So sad... Brandon Routh did a great job as Clark/Superman. But the script wasn't up to the actor.

Routh was an OK Superman, in a terrible Superman movie. I like him much better as the Atom in the CW-verse, though.

Brandon Routh gave the best rendition of Clark among all movie and tv superman, He did better his is more natural than the latest Superman only that there was no clear direction for those people on the top. They got a big mistake to take a Director that already have a franchise, writing story not so bad it still can be improved, Brandon have great cast of supporting actors not to mention the Villain Kevin Spacey played as Luthor was way better than the actor now, the only actor there that sucks is kate bosworth her acting is 1 dimensional. I feel really bored on Henry Cavill's acting.
B Miller I actually loved 'Superman Returns'. I saw that movie in theaters when I was around 9 and was enamored with it ! In my opinion, a much better Superman movie than Man of Steel.
yeah the scene where he saves the plane at the beginning is still my favorite superman scene of all time to this day.

The Tv series (not smallvill) was the best! The movies you gotta mix em up, the charm of reeve, the story from man of steel and the action from this, i know there wasnt alot but the bits that were, were on point! the lex from.... ermm forget lex.

I totally respect that the final challenge of the film was an inanimate object. Every superhero movies ends in a big boss battle, it was cool of them to do something different. Being a hero isn’t only about defeating high power villains, it’s about saving the world.
And now Brandon Routh is set to play Superman again for Crisis on Infinite Earths. Hell yeah!

the story after Superman Returns:
after waking up from his coma, Superman started to lose his powers, then after a while, his powers were completely gone. so he left Metropolis and changed his name to Ray Palmer. he moved to Star City and built the Atom suit

It might be boring, but I still find Superman Returns to be a pretty beautiful movie. See it as a drama instead of an action movie, and it suddenly fits in place. The "superman being awesome" parts are really awesome, too.
I actually really like this movie, I thought it was beautifully shot and was a nice homage to Christopher Reeve and the Original superman films.

I actually liked Superman returns and also found it boring, compared to Christopher Reeves' version of Superman.
This was actually my favorite superman movie, to me it was the most comic accurate superman. I didn’t like Clark Kent and Lois Lane’s interaction in the movie though.

Brandon Routh was the best thing in this movie. The fact he got the blessing of Reeves wife was just sweet. He looks like he was built from some bizarre comic book DNA. He's built for this. I wish they'd give him more to work with in Legends of Tomorrow.
Well, a few years later you got your wish, Brandon Routh played Superman again in one of the best parts of the *Crisis on Infinite Earths* Arrowverse crossover...
Not a great crossover, the ones before were much better ( *Elseworlds* and *Crisis on Earth-X* in particular), but the great cameos and callbacks to earlier shows/movies were a treat...

fun fact: in the original comic series, one of clarks powers as a kryptonian was having a much higher functioning brain that basically gave him "super persuasion" - in short, he fooled everyone into not thinking he was Superman which is why he wore no mask...which they realized is way too o.p and it just became a huge meme of itself
This is honestly my favorite Superman movie. Tho I haven't seen Man of Steel yet. It's a more mature take on the story. And it just feels real. Sure, it slows down once in a while, but that'll only bother you if you're watching for the action. The slowing down parts are very important to a good story, and they give context to the fights and action
I’ll say it... I love this freaking movie! It’s a perfect character piece on Superman and I love everything about it.

True. Eisenberg was awful. He didn't even feel like Lex Luthor.
Eisenberg was an amalgamation of the business man Luthor and the mad scientist Luthor. The latter one has not been used that much in the other media, so it should be understandable why it was hard to recognize that aspect of him.

After the amazing plane sequence the film just starts going downhill. It's a shame because I can see the potential it has and we know Bryan Singer can deliver great superhero films

I loved this film. The part where Martha Kent is outside the hospital and doesn't go in, I thought showed how tough she is. Gotta be a tough momma to raise Superman.
There is one sequence that I love in SR : when he's in space, listening to everyone's "prayers" and appears to be so sad about it. No text, no dialogues, just his facial expression says it all : depressed of all this sadness and nothing he can really do about it. It's cristal clear compared to all the BS Superman tries to explain in BvS.

Brandon Routh got a raw deal, man. I enjoy his Supes over Henry Cavill. All Cavill seems to do is scowl and yell.

I personally loved Superman Returns. It's too bad they decided to reboot it instead of giving it a sequel.
Me to, I can see why other people wouldn't like it but I loved it
+TheComicCrafter -- You're not the only one! I left the theatre mostly satisfied, thinking "There can be good Superman movies again! They have a great cast! They just need to _do better_ next time."
Any criticisms I have, I also have of the Zack Snyder films. (For example: *Water is boring.* There is no exciting way to save someone from drowning. I like to BE in the ocean, not LOOK at it!)
_Returns_ had to do a lot of "setup" chores, but the sequel could have brought in a superpowered foe to match Superman's power, and let loose with some heavy action for high stakes.
Kevin Spacey was about perfect. For all the criticisms about "real-estate schemes", what's better than owning and ruling your own continent? More importantly, it was true Luthor genius that he worked out the secret of Kryptonian crystals, and adapted it to work with green Kryptonite. That's STILL brilliant!
The two Snyder movies have only rehashed popular old stories. (Henry Cavill does his best with the scripts he's given. I just hate the end products, which is Zack Snyder's fault.)
I'd like to see a mixed cast from both _Returns_ and _Man of Steel._ Brandon Routh as Superman, but Amy Adams as Lois. DEFINITELY Spacey as Luthor, but Russell Crowe as Jor-El (if he appears), likewise Michael Shannon as Zod (if he appears), and I could go either way on Perry White. Frank Langella was good, but Laurence Fishburne was no slouch, either. Dammit, the Snyder films had a great _cast,_ but the films sucked _anyway!_ But even though Henry Cavill has his moments, I'd much rather go with Brandon Routh. Singer would direct again, of course, but he'd have to agree to more action.
A cameo from Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne would be pretty sweet, too.
TheComicCrafter the reason why superman returns failed for fans not critics is because of these reasons: doing the same lex luthor plan in 1978 just reversed, 95% of the dialogue is the same dialogue, superman getting beat up by three nameless dudes, and superman battling an island of kryptonite there are so many other ideas lex luthor can think but the best you can do is make is real estate again? Now don't get me wrong brandon was great as supes and kevin spacey as well and it's a technically well made movie in terms of editing, cinematography and soundtrack but the story is literally the same from 1977 and they said this movie takes place after superman 2 now if they straight up said it was a reboot nobody would complain but they sold it as a sequel when it really wasn't other than having the kid (it just wasn't enough)
This was the first superman movie that i saw as a kid and i liked the superman character he is not only my favorite DC superhero but superhero. In comix in general and ibsaw the first superman movie (1970s) and i thlight i was good but boring
If they had given it a sequel I think he'd have been more well received, I mean look how many people begged for Batman v Superman to happen with Bale and Routh..

It's obvious this film isn't great it kind of felt it didn't lead up to anything that spectacular but apart from that I love it. I thought it was a good blend of Christopher reeves superman whilst also creating its own style. Kevin spacey was great as lex Luther the cinematography was beautiful and there was also the whole lois, sups and the other guy conflict and all in all I just really really enjoy this film

***** Are you kidding me? BvS looks like a convoluted mess put together by a 3 year old...At least Superman Returns made sense as a movie. I only liked the first 10 min of BvS, then it gets F*cking boring and you start asking yself when something is going to happen...then finally the kidnapping and the battle begins, what should be the best moment was total crap. And the movie gets worse and worse until the end, especially the end. I could rant about BvS for like 3 hours, but I will only say if you liked it good for you, I guess...
Thomas 94 BvS had some really good parts to it. Affleck did Batman really well, and most of the Batman stuff was fairly entertaining. Eisenberg was simply amazing, his backstory, the motivations of the character, the acting, just great. Superman was probably the weakest part of the film, and that ending was horrible.
At least it didn't make me literally go to sleep mid movie like Superman Returns did.

don't know what to say , you have bad taste in movies . it's ok though , don't feel excluded, many are like you nowadays
one reason and one reason only: It's the same movie as Superman 1977 same dialogue, same shots just with 2006 effects if you are gonna say that this is a sequel to the the donner superman then make a sequel not a movie with the same dialogue and plot. The only thing different was the kid but it wasn't enough different also superman getting beat up by 3 nameless dudes like it was a high school movie really didnt help (it's a well made movie but they literally rehashed superman 1977 only with better effects)

I agree. I think they were trying to finish the storyline of Christopher Reeve's Superman, and pretend Superman 3 and 4 never happened. Why, because Reeve had died after a heroic struggle, and he was a nice man. I think this story did a nice job at that task.

Am I the only one that loved Superman Returns and thinks that Brandon Routh was and will be the best Superman after Reeve?
Now, I thought it was pretty boring.. But now that Man of steel and BvS happened, I realise it's a lot better than what we have now. It should have only been a bit more fun and upbeat and it would have been great!
I loved it because it felt like watching Superman all over again, same sort of feeling Star Wars 7 gives me. It may be a rut, but I'll be damned if it's not comfortable and plush in that rut.
My last display name was too long exactly. It was full of references to the comics, and past movies. Superman was saving people left and right, it was bright, no dead people. It was truly a SUPERMAN film.
