I purchased the 'Live and Burnin' CD. There is no one else for me but Son Seals for emotional soul blues which is where the blues comes and the blues is how these feelings are sung -- and he did it the best. Hoop As a tribute to Son Seals I wrote the blues song 'Blues the Language of the Soul' thnks again to Son Seals. If thre is a video of Son performing 'Call My Job' I would greatly appreciate it to be posted. Thanks Hoop
The only time I was fortunate enough to catch Son Seals was at the 1st annual Berghoff Blues festival in Wisconsin. Made the drive for the blues, but really to see him. A short time after getting a signature, I leaned on the stage and watched him and the band let it rip to close out the festival. All the way home, and for the next three days, my ears wouldn't stop ringing. Needless to say that's the only time where it felt good. I really miss Son to this day.
This Video is AMAZING!!! This is exactly how I remember Mr. "BAD AXE" Son Seals! Missing you Son...........RIP!!! Your Legend LIVES ON...We will Never Forget YOU - Chicago has a Hole in its Soul without You!!!
First time I saw Son was late 70's @ Chicagofest. He opened for Muddy Waters, but Mud was in the hospital and couldn't make it so Son played about 4 hours. He completely blew away everyone there. It was a SRO show and I was dead f'ing center with my elbows on stage. I'll never forget it...obviously. A great loss to the blues....some trivia...he played DRUMS on the classic Albert King LP - Live Wire/Blues Power.
Great. This is the kind of performance that made me fall i love with the blues. I saw son many times. RIP. Tricia, you should be proud. Alan Paul, Guitar World
Love Son Seals. Got very saddened when I'd heard that he crossed over. Wish he could have stayed with us a little longer, always hoped to see catch him in another concert.
Son - the most underrated Bluesman. He's my fav !
Thanks to a brother Son Sesls was the first blues guy I was turned on to. Been loving the blues ever since
One of the best blues acts in the world. Son Seals was one of the really great blues musicians, and his band always sounded fantastic.
Son Seals IMHO was Alligator Records brightest star. And they had some serious stars and bragging rights too.
He ain’t called the “bad axe “for nothin. Awesome.
