    Ironically, he is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. By all accounts he is a really stand up guy, respectful and timid. A true family man. I had the privilege of meeting him once and I can vouch for that.
    Still wouldn't want to get tackled by him though.

    Dude what happens in the scrums only the forwards can ever tell you lol!! Beast is one of the best players in the modern era and possibly all time!! And one of the best gentlemen of the game and in life too by all accounts. With respect to all front rowers that can be looked at look at his Bok team mates in the front row too ... Malcolm Marx / Bongi Mbonangi / Steven Kitshoff / Vincent Koch / Frans Malherbe / Trevor Nyakane / Schalk Brits / ...... you should do for crazy Thor type strength Duane Vermeulen the No 8 for Boks and then the captain Sita Kolisi and Makozole Mapimpi and the stories these guys have been through as kids to be where they are .... honestly can make you cry ... well certainly many of us Bok supporters !!!!!

    A losehead prop is one of the front tow guys, whose head is exposed on the side of the scrum. Hence his called "Losehead"

  • @z.stone1320
    @z.stone1320 Před 6 měsíci

    The easiest way to remember the difference between loosehead prop and tighthead prop is left - loose, right - tight. Loose head always has there head on the out side while tighthead has it on the inside of the opposing prop

    Springboks always have the best scrums. Players in the scrums don't always get the recognition that they deserve. They work extremely hard and are mostly not the lime light try scorers, check out more Springbok scrums and front row players. Great entertainment

  • @stephdegoede8316
    @stephdegoede8316 Před rokem

    To imagine what happens in every complete scrum, think about it like this. On the point of contact (engage), the pressure that is created in terms of weight, is the same as basically having a mid-sized adult hippo on your shoulders. That lasts only a second, but after that it is like sustaining the weight of a mid-sized adult rhino for about 3-5 seconds.
    Now also imagine that you are basically participating a a synchronized wrestling match, where the props (what Beast played) are basically trying to out maneuver and hinge one another. Now imagine doing that 10-13 times over the span of 80 mins, while sprinting, jogging, tackling and lifting (around 120 kg or 260 lbs) 10-15 times in between… hitting about 40 rucks (per prop). And oh, you cannot lose your concentration, because you might have to catch and pass the ball. A prop is probably the most unique type of player in any sport in the world. At elite level they are all beasts. But Tendai, he was the king of the beasts. Thé Beast.

    When you see a scrum start to veer to the left or the right it is either because of the tight-head or loose-head prop losing their "bind" which is an effect of the opposing prop out scrumming them. Another symptom of losing your bind is when a scrum collapses to the ground. Beast was a genius when it came to scrumming. He could out-scrum virtually any opponent he faced. The position of prop is a very specialised position. Many props can only play from one side.
    Other South African props who played and still play at this level are Steven Kitshoff, Vincent Koch, Trevor Nyakane (he has become a much better player recently), Jannie du Plessis, Os (meaning Ox) du Randt and Frans Malherbe to name a few.
    Props are not only the front row of the scrum but have the ability to dismantle the opposition in the bind and are the driving force. They also play a crucial role in the maul which is mostly formed after a line out (that is when the ball is thrown in from the sideline and the locks are lifted in the air). Once the lock catches the ball they usually give the ball to a prop or flank who holds onto the ball and places themself at the back of the maul and carry the ball for as long as the maul is alive.
