    Sean, your idea to include the ID # at the beginning of each accessory’s name was brilliant, and allows all of them to show in the roster in the order that I assigned without needing to continually resort by TMCC ID. My IR sensor tracks, which are all numbered from 81 on were popping up ahead of my accessories, which was annoying. Thank you for that, and once again, for taking the time to do the entire series. It’s a tribute to your passion for the hobby and your willingness to share it with others. Nicely done!

    I can’t thank you enough. I don’t have any prior experience with train control systems. I think Lionel assumed Base3 customers already knew how to program and use it. Documentation was minimal. I now have a good working knowledge of the Base3 because of these videos. Thanks!😊

    Very interesting. The whole system is pretty cool and has me thinking about adding remote control to my layout. While glitches are an acceptable fact with new apps, the fact that they don't have all of the functions on the Cab-3, after all of this time, is a bit perplexing. Either way, I find it quite good, really. An excellent series and video, as always.

    I thought I submitted a comment but I don't see it here. Great series Sean. Lionel should consider the option to make the engine selection/startup more closely mirror the Cab2 experience vs having to go back a screen to do the startup. I noticed in the sensor track test you did that when it was first recognized, the engine was in all caps in the app, but when you reversed over the sensor track it redisplayed as mixed case. Then when you went back to the Cab3 engine screen, the engine name switched back to all caps. Thanks again for all your time on this!

    Thanks for doing this Sean. I am new to Legacy control system. No hand controllers. Just using base 3 app. Your video series is helping a lot. I tried reading the Legacy controller manual and it is sooo boring. 🙂

    The 3 zero above the throttle slide press and hold and you get the speed set. or it’s a double tap. I don’t really remember now.

    I was pretty frustrated/annoyed on Day 1 - thanks for all of the help you've done not only for me but the hobby as a whole! Reading the Legacy book helped a lot, and Lionel has been updating their control website. Wishful thinking but it would be cool to be able to arrange the buttons to your own personal preference or even label them like how Lionel shows in their documentation. Thanks again - OGR Rollsington

    Hi Sean, thanks again for your video. I think the speed limit is set on the white bar next to the throttle. Just tap it up or down to set the speed you want. Let me know if this works, thanks, Peter

    Sean, this series tutorial was excellent and I think you know that. You cut through the crap in a way Lionel could not have. I shied away from the Cab-2 in the day due its complexity but will acquire this to keep abreast of what will eventually be a very daunting system. It would be nice if Lionel threw into the box the printed Cab-2 instructions augmenting the Cab-3. Thank god my build in progress had no investment in the Cab-2 so starting from scratch seems easier. Cab-1L always at my side for quick button access.

    • @JohnKittle-u3r
      @JohnKittle-u3r Před měsícem +1

      I found that having a CAB2 actually helped me to understand the CAB3 app. If I was just starting without the previous knowledge as reference, it would be daunting. The only problem is that when something doesn’t work properly on CAB3 that we know did on CAB2, it gets frustrating. That’s what firmware updates are for though, so hopefully, Lionel is busy working on the next one. What’s great is that Sean’s outstanding series validates that the issues I’m seeing are actual issues, and not ID10t errors. 😂

      @@JohnKittle-u3r Thanks John and I completely agree. I came into Lionel's control system late in life (younger 50's) and felt Cab-2 was too daunting and with all Apple in the house, had little desire to return to anything Android; so here we are.
      I would agree with your assessment and know it will be very frustrating at times (I hate dealing apps and keep any and all at arms length). I'm getting into this knowing the system, if learned early, will lead to monumental additions to LCS going forward so time for me to jump in the deep end of the pool and swim with everyone else. With CZcams available, and a plethora of youth who will dissect this system for us old guys to understand, I will rely on them accordingly, Cab-1L at the ready to bail me out. Now that I've got a firm understating of LCS and are in the middle of a massive floor layout reconstruct, I'm quite excited over challenges of building custom wire looms in such a manner (visible) to be somewhat appealing. Gonna add sensor-track pieces now and LCS controllers for basic accessory function excited by the idea of operating them without kneeling to the floor.
      Let's see what comes of all.
      Thanks for your input and we all look forward to ironing these things out for some very exciting inclusions in the future; such as... a digital replication of an actual cab on iPad and inclusive camera built into the engineers cab for an actual engineers view!

  • @PhilBender612
    @PhilBender612 Před měsícem +1

    Hey Sean, I noticed only Legacy engines show up in the available roster when making a "train". Even though TMCC engines show up in the general or main Engine roster screen, they are not available in train making menu roster. Have you noticed the same? Will Lionel be addressing this? Thanks

    • @seanstraindepot
      @seanstraindepot  Před měsícem +1

      I don't have any TMCC's in a train, so not sure yet, will have to try it. There are some rules on mixing Legacy and TMCC engines in a train because they don't have the same speed steps.

    • @PhilBender612
      @PhilBender612 Před měsícem

      I found on the control.lionel site that Legacy control type Trains can be IDs 1-98 while TMCC control type Trains are limited to IDs 1-9. So when I named a train #40 Or any train number above 9, TMCC eng.s wont appear in the roster. Only legacy will. If you name the train 1-9, they'll all appear.

    54:30 Yup, this is one of my complaints. I still have to use the cab 1l to dial up the track power on my ZW which is pretty much 4 power masters inside the zw. The app will not accommodate that . I hope Lionel is working on this. So then Sean, you dont use a cab to turn you ZWs track power up? Because I noticed you have a few ZWs with command control built in(ZW-L or ZW-C)

    • @nightwolf081
      @nightwolf081 Před měsícem

      I had to switch my power master to “conv” and then address the power master like you would on a cab1. 0 turns off the power and 9 turns on the power. This works for me.

      I noticed this too. TR 1 and 4 worked on the CAB3 worked fine but 2 and 3 stayed dead….however from the CAB2 all 4 channels worked fine (on a modern ZW, Not ZW-L). I haven’t had a chance to check the ZW-L. I am speaking to throttling, Not to on /off.

    This is my first command controller, how do I change the speed of the smoke unit, and where does it display the speed?

    • @seanstraindepot
      @seanstraindepot  Před měsícem

      That depends on the engine not the command system. On legacy engines there are 3 smoke levels. You just tap the smoke increase button 3 times (you'll hear an air sound each time). On TMCC engines they may be just on/off depending on the era they were made. Lionchief just on/off. Lionchief+2.0 (3 levels).

    • @Redman_O-Gauge_and_Tech_Stuff
      @Redman_O-Gauge_and_Tech_Stuff Před měsícem

      @@seanstraindepot and i would add, “SPEED” of smoke unit (puffing rate) is completely dependent on engine speed. For instance Starter sets (LionChief) have a cam piston setup on the drive wheels so one puff per rotation, Legacy and most TMCC use an electronic pick up for rail speed chuff sound and smoke puff speed. But like Sean said. There are different levels of smoke depending on your engine type/model from Lionel. That is the AMOUNT of smoke. Not speed though.
