  • My bad for the late upload this time, whoops. Anyway, Tangled and Frozen. Which is better? One of the great debates of modern Disney. Frozen really did change the game. But can Tangled compete with that? Which Princess film rules the roost? That's what we talk about today. Enjoy.

    Sorry, but gotta go with Tangled. Nobody can deny that they both have equally incredible levels of quality as far as animation, soundtrack, and voice acting performances. However, Tangled wins as far as the general plot, villain, and even side characters. Tangled’s arc is slightly simpler but is arguably easier to follow, Hans doesn’t even compare to Mother Gothel, and few side characters overstay their welcome and become annoying over time.

      Most Disney films have great voice actors, and most of their musicals are hits, to be honest. Plus since Hans is a twist villain, it'd be ubfair to compare him and Gothel--plus he didn't need to be a villain for Frozen to be as good as it was.

    Eugene's death was way more impactful than Anna's death because Tangled actually spent plenty of time developing Eugene's relationship with Rapunzel. Eugene and Rapunzel had much more memorable moments together compared to Anna and Elsa. Also Frozen's pacing isn't very good. It spends too much time setting up the plot and not enough time in the adventure aspect. And once Elsa kicks Anna out of Elsa's ice palace, the movie is practically just wasting time just to get to Anna's death.

    Tangled had the bigger budget because of a few reasons, 1 it was the studios 50th animated feature, 2 it took over 14 years to make, and 3 they created new technological advances, learning from scratch how to animated 70 feet amount of hair, seriously every frame of Rapunzels hair is her length!!!

    People always say Frozen broke ground with how she didn't marry the prince, but honestly they just pigeonholed Anna into essentially the same relationship as most princesses.
    Heaven forbid a girl have to choose between two good men. No. One has to be evil so she only has one soul mate.
    And, sure she spent a day with Kristoff and like when hiking and stuff, which is more than we can say for her and Hans, but it was still only a day.
    And if you say, well, they didn't get married in the end, well, there are several princess movies where they don't actually get married at the end of the movie.

    • @kristinahuchison2511
      @kristinahuchison2511 Před 27 dny

      Same! I don’t get why Frozen got praised because “romance or a kiss isn’t what saves the princess” and focused on sisterly love instead. Uh, Pocahontas was literally the first princess who was the hero in her movie, and she didn’t even go with her man in the end. As much as the ending of Pocahontas broke my heart, I actually liked how Pocahontas doesn’t abandon her people over a man she didn’t know that long, regardless how much they loved each other. And Mulan doesn’t really have a boyfriend for a majority of the movie, her love was for her father and was even worried he wouldn’t accept her after she literally saved an entire country from a vicious warlord even the emperor couldn’t stop. As for the sibling love, Brother Bear, Lilo and Stitch and arguably Cinderella 3 all had much better stories about siblings and their love helping pull them through the hard times. Kenai literally chose to stay a bear over going back to his people because of how enamored he became with his new little brother Koda. And Nani gave up a promising career and stuff just to raise Lilo. Even Encanto had a more realistic portrayal with Mirabel and Isabella, showing how Mirabel actually helped Isabella’s insecurities of always having to be perfect to impress Abuela.
      But yeah. All Anna cared about was finding a man to settle down with. She literally threatened to cut ties with Elsa too. And she and Kristoff spent the same amount of time she did with Hans, so I don’t get why Elsa doesn’t have a problem with Kristoff??

    I also prefer Tangled to Frozen, though I do accept that both are extremely good movies. But what I do find off about Frozen was the main villain's plan which is...weird when you think about it, not just for the fact MatPat pointed out he would have remained prince even if he married into the royal family, but for the fact up till his surprise reveal, everything he does is just to...morally right, there's holding up a mask and then there's stopping someone else from killing Elsa with a crossbolt, if he wanted her dead, he could have just 'been to slow' or 'yelled instead of moved'. I have a feeling the writers put more stock into the surprise then the substance but other then that, it's a 8/10 movie for me.

    I can't necessarily choose, there are lots of things Tangled did better, and lots of things frozen did better. Both deal with mental health issues which I think is something that made both movies do so well. While you may not automatically think "Oh hey this deals with mental health!" You can really relate to the characters of both films. Rapunzel deals with manipulation and Elsa deals with anxiety and a variety of other things I can't quite diagnose. I will say Mother Gothel's gaslighting techniques definitely make her the dominant villain, and in my opinion the dominant villain not only out of the 2 but in Disney.

    7:45, actually they save each other. And since apparently we’re still framing our discussion of fairy tale movies this way, it’s time for a trip down memory lane. Pinocchio (1940) and Bambi (1942) both had male protagonists rescued by maternal figures. In Peter Pan (1953) Tinker Bell nearly got herself killed rescuing Peter from Captain Hook’s bomb.In The Sword in the Stone (1963) Wart is rescued by a girl squirrel who personally fights off the wolf trying to eat him. The catalyst for the plot of The Little Mermaid (1989) is Ariel saving the human prince from drowning. In Beauty and the Beast, Beast saves Belle from a pack of wolves but Belle rescues the Beast from the forest and snowstorm and even though the Beast fights Gaston it’s ultimately Belle whose kiss saves the Beast’s life and breaks his curse. In Pocahontas (1995), Pocahontas saves Captain Smith’s life. In Hercules (1997), Megara dies to save Hercules (though he later rescues her from the underworld) in Mulan (1998) Mulan saves her father from having to risk life and limb by joining the army on his behalf and becomes saviour of all of China. Let’s stop acting as if Frozen (2013) were somehow revolutionary. And for the record, in Tangled (2010), both Flynn and Rapunzel save each other at different points. Flynn by cutting Rapunzel’s hair and Rapunzel by saving Flynn’s life with her healing thing.

    For me it is a stupid debate since tangled and frozen both have a different theme and story
    Tangled is about freedom and the love between Rapunzel and Eugene as Rapunzel change Eugene while frozen is about sisterly love and how it is just as powerful as romantic love. The characters of Rapunzel and Anna is similar on the surface but Rapunzel is fighting for freedom while Anna is fighting to be with her sister. Elsa and Eugene are also very different. Maximus and Sven are not similar at all, Maximus is a guard horse that grows to have a bond with Eugene while Sven is just a best friend there to help Kristoff overcome his closed off personality, Olaf is there to provide comedy in frozen while Pascal is there to make that Rapunzel is safe because there best friends. Hans and Gothel are both great but different sure they are both plot twist villains but Hans wants the kingdom while Gothel just wants youth and there personalities are different. The songs on both movies are fire but should not be compared because they have very different genres and themes in each song. Tangled is underrated and sure has a great animation but should not be compared to frozen since they are not the same in theme and if the plot of adventures things are similar it is normal and is not a basis when comparing since by that logic we would compare almost every story ever.
    My opinion

    • @adamsanders2270
      @adamsanders2270 Před 2 měsíci +1

      I would disagree that they are completely different. In fact I would say the major themes are Nearly identical in many ways. Both showcase Someone who is isolated by a controlling adult figure. Both point to the need for connection. Both say that your difference (magical hair or ice power) could be used against you, but they can also be the thing that you use to enrich the world.
      I think Tangled is told from the point of view of the optimist while frozen is told from the point of view of the pessimist.
      I think your view toward life may impact which film you prefer. For someone who has been through much hardship and difficulties and wrestles with bitterness, Frozen may speak more. From someone who has more light and hope that life can be beautiful they will gravitate towards Rapunzel.

    @kristinahuchison2511 Před rokem +9

    I strongly disagree with your last opinion about Anna realizing she didn’t need a handsome prince. Merida flat out basically hated men, and Mulan struggled with honoring her family the way she was expected to, and Pocahontas was supposed to quietly marry the man her father chose for her. Also, Anna isn’t the first princess who is the hero either. Pocahontas literally endangered herself to protect John Smith from her dad, not knowing if he’d kill his own daughter for this war, seeing how mad he was at her.
    -Soundtrack: Tangled. All the songs are very enjoyable and aren’t annoying, legit reprisal of Mother Knows Best is super chilling and I used to sing it a ton when Tangled came out. Also I See the Light is platinum level. It is LEAGUES better than that overrated one hit wonder Let it Go. Only part that wowed me was her willing a castle into existence and the cape. It takes a lot more than one song to make a movie. Frozen does have more of a Broadway style soundtrack like the Renaissance movies, but Fixer Upper was seriously as annoying as Guy Like You from the Hunchback of Notre Dame. God I hate those trolls
    -Animation and art. Despite I’m still disappointed the preview with Raps using her hair like a ninja to knock Flynn out wasn’t used, its still so adorable. The colors are gorgeous and beautifully used, and the world feels real too instead of looking like Rainbow Land or something. In a way it reminds me a lot of Pocahontas which had a creative use of various colors for different scenes to emote different emotions, like in Savages red and purple for hatred and violence, while John is in blue while watching the native’s war dance, showing he is against the war. Anyways, Frozen I felt isn’t nearly as gorgeous or vibrant. If anything it used a lot of grays aside the wintery scenes, so almost making it depressing
    -Princess: Rapunzel vs Anna. Anna is literally a dumber copy of Rapunzel. Raps didn’t even know anyone else aside mother, and she doesn’t blindly fall for Flynn’s charms and smolder, even when he kept trying to flirt her into giving his satchel back. Anna literally acted so immature in certain scenes, like confronting Elsa during a royal party in an overcrowded ballroom, making Elsa even more nervous and frustrated. She literally screamed at her to just say why she isn’t opening up. Hence Elsa couldn’t hold her boiling anger anymore and unintentionally lashed out at her. Plus she fell in love with Kristoff just as fast as Hans, so she didn’t even learn ANYTHING from her mistakes. But that’s ok because she turns into an ice cube to save her crybaby of a sister. Also, Elsa and Anna’s sibling story is by far the most boring of the ones Disney did, Lilo and Nani and Kenai, his brothers and Koda. Plus Rapunzel is a lot smarter than she gets credit for, given she taught herself everything in the opening song, and figured out she was the princess, even Flynn hadn’t figured it out
    -Flynn Rider vs Kristoff. Flynn is the king of the Disney princes, enough said. Kristoff imo is just as boring as the classic princes because of how random his story is, being adopted by rocks, really? 🙄
    -Maximus vs Sven. Max is a bloodhound after the kingdom’s most wanted. Sven is literally the dumber version of him who is like Kristoff’s “dog” Plus Max even has a hilarious character arc too
    -Pascal vs Olaf. Pascal, despite being more of a minor character, is Raps best friend, and is ready to fight for her despite his size. Olaf is literally the annoying kid in the story, talking during serious moments and ruining the tone. I’m not kidding, he’s almost as annoying as the gargoyles from Hunchback.
    -Mother Gothel vs Prince Hans. Mother Gothel is by far one of the best Disney villains ever. She’s on the same level as Frollo, despite I think he was a bit more terrifying. Hans’ betrayal and twist villain thing was so stupid and random. All it was, was forcing Anna into a stupid love triangle. Should’ve just kept Elsa the villain
    -Story. I strongly disagree with how stereotypical Tangled’s was. The way Rapunzel and Flynn’s friendship is written kinda made me question at first if they were just going to be friends in the end. And I feel they had much better chemistry and growth for such a short time than most Disney couples, relying on one romantic date and BAM, they’ve found their soulmate. They become friends first then slowly build up their romance, and they didn’t even get married in the end! I felt in a way Frozen had too many things going on, and felt kinda loosely sewn together, which is why I don’t really like Anna and Kristoff nearly as much as other Disney couples.
    *Overall, Tangled wins in EVERY category. And this movie I believe would’ve done so much better if it had been released later, instead of having to unfairly compete against nostalgic titans. It could’ve easily been the next Lion King, and I’m appalled how it didn’t even get nominated for best animated feature. The movie critics are probably the same ones who f***ing complained about the historical inaccuracies in Pocahontas instead of just watching it as historical fiction. I don’t even get how the hell everyone LOVED Frozen. Even the first time I watched it, I found it meh to bleh. It just was so disappointing considering how popular Let it Go was. Frozen is probably one of my least favorite Disney movies, while Tangled is second, to the point it ALMOST beat the Lion King.

I know it’s definitely not underrated, but more simply overshadowed and personally I gag at the fact Frozen is getting ANOTHER sequel. Like come on Disney, let it go, literally. Like I’m not kidding the second one just kinda doesn’t fit right, specially why they felt the need to explain why Elsa has powers and Anna doesn’t. And I felt the sequel was made to victimize their parents Agnar and Iduna to show “they weren’t truly terrible parents” despite Iduna literally hides the truth of herself until AFTER their marriage.

    Tangled! Hands down! Tangled!
    It has much focus on the characters, Rapunzel and Eugene (or Flynn) and the story! The lantern scene is so amazing, even reviving Eugene’s death scene is beautiful! The humour is so much better than Frozen because it’s more creative! It gives character development and it gives Rapunzel and Eugene get to know each other throughout their adventure, of course Anna and Kristoff did that but you see what Anna and Hans did! They met, fall in love and already planning to get married when they literally just met on the same day! While with Rapunzel and Eugene are planning to get married after for a few years. With Hans being the villain, it came out of no where, like he literally fell off a boat but then he looked at Anna very lovingly. I’ve heard that before the making of Frozen, Elsa was going to be the original antagonist but of course that changed…

    9:44, Tangled by every possible metric. In 2010, Tangled had Mother Gothel truly shine as a villain. Then Wreck it Ralph had King Candy/Turbo as a plot twist villain to create time for Ralph to shine as a protagonist and it was a well-executed twist and King Candy an interesting villain. Then Frozen came along with Prince Hans as the villain. The only interesting thing about Prince Hans is the plot twist that he was a villain. And it wasn’t a well-executed plot twist. Then Big Hero 6 had Robert Callaghan as a plot twist villain who was honestly terrible as an antagonist. Then Zootopia had a good villain but because she was plot twist villain she didn’t get as much of a chance to shine as other villains did. Then Moana had no villains just antagonist. Then Wreck it Ralph 2 had no villains just antagonists. Then Frozen 2 had no villains just antagonists. Raya and the Last Dragon had antagonists but it’s debated whether or not they qualify as villains. Encanto had no villains, just antagonists. Strange World had no villains just antagonists.
    The last Disney Animation movie that had a good old fashioned villain was Tangled with Mother Gothel. And we’ve now seen enough of the “not evil just misguided” trope to know that Disney should bring back villains at this point. (I think a big part of why Big Jack Horner in Puss in Boots 2 was so popular was because animation enthusiasts were sick of the antagonists being “not evil just misguided”). So villains are an area wherein Tangled is better than Frozen and its imitators. Also, making fairy tale movies about why fairy tales are absurd and unrealistic just doesn’t cut it because people know that fairy tales are absurd and unrealistic but still embrace them anyway because fairy tales have something to offer and I don’t see fundamental value in seeking to deconstruct that.

    Tangled is the superior film in almost every conceivable category:
    - Rapunzel is the epitome of the feminine imperative. Kind, Cheerful, optimistic, endearing, a light in the dark world that brings people from darkness to light.
    - the message of the films are similar, but tangled delivers on them with so much more sincerity and gravitas. The self sacrificial love of Flynn is more potent. Flynn could have been saved by Rapunzel at the end, but at what cost? He would simply be like Gothel who used her for her hair. Instead he determines that her freedom and joy are more valuable to him than his life. He wants her to have her dream because she taught him the beauty of life and realized that her light needed to be shown to the world even if it meant he wasn’t in it.
    Contrast that with Elsa and Anna. Anna jumps In front of the sword for elsa. But she would have died either way. So it isn’t a self sacrifice. Also in that moment killing elsa may have saved the kingdom so her actions were largely placing her sister infront of the entire world.
    - the idea of moving away from a romantic love story is fine and there is merit in it, but we also realize that love is one of the most fulfilling aspects to any life and the form of a family provides tremendous meaning in our world. So while there is validity acting as though love, romance, family are silly little tropes is to deny that these things point to some of life’s most fulfilling realities. To truly love and be loved by someone who puts you before themselves is world changing.
    - Hans is a terrible villain. He is actually the hero of the story in many ways and they turned him bad in order to provide a foil for the story. Elsa is clearly the villain of the movie who is redeemed at the end. But Hans has no reason to do any of the evil things he did and with the exception of wants to kill Anna his actions toward Elsa are justified.
    - sound track is the only place where I would be willing to concede to Frozen, but it’s not as far as some may say. Also I think Frozen loses credit because it’s most popular song is a betrayal of the movies message. Let it go is Elsa saying, “I don’t need anyone” this message is contradictory to the end In which she realizes that she needs her sister and the kingdom needs to be opened up. So why would you make the most powerful song that everyone remembers and sings antithetical to your primary message?! Could it be that it was the actual message you wanted to portray all along?
    -In summary, Tangled is bright, beautiful and compelling. It promotes true sacrificial love, the heart of parents who refuse to give up on their lost child, the beauty of a woman who refuses to be jaded by a dark world, and an unforgettable setting that is bright and cheerful. To hold onto the light.

    I really like tangled and rewatch it at least once a month. I feel like the characters are just developed so much better, especially the villains. it just didn't make sense why Anna didn't have anyone to hang out with when Elsa was locked up, I mean she could've easily gone out and been with her community that whole time after parents died??? with repunzel, it made sense why she was locked up in isolation. plus mother gothel is one of the most realistic villains Disney has imo. and she has her iconic song, 'Mother Knows Best.' That song deserves appreciation, y'all. overall frozen is more stressful, while tangled has more of a singalongy feel. (just my thoughts. keep in mind I'm a 2000's kid so the let it go saturation was through the roof for me. I got burnt out so quickly on it.)

  • @roshanfey
    @roshanfey Před 2 měsíci +1

    7:37 i COMPLETELY disagree with this. that is NOT eugene's arc at all; eugene's arc is going from a wayward thief who lives by a self-centered facade, to an honest guy who chooses compassion and selfless love. rapunzel's arc is learning to be confident enough in herself to discover her heart's desire and the truth about her life despite her abusive, manipulative, gaslighting mother wanting to keep her locked away from the world. none of this is somehow less meaningful / profound just because these two character arcs are intertwined by a romantic element. to say it's just "eugene gets the girl" and "rapunzel is secondary" is an insult to the sheer bravery, strength, and determination rapunzel displays throughout tangled, especially as a survivor of domestic abuse and human trafficking. rapunzel and eugene save each other. they are on equal footing, they both give and take, they help each other grow. it's not love at first sight, but it's beautifully developed romance, and they only get married years down the line. eugene says it himself in the beginning: it's rapunzel's story. and it's one about breaking free from abuse before anything else, then exploring the world, and then and only then making a future with eugene.
    THAT is progressive. THAT is resonant. but there's nothing progressive about elsa running away from her problems time and time again, giving in to her fears, making selfish decisions with no eventual apology, not trusting her loved ones with anything, pushing her only sister away so much so that she seeks refuge with a man she's just met, and being saved by that sister in the end. if anything, anna is always the hero of the story who learns and grows and saves the day, while elsa is the perpetual shy reserved damsel in distress who doesn't learn from her mistakes and, at this point, is primarily a product to market to make money... and ANNA is the one with a romance. being single doesn't have anything to do with being a role model of progress, strength, and independence. it's ironic that elsa is praised for being a "feminist icon" while rapunzel objectively has a stronger feminist story. the only precedent elsa set for princess characters is to only exist to sell merch. that is the least progressive thing a disney princess could represent.
    i'm so tired of the notion that romance makes a character "weaker" and "less progressive". if anything, societal assumptions that a romance automatically entails a paradigm of outdated gender roles are what's regressive. we really need more romances in media that break the mold, challenge the status quo, disregard expectations, and are HEALTHY. tangled set a great precedent for that.
    TLDR: tangled is much more progressive than frozen will ever be and our societal perception of romance needs a serious reform

    I haven’t started the video yet but definitely Tangled. In Frozen, Queen Elsa shirks her duty to the throne and abandons her kingdom in a time of crisis, which is par for the course for a Disney movie (I refer you to The Lion King) but in The Lion King, Nala actually calls Simba out on that behaviour. In Frozen, Elsa is called out for pushing people who care about her away but never for the fact that she neglects her duties to her subject peoples. (And that’s something which could have been done if there were a scene wherein Prince Hans before killing her decided to thank her and tell her if it weren’t for her then none of his evil plans would have ever been able to come to fruition). While the only interesting thing about Prince Hans as a villain is the plot twist that he is a villain, which isn’t a well-executed plot twist. While the whole “you can’t marry someone you just met” message was so heavy-handed as to be borderline obnoxious. There are good things about Frozen and it is a decent film but it also has serious flaws that it doesn’t make sense to ignore. And Tangled does not have those flaws. Tangled is the superior picture

    For the old style of princess being saved by some dude, they fall in love, yadda yadda.... Tangled is probably the best. It's just that while it's a fun variation on the old story, to me, it felt recycled and just polished up to look more modern. So while i could enjoy it, it didn't feel new to me. They set up this heartbreakingly tragic character and then kind of waste the potential by focusing on her sister who acts like a five-year-old, on a not so funny snowman and a twist that doesn't make any sense. I know it's Disney so they had to keep things relatively lighthearted, but if you start your movie with the traumatic backstory of one of your leads, you'd better commit to showing her journey properly. That being how frozen changed the formula for princess movies made by Disney. The question is was it a good thing, and I'd say no. I think making fun of the tropes is fine, but getting rid of them? Like the romance was just another part of the film and not the main focus? And subverting expectations is how to always make a movie? That line of thinking is why so much trash is made today.

Happily Never After already did the Cinderella marrying someone aside from the Prince thing and did it better. Wreck It Ralph already did a plot twist villain one year beforehand and did it better. Atlantis: The Lost Empire already did having an actual Queen being an important and active character. Mira Nova from Buzz Lightyear was already a Princess and an an action hero and not reliant upon a love interest. Early Disney movies had male protagonists rescued by maternal figures so the idea that it’s one of the first to deal with things aside from romantic love just doesn’t work. And it’s also worth noting that being different from previous movies is not inherently the same thing as being better than they were

    I couldn’t stand the character designs on Elsa and Anna-the long noses and tiny chins are how people usually draw faces before they learn about facial proportions. As a result, the characters are never quite as expressive as they could be. And the character animation in Frozen, while not bad at all, is not as fantastic as the acting on Rapunzel and Mother Goethel. They really come to life, as if their facial expressions and body language were observed from real people. I found myself believing that Mother Goethel actually does love Rapunzel in her own way, and it was all due to the animated acting. I think what gave Frozen the edge with audiences is the relationship between the two sisters at the core.

    I remember being very very excited when Frozen came out because I had fallen in love with Tangled and thought it was gonna be good too. I couldn't wait to watch it! My school then put it for us for a pizza party and I watched, and watched, and watched. I ended leaving the movie a bit irritated if I'm being honest. Then my parents rented it like a week or so later and I decided to give it another chance, but sadly, I kind of hated it. I did not find any of the characters charming, far from it, especially Olaf. That piece of sh*t. He pisses me off and I wanted him to die. Ana was... interesting to say the least. Sadly i didnt find her quirky nature cute whatsoever and just found her annoying. I thought the songs sounded awful because I just did not like how any of the singers sounded. The songs were catchy yes, but the singers... ugh. Something about their singing voices... the story was lame to me but then again I don't have a sister and just brothers so maybe that's why? Idk...
    Overall, I was really surprised Frozen blew up as much as it did because I did not have a good time whatsoever. I was even more annoyed when the damn song was everywhere!!! You couldn't run away!!! I was so surprised that it blew so much and Tangled barely got any attention. I haven't gone back to watch Frozen to see if my thoughts have changed since middle school and I don't plan any time soon. I always revisit Tangled from time to time tho and I still love it. The movie is so charming, I adore the romance, and absolutely love the songs, especially the flower song haha. I just love how Repunzel's va sings it. So yeah, I'm very very biased and will always pick Tangled any day

      Same. I was in college when Frozen came out, and I watched it on my laptop with some friends. I remember being pretty disappointed because of how insanely popular it was. Like it wasn’t straight up terrible, BUT it wasn’t this legendary masterpiece everyone praised it as. Like, I was expecting something along the lines of the Lion King or something. But no, it was actually pretty meh. Tangled definitely was one of my favorites when it came out and I really love the series it got too. I’m still a bit disappointed it never got an actual sequel, but I’d rather have a well crafted series serving as a sequel than a big screen sequel which can easily go wrong like so many of Disney’s movies like Frozen 2 or Ralph Breaks the Internet. Thank god I didn’t have kids or anything like that, so I wasn’t plagued with the song being everywhere. One of the reasons why Elsa was made a tragic character instead of a straight up villain was because of her design specifically (and the song obviously) but it was largely a marketing gimmick to get more kids to buy stupid toys of Queen Elsa, which is ironic considering Elsa isn’t the first Disney queen either. It’s literally Nala or Kida, whichever you prefer. I feel like Frozen is gonna be one of those movies that won’t age well over time, but it will always be an icon. Tangled will age better over time because its more mature and actually digs into some pretty dark stuff
