Sharon Davies and ex-Olympian athletes speak out over Scottish proposed changes to gender ID

- EX-Olympic athletes have today pleaded with MSPs not to make gender ID changes which could put off Scotland’s female “stars of the future” from sport - due to competing with male-bodied people.
Former swimmer Sharron Davies and long-distance runner Mara Yamauchi spoke out at an event in Edinburgh amid SNP-Green plans to make the process easier for trans people to change sex on their birth certificate.
The sportswomen-turned-campaigners warned “gender ideology” had “infiltrated the world of sport” at elite and grassroots level - and said this was leading to girls and women “self-excluding” from sport rather than “unfairly compete” against biological males.
The Scottish Government wants to remove medical checks for trans people seeking a Gender Recognition Certificate and cut the time to get a GRC from two years to six months.

Refuse to compete if there is a pretend woman in the contest. Sick of hearing about ‘trans’ anything. It’s a man pretending to be a woman. If more athletes, swimmers etc refused to compete against them, then this problem would soon be addressed. Why don’t they compete against each other and leave women’s competition to women !
Easier said than done. A lot of the US athletes and swimmers (for instance) are able to compete through college scholarships. If they refuse to compete they run the risk of being thrown off their courses

transgender, need to compete against one another. The physicality differences do not make it fair....a woman vs a 6ft ex male who now identifies as a woman....its not sportsmanship....

They are dealing with the problems Scots face. The Indyref2 campaign was launched on Monday thus fulfilling the manifesto promise that had them re-elected last May. The other parties campaigned to “stop a second referendum” and lost. Scotland cannot afford to stay in the UK and Scots will benefit greatly from having governments they actually vote for.

The SNP won 48% of votes cast in a PR system specifically designed to prevent majorities and foster cooperation and consensus. Boris won an unassailable 80 seat majority using FPTP having received just 43% of votes cast! Scots got the government in Hollyrood they voted for and a Tory UK government they haven’t voted for since 1955! And of course the affront to democracy that is the House of Lords is stuffed with UNELECTED legislators! You lot don’t know the meaning of democracy.

The Green Party won their votes fair and square and any cooperation with them does not negate the fact that the SNP won the election and now form the government. The referendum next October will be almost a decade from the first. All that time Scotland has been in the UK. The NO majority was respected destroying your claim that the, “SNP refuse to accept”, the result. Unionist parties campaigned last year to, “stop a second referendum” and lost. The SNP and Greens campaigned to have a second referendum and won. Scots can have a referendum every week if they vote for it. THAT is democracy! You know absolutely nothing about it.

Sport and competing is about a level playing field, about fairness. It’s simple. It’s basic. Men must not be allowed to compete against woman in womans category sports. A man will never become a woman. A woman will never become a man. This argument is more to do with the few that are fuelling this argument, because they make money from it. I have never heard a legitimate argument from anyone who disagrees with them. There's a documentary with Chelsea Ladies on DAZN CZcams, they talk about the effects on the body through the menstrual cycle and how to tailor training and diet at different stages. As well as the effect of going through male puberty on the body, they have the advantage of being able to train consistently through a month. It is not a level playing field and should not be allowed. Why not have events for trans athletes to compete against each other?
